this is a joke right? you do realize this team is currently in the 7th seed right? you think the addition of Ben Simmons makes them a contender? lol

Also, last time I checked he was already playing for a new contract this season, and that went so well that the team he was on decided it was better to pay him $40M to go away. But sure, playing in a city where he can party with celebrities will be all the motivation he needs to be an all star again... thats how that always works.

Clippers have been hovering around 5th and 6th place all season. They have lost two in a row last week and just dropped to 7th.

Kawhi just came back and has been on minutes restrictions.

They have the 2nd best defense rating in the NBA.

They could flame out or win big.

I’m not expecting them to win a championship but they can still be a 2nd round playoff team.

No, Ben Simmons does not make LA a title contender.

Yea for sure. If they were in the tier of Nuggets/Knicks of tier 2 title contenders.. yes a good bench addition can move the needle.. but this is more like maybe he helps them move from 7-8 seed to 6 seed type move.

Don’t doubt it, but that depends on how Lue uses him. He will start on the bench, but even if he gets back to 75% of his former self, he will require a starting spot. That means he is likely to play as a small ball center and move Zubac to the bench. That simple change will be drastic to the Clippers starting lineup, and also to their bench. Perimeter defense will jump leaps and bounds and when the Clippers are effective at defending the perimeter, they tend to win lots of games.

Clippers lineup went from (just two weeks ago):

C = Zubac / Bamba / Kai
PF = DJJ / Batum / Brown
SF = Kawhi / Mann / Coffey
SG = Norm / Dunn / Miller
PG = Harden / KPJ / Bones

To:

C = Simmons / Zubac / Eubanks
PF = DJJ / Batum / Beauchamp
SF = Kawhi / Coffey / Miller
SG = Bogdanovic / Norm / Christie
PG = Harden / Dunn / Mills

Not bad for a low key off-season. They got rid of a bunch of players that had confusing roles and replaced them with solid vets that have more established roles and can contribute in more versatile ways. Definitely a better team now.

YAY!

Just glad it's not Houston or Denver.

Denver was not eligible to sign him, under the current CBA.

If his 10 minutes a game needs to be load managed that's it for his career I think. :noway:

Clippers are top 5 in Drtg, but their offense has been poor.

Kawhi just returned and is ramping up. So far with Kawhi, their Ortg is 10 pts per 100 better with him, which is HUGE even if they've had a little losing streak.

So they have potential to be a really good defensive team and much better on offense, but Kawhi maintaining health is always a concern.

simmons' game these days superficially resembles post-30 years old draymond green, he's just not as useful a defensive player and worse in the half court as a playmaker imo.

i think he can still help, and the clippers kicking the tires is fine. but i don't expect much.

I think they will. Just makes the lineup more smooth. Ben in the starting lineup gives Lue his small ball roster with an additional passer. It speeds up the starting squad significantly and gives Harden a better target for alley-oops. Bogi is not as good as Norm, but he is bigger, had a better BBIQ and is a way better passer. Bogi can contribute without the ball in his hands, something Norm is not good at. Bogi also has a better offensive arsenal, though he is not as good at the long ball.

On the bench, Norm and Zubac can form a deadly offense with Dunn, Coffey and Batum providing solid defense. To be honest, I think there is a good chance that Lue will move Batum to the starting lineup and move DJJ to the bench - that provides more help defense and 3pt shooting in the starting lineup and makes the bench better on defense. Expect changes in the lineups soon.

“Scrub signs with Clippers”

Seriously, why does anyone still care about this guy? He’s a scrub.

He is a scrub that was once compared to LeBron James. He has an injury history, but many think it is mostly mental. If Ben turns out to be a scrub, then so be it - he is cheap. If he becomes an all-star caliber player again, he is with the right team.

The guy is only 28 years old. He has a strong and undamaged ACL and theoretically is still an athletic monster.

For now. The fact is that, when all are playing at their peaks, Simmons is better than Zubac and Bogi is better than Norm. If Ben and Bogi cannot get it together, they stay on the bench or get waived. If they do get it together, both will start eventually.

Where are you coming up with this from? Lol

Simmons has a zero percent change of starting over Zubac.

Norm and Bogi have played similar roles for most of their careers. Since 19-20, Norm has put up 18/3/2 on 48/42 (62% TS) and Bogi has put up 15/3/3 on 44/38 (57.2% TS).

Norm is the higher volume and more efficient scorer, anyway has his fitb in the starting lineup and next to Harden, it's not changing, chemistry is a thing too.

Bogi was brought in to be a bench scorer. He obviously won't get waived with another year and $16M left.

Simmons was brought in to be a versatile slot in option off the bench, mainly a small ball C. He doesn't have Zubac's size or rim protection. What stupid coach would replace the C anchoring his top 5 defense mid season

Come on, stop it.

Wow we all live in an era where bogi isnt a better long ball olayer than norm.. although i agree norm.as a better well rounded offensive player and I view bogi as a catch and shoot spot up player
