The reason I am freaked about this trade is it was the last chance to rebuild quickly. Steph and Wiggins had positive value and would have fetched rebuild-friendly assets. Now Wiggins is gone, a pick is gone, Steph will lose a lot more value in the 2nd half of this season, and we have a 36 year old Butler locked up for 2 years. It's a huge step backwards and will delay the rebuild needlessly.

I agree but they've made it clear they aren't doing that and the time to do it was several years ago anyway.

True. I guess it's anybodys individual choice to decide how closely they want to follow that team in the next years (and in the last 2 for that matter).

dunleavy has no vision and no balls whatsoever. from this perspective he's been an awful GM so far.
sometimes you need to think outside the box and make some ballsy moves to give yourself a chance to compete.
in any case, you need to have a strategy in place (of course you also have to be able to execute it, but this comes after, you need to have a strategy in the first place), he clearly has none like everyone can see from the trades he made and not made.

They were never, ever trading Steph. A mixture of loyalty and business; Lacob would have been crucified by the fanbase and Steph really does sell. Warriors games are full, casuals still come to see Curry. Steph is still #1 in jersey sales. So I really don't think trading Steph is even a realistic discussion.

I would have preferred to move Draymond and sweeten the deal a bit so that we don't have 3 35+ guys on the roster, but here we are. We'll get some fun before the guys retire, and the path forward is set. In terms of assets, it could have been much worse -- we could be the Suns with some wild all-in trade. And from reports if we got Durant, the package was huge. And Wiggins, would he fetch a highly protected first? Maybe. We didn't bite on Vuc. 2.5 seasons and then rebuild time, enjoy your final moments with a Steph/Dray team. The cost is maybe 2 protected FRP and of course time -- it could have been *much* worse.

But yeah, 2 years ago was the time for a big trade to give Steph another offensive shot creator.

They're actually worse now than before. Terrible roster full of holes. No size, shooting, spacing. They should have kept Wiggins and everyone else if they planned on doing nothing else.

There is no real plan here. One desperate move which will make them worse. Another season gone. For nothing.

But this move actually shows vision...

1) Curry needed a 2nd option (Wiggins was too inconsistent)

2) 2 year deal that lines up with Steph and Draymond

This shows me they're trying to win. People are seriously underestimating Himmy Butler. There's only 5 players on the court at one time, 1 player can make a big difference.

At my job , i can oversee transactions till a 300.000 eur limit, i can sign them without any problem. Everything over this must be overseen by my CEO. It doesn't mean i'm not doing my job, it means that there is a limit. And if the boss says i don't sign this and this, i must comply. I hope you understand what i mean.
