We're arguably worse off than the Suns. Both teams overleveraged their futures for an average-at-best team, but the difference is that if the Suns ever stop deluding themselves about their situation, they can trade Booker for a significant haul of draft picks. We're the retirement home of the NBA full of guys in their mid-30s with diminishing value, so we don't have an asset like Booker. And when we do luck into a player (like Norm) whose value is the highest it'll ever be, we refuse to even sell high on them when the team's going nowhere.
They could get a good package back, but the picks they would be getting back wouldn’t make up for their deficit.
Their 2025, 2027, 2029, and 2031 1sts are gone, with complicated swaps for the others through 2030 (each swap involves 3 teams or more, with them getting the worst in each year.) They did get 3 likely worst 1sts for their original 2031 pick.
They also have Bradley Beal for 2 more years, along with his NTC. I’d rather have Kawhi than Beal, and our current team than their current team, which is in the 2nd apron. Their big mistake was trading for Beal, ours would have been re-signing PG.
TBH we are not that far off from each other. Our draft stockpile is pretty bare too, but their overall situation is worse IMO.
