We won 3 championships and had six appearances. There are a handful of teams who have been as successful as the Heat the last 25 years and a large credit goes to Riley.
I would like for him to seriously consider retirement after this season. It’s time to hand full reigns to Spo or Alonzo, or whoever they feel can continue the culture of the Heat.
Its not just the Jimmy Butler stuff, **** Jimmy Butler. It’s just we need a new fresh vision.
This, it’s time and it’s been time. He fumbled this build. Time after time he has overvalued our own players in negotiations for stars that wanted to come in here and win with us.
Mitchell, didn’t want to send Herro so negotiations never got serious.
KD, just offered Jimmy and JRich. At least toss an asset or in there for a respectable offer.
Dame, lowball offer trying to strong arm a player who only wanted Miami which ended up backfiring. FO Stan’s will say “but Cronin wouldn’t talk to us because he was mad at Dame” no that’s not true, Pat tried to strong arm him and lowball him something serious. Barry literally reiterated this yesterday, it’s not debatable. That’s a top 10 player who filled the biggest need of this team and we completely botched it.
2022 made the finals, made no moves to improve the team that season that could’ve helped in the finals. Don’t care if the team sucked that year when you get Jimmy Bam and Spo in the playoff everyone knows the deal.
Every single season we basically has massive issues at PG and at the 4 and we never did much or anything to address them. The best roster of the Jimmy era was year 1, that should’ve been arguably the worst. Insane that this is the case.
Love Pat, thankful for all he’s done but he’s been bad at his job for awhile now. It’s time for something new, we need someone who isn’t delusional and isn’t afraid to make a move. This likely would’ve led to a championship, instead it led to the 3rd best player in franchise history leaving.
One thing that i dont like, is just the way star players exit the franchise because of his attitude.
If you want to move forward, just have a sit down with the player and agent and tell them listen, thank you for your contributions to the team, but youre at this point of your career, and we need to look into the next era of Heat basketball.
Thats all, thats how you handle the situations with Shaq, Wade, Butler. In a different type of way you can add Lebron and Bosh on how poorly Riley handled those two situations.
Now mind you, i give the majority of the blame to Butler for the way things got ugly, before the season started, he was a player under contract with 2 years 100 million remaining, at the end of his career. The fact the warriors gave him 120 million more is their problem and that franchise fans will turn on them for that decision very soon. And butler behaved and acted like a BITCH on his way out. Like a female
But Riley is not without blame here either, there is a pattern here that cant be ignored. He is too into his “godfather” ways and im not saying we should let the players control the franchise, but we can communicate things better. In his role, you can still be a very strong leader but just be more relatable at the same time.
His age and his ways may not allow him to be. I think you can put Udonis or Alonzo in Pat Rileys role and continue the Heat culture while developing better relationships with the players
