Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas
For whatever it's worth, I don't read the deadline moves are prioritizing a lower tax bill. Not that they weren't happy to lower it if possible, but I think they wanted Kuzma, didn't think Khris had the juice to make it to June, and tried to open a 36-hour window where they could make more happen.
Off the top of my head, the only clear finance over competition move that I can remember them making (of any significance at least) was not bringing back PJ. Granted that one might have cost us another title.

Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas
i'm going to assume that the reason Marjon is still on our injury report is because the trade was not yet made official. i do not know why it is not yet official but i'm sure Nehm will chime in about 48 hours after we started asking about it.
it will be interesting to see what kind of role we have for KPJ. are we telling him to play within the offense and use his creation to attack closeouts when needed? Or do we give him a certain portion of the Khris Middleton, playmaker off the bench role for when one of Giannis and Dame are on the bench and the other needs an in game breather?

Yeah, every team KPJ has been on has been very eager to part ways with him. It's tough to feel good that it would magically change here.

And I'd argue that his defense hasn't been great. He has reverted back to letting his man get by him and contesting from behind, even on non ball screens.
Watch Green, he does his best to keep his guy in front of him and he's pretty good at it. i would start Green and encourage him to shoot more, even it means shooting twos. The Bucks can't keep starting multipke non scorers.
Maybe he does stay in front a bit more but has no jumping ability or driving ability. Ajax is a better rebounder and passer. He does try I give him credit for that but he is not a great option either Trent might be the best option since he’s got his confidence back. Maybe it’s the new kid porter got to see how he plays when he gets here.
Staying in front of guards to stop penetration is the Bucks biggest problem on defense. Ajax hasn't done that well, especially lately. His driving to the basket once or twice a game is a non factor.
I'd rather have Green fake his threes and step up for a two than rely on Ajax driving the ball. I don't think Ajax or Rollins are close to being playoff players. Green is a maybe.

This makes the move even less defensible.

kuzmas reputation was and always will be affected by how lebron maneuvered for years to dump him in deals. imagine being a young guy with a little talent being so openly shopped/trashed/shamed by your team captain.
i think it altered his perception permanently with the casuals. its similar but perhaps the worst of reeves and caruso and russell and shroder and almost anybody out there and how it worked out. if lebron doesnt win any given year his cast is shamed and devalued. even westbrook and davis reputations were harmed compared to how other places would be.
so to go from that situation to the tanking mess in washington plaing with the likes of poole and others where he continued to be shopped and go thru the motions.... reputation wise hes had a cursed career....im happy we may give him his first real shot of ever being in a situation where he can feel wanted on a winner with an important and supported role. i think theres a similarity to bobby portis here with how these next couple seasons go. hes obviously a talented guy. i really hope were getting the very best and experienced and grateful version of him yet
He also fed into the perception with the way he comported himself, that it seemed like he was a guy who cared just as much if not more about living the LA lifestyle as he did about basketball. That said, as someone who wasn't his biggest fan when he was with LA, it always seemed much more like immaturity that he would inevitably grow out of than anything else. And by all indications he seems to have done that.
so he got to LA as a youngster and acted like wilt and magic less the maturity.
i think thats forgiveable
Yeah, definitely. I never would've used an adjective stronger than annoying to describe him

Loser: Milwaukee Bucks
The Bucks are ostensibly in the hunt for the 2025 championship. While it makes sense to want to get younger at Middleton's roster spot, Kyle Kuzma is 29. By NBA standards, he's no spring chicken. He's also nowhere near as reliable a shooter and passer as Middleton.
Trading a franchise legend should almost certainly require a better return, especially when that legend is still helpful.
This season, the Bucks are plus-7.4 points per 100 possessions when Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard and Middleton were all on the floor. They're plus-4.0 when Giannis and Lillard play without Middleton.

I wonder what happens when we take these on/off stats against good teams (the ones we face in the playoffs). Is it still the same? Was it really that easy to just play Middleton in these roles?
We’ve seen Middleton light up bad teams and flop against good teams. To a lesser extent, Dame too.

Not defending the trades on basketball grounds - just pushing back on the the Yahoo assumption that the moves were primarily financial.

I said a bit more but he struggles with it to fouling because he doesn’t have the foot speed Ajax can at least recover to contest with his length I might give Trent a try again though. Who do you think Doc will go with?

Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas
I feel like Jimmybones knows something about Khris - like he’s about to have a season ending surgery.
If that’s the case, the move being what it was makes more sense.
My biggest gripe will probably be about being a coward and not jettisoning the ‘31 1st for an upgrade. I get you want to do it sensibly - Jimmy is a real upgrade, or BI would be a talent and youth play, but there’s a lot of guys you could use that on poorly, but it still all initially angered me.
I wouldn’t find it at all shocking if Giannis and Dame absolutely annihilate dudes once we get to the playoffs. We win the first series and then lose a close 2nd, and that team goes on to win it. At that point we’d probably all angrily ask why we didn’t get improvements to help us this year. Giannis is 30, Dame is 34. The time is now.
Maybe the first and the ‘32 swap help us reshape the roster in a meaningful way, but to really do that, Dame may have to go in the off-season, too. I hope we have a real plan.

Just getting away from what anyone thinks of the basketball fit, if there were a better deal out there, etc. The framing of "lowering the tax bill" bugs me because it makes it seem like we did it just to save the owners some money, but as I understand it getting under the second apron right now is a pretty big deal both for this coming off season and potentially down the road as well as it had the potential to make our first round pick worse.

Having baggage is a pre-requisite for Jimmy Haslem teams.

Exactly, these stats are all circumstantial. I let my 12 year old son play on my team in every pickup game I play when we go and he only lost like 4 games in the last 50 we played. His on-off must be amazing yet he does basically nothing in those games.
Any stat that makes you benefit from your superstar teammate going off for 30 points in a quarter while you're trotting around has to be taken as part of a bigger story and not the end all that some posters in here use it as. It's kind of like getting an A on a group project while the smart kid does 90% of the work. Standing on or off a floor doesn't actually mean you did something. We will never be watching a game and miss having KM on the floor.
