He's like if Rondo didn't have a brain. Doesn't love the game. If they extend him I'm probably hanging up the Bulls fandom.

Honestly that is the biggest thing that goes under the radar this year. Its not even a story because its under the guise of "Well OKC has the best record in the West" Its OK to trade for a niche player.
If you look at just this season...
We would actually be significantly worse team if we still had Caruso over Giddey. Food for thought.
It was a good trade for us, even if we don't keep Giddey. Caruso is an outstanding defender but overrated as a player overall by Bulls fans for sure. He's a rather poor offensive player.

I guess this is it for you then. Also he definitely loves the game. The only player only other Bull that hustles like him is Lonzo. Calling him low IQ is quite frankly silly.

Keeping and resigning an oft injured 30 year old didn't make sense for this team, being a few years away from contending at best. Getting a good look at Giddey who is 22, whether we keep him or not, was a good gamble.

Re: Josh Giddey Conundrum
I see Giddey is going to take Zach’s place as whipping boy even though is second highest ceiling player in this roster.
He is primed to have a good end to the season with Zach’s touches bring redistributed. 24 and 19 points respectively since that trade.

people keep giving me reasons to actually like the Lonzo extension

Resigning Giddy would be a bad move. He can't defend any position and doesn't generate enough offense to offset his lack of defense. The opposition will run their offense right at him, like they do with Vooch.

I think this is a dated view. Of late I've see real defensive improvement, perhaps it's just that he needed to become more familiar with his teammates and the system. Maybe this is more of a knock on Pat, but I don't see much difference in their defense. Positionally, he is able to stay in front of forwards and is long enough to effectively contest. He's also become more opportunistic in looking for steals.
Looking forward, I have a certain degree of optimism with a line-up that featured Giddey, Ball, Matas and Smith, and we somehow can parlay our cap space and other assets into a good #1 option (which is a big ask, I know).

I'm afraid this will be especially true in a playoff series when an opposing coach has the time and motivation to very deliberately game plan to run around him over and over until he gets benched.

Re: Josh Giddey Conundrum
Why is Giddey still in Chicago?
The Bulls have ZERO intention on resigning him as they still have White, Ayo and they just resigned Zo. This has to be one of the most mind-boggling trades (Caruso for Giddey) as we received ZERO compensation in this deal and now he will likely walk unless there is a S&T involved.

Thunder couldn't play him in the playoffs.

Giddey is 100% going to be signed by the Bulls.

I'd give Giddey 10m a year, max. If he wants over that, I'm walking.

I don't know why you feel the Bulls have zero intention of resigning Giddey. I would say they absolutely will resign Giddey. They shopped both White and Ayo at the deadline. Giddey (per Joe Cowley FWIW) is viewed as part of their core and a critical piece to their foundation.

Huh? How could you possibly arrive to that conclusion? He has started every game he's played.

Presumably there wasn’t much of a trade market for him. I also don’t think it’s very confusing from a roster balance standpoint. IMO, they’ll try to trade Coby eventually. Giddey and Ball can play well together and Ayo can hop right in and create a defensively versatile 1-3 lineup.
If Ball were up for a full-time role next year, it’s pretty easy to envision a Ayo - Ball - Giddey - Matas - Smith or replacement center lineup. It fits, it can develop, but it won’t be so great as to mess up your draft pick.

It seems pretty obvious the risk to worry about here is the Bulls overpaying Giddey, not them declining to resign him.

As of now, I wouldn't be surprised if Giddey is their number 2 priority to keep a hold of after Matas.
He is also going to get more than $20m, so people should brace themselves for that. This 10-15-18m talk people have been saying comes across like they haven't kept up with what salaries are like in today's NBA. We have hit the point where $20m buys you low usage 5th starter or a good bench player. Caruso just got $20m on a long term deal as an injury prone 30 year old bench guy and no one even blinked at the contract.

This is why we are where we are, this front office clearly have no idea how to manage this roster.
