Who are KD's suitors?

Post#1 » by Astaluego » Sat Feb 8, 2025 1:43 pm

It seems very likely that he will be moving this summer, who are his suitors?
KD is a legend and as we have seen with Butler and KD himself it would surely have to be a destination that he also likes.
Personally, I think that Houston will wait, watching as the SUNS sink...
Since the worse the scenario in Phoenix, the better it gets in Houston, either to increase the value of the Suns' selections they have or to take Booker when the situation is unsustainable...

According to reports, KD rejected the Grizzlies and the Warriors (should we cross them off the list?)...
What equipment do we have left??
The Wolves??Could they get there by sending Randle/McDaniels/Conley to sweeten the deal with the Pistons+Dillingham FRP..
Would that be tempting for the Suns??
Although the salary situation would complicate the deal and we would have to work with other teams...
Randle+ BULLS
McDaniels/P.Williams/Lonzo/FRP Pistons to SUNS
KD to WOLVES..??
just an idea....

The Mavs would surely be interested Gafford/PJ/Klay/Marshall/Hardy would be on the table, they will also have up to 3 FRPs this summer to work with...
There were also reports that there was mutual interest between KD and the Heat..Could I see something there..??
Any team that can let me?
What are your thoughts regarding this situation?

Think Phoenix should have pulled the trigger this year. Think Houston (and Miami) should have offered “more” (no idea what they offered) to get KD for the next two runs.

But Memphis? Memphis should not miss the chance to renegotiate and extend JJJ. Should not risk him hitting UFA now that Fox/Luka are out of that class.. So I don’t see them in on Durant.

Grizzlies entire offseason should be around giving JJJ 24 million dollars and locking him up as long/discounted as possible. Then spending the rest of the room to the tax on your bench. I’d dump Clarke and keep Aldama... Just don’t see a KD worth paying the price and having to miss out on locking up JJJ.

It’s still Miami though right?

Matching salary of expiring money “Robinson, Rozier, Anderson” with some third team, the GSW first, Jovic, JJJ.. no idea if it needs a future Miami first or not but Bam/KD/Wiggins/Herro is really good. And about 30 mil under the second apron to address the fifth starter and add to the bench of Ware/Highsmith..

The window with KD would be short, (although they could still regroup) but Ware/Bam/KD/Wiggins/Herro...if they can stay relatively healthy it would be one of the most elite in the division...the problem I see is that the players the Heat send are not very exciting to sell to Suns fans and the selections would be mediocre... I think the Mavs will bid and can make a solid offer if they put Lively

I think GSW’s mid first, JJJ and Jovic end up as a very competitive package for 37 year old KD? But Miami can add a future first as well if the market calls for it? Would definitely need to be a third team though.

You like KD to Dallas a lot more than me. To me, that died this season. Just too hard to match next season once AD is paid, while building a roster. But the offer shouldn’t include Lively. You need Lively’s cheap contract, with Christie and Martin. And need to get lucky with some other cheap guys playing big roles..

And need the Vegas guys to spend up to the second apron. Which I don’t believe they are willing to.

Wow would be crazy if they could pull that off.

Does seem like Houston is uniquely situated and also the Miami angle is always discussed whether real or not.

I'd say Minnesota. To pair with Ant and they have the salaries (potentially desperation) to make it work.

Yes, I think you're right and KD to Dallas is more my desire to take away (a little) the pain of Luka's departure... than something realistic... although I still think the Mavs are going to make some desperate move for a veteran this summer, especially if, as I think, they fall short this one... Maybe someone like Jrue?

I thought about them McDaniels/Randle getting there, but with the second apron rules, I'm not sure what that trade would be like... I guess including the WIZARDS might help in some way, reports came out that Beal would be willing to go back there...

Memphis is out. We wanted to add him to our existing big 3, but by trading Smart we no longer have the contracts to make it work. Happy we gave it the old college try but KD didn't want to be here.

KD likely needs to be swapped for a younger star or players with potential.

Picks aren't that valuable to Suns, they can't bottom out either.

How much does missing a playoff run reduce KD's value from the deadline offer of Nurkic and KD for Butler, Kuminga, Valanciunas and 2 1sts?

Is there a Jimmy Butler type of veteran out there this off-season? Who is this off-season's Kuminga?

Does Brooklyn make sense as a 3rd team?

Claxton, Cam and 2 Team X 1sts to Phoenix
Team X Assets/Filler to Brooklyn
KD to Team X

Something like that?

How sad would it be for Phoenix fans to trade Cam for KD…. I don’t think KD will have the value to return Claxton, Can and 2 firsts. Maybe the players but no picks?

I do think his value dropped a lot by losing out on this playoff run. Or it really should have.

The overpaid vet I like the most is LaVine. And the Kuminga is Murray... Zach is not really a great fit but young enough to pair with Butler.. and Sac should be interested in Durant… A two year run as an actual contender instead of a 5 year run trying to figure out the right pieces..

That’s my favorite idea even if it’s not too realistic.

Zion really might be a good idea if you use all of KD’s value to get it done. No idea of you need to add value to get it done or not (know their value ranges greatly)

Or the one we talked about here… If Philly is still trying to win next season, which I think they will be, it’s Paul George + ???, with Gordon dumped on a third team (or other small salary).. whatever clear you feel is right.

Can see lakers willing to make a bid with whatever draft capital they own this summer. Not sure they can make a competive offer even putting Austin on the table.
