You guys in the wrong thread? I'm pretty sure, when bad things happen, all roads lead to this guy!

It's hard to see, but he's the one holding the trophy.

Nothing to lose for Craig and the Cs.

I absolutely love this for us, exactly the kind of buyout candidate we should have been targeting. I can even see a path towards him playing some minor but relatively significant minutes for us depending on how things shake out.

3&D wing with solid size who knows how to be a roleplayer. Without a doubt he's a guy who can eat regular season minutes and that's what I think we really need from him. We've been sluggish for months now, I think Joe needs to lean heavier on the back-end of the bench guys to make sure the likes of Horford, Jrue, KP, Hauser and even JT/JB are completely fresh and ready to go for the playoffs. Craig fits perfectly into that because he can eat a ton of minutes at the wing and we can pivot other guys around to fill gaps as needed allowing us to rest anyone and everyone on a given night.

Hauser has been pretty poor at times, PP is going to have match-up challenges, Horford has started showing his age. I wouldn't expect Craig to eat into any of those rotation player's minutes come playoff time, but I think the positive thing is that he's a reasonable alternative if worse comes to worst and Hauser's back plays up on him or Pritchard can't stay on the court defensively or Horford just runs out of steam. He's not going to be a saviour but he's a really competent backstop which is the kind of guy a defending champion is super lucky to pick up on the cheap.

I'm hoping we see a lot of Torrey down the stretch and hopefully don't need him at all come playoff time, but really glad he'll be there just in case. Was sad to see Springer go, but Craig is a much better bench option so this is a huge win/win both in terms of the tax and talent on the court.

Does the move finally write the conclusion of Lonnie Walker not playing in Boston?

I still think, it was a nice change of pace bringing Lonnie in during the summer since the roster was unchanged from 23/24. He played well on bad teams, which isn't a bad thing if he gets put into a good system. He's not known to being a good defender, but with work he could have gotten better under this staff.

But IMO he had an injury that they didn't trust enough to give him a contract. And it wasn't just the Celtics. Everybody saw him in Boston, they see his play in Europe and nobody has opened their wallets for him. I say it all comes down to an injury that teams don't feel comfortable enough to give him a contract.

Marc Stein, Bobby Marks, and others believe some NBA team's gonna give him a shot in the next few days. I think his buyout clause deadline is on the 18th.

Possible, but IMO it won't be a multi year deal.

Agreed. Just potential bench boost for the postseason. Maybe he can prove himself worthy of a longer contract for the summer.

Can’t wait ‘til he signs somewhere and has a good game it’s going to be awesome.

Still think there is a chance it's Boston. All depends on how bad Brad Stevens thinks Jrue Holiday's injury is in my opinion and if he thinks the Celtics need more insurance. Only 30 games left until the playoffs. If the Celtics don't sign another 2/3 then that's probably great news on Jrue Holiday.

White/Jrue/JB/JT/KP
Pritch/Craig/Sam/Al/Luke
Baylor/Walsh/Xavier/Queta

looks great but it's 'wrong', because Craig has been shifting much more to '4' than '2'.
But our 3 guards plus Jaylen cover all of the guard minutes easily.
Craig is Sam insurance and also play small ability

Al insurance too, then. I’m now curious if we’ll see White, 3 Js and Craig lineup. Go straight from double bigs to that! It could definitely have its isolated uses.

at the very least, the Celtics won't "have to" play two bigs.

think I already posted in this thread that the dream outcome for Craig is he's our 2025 James Posey, which is high praise for the real ones!

Garbage time unit of Peterson-Scheierman-Craig-Tillman-Queta is gonna be fun.

Right Craig can fill in here and there but otoh they don’t have a great option at the 4 when Tatum is out for longer stretches (rest game or injury or whatever). So imo Craig is actually best suited to just fill that four slot as an innings eater.

Return to Boston Celtics
