40M or less. 45M or more is an overpay for a guy who's injury prone and likely will continue to be. Would be willing to call the trade a loss in that case unless we sneak into top 4 in the lottery.

I'm very afraid, if the dude was willing to waive the trade kicker, I'm thinking there's a decent chance they already agreed to extension in principle and number's going to be high. High enough to make ~$2M trade kicker feel like nothing. I hope I'm wrong but Raptors FO got little to no leverage here I'm afraid.

His market value (say $38 million) plus the Raptors premium (say $3-4 million) plus the Masai standard overpay (another $3-4 million).

So $44 to 46 I would guess.

I think we do a base of $40 mill with incentives taking him to $45 mill. If he plays over 60 games he makes those incentives. It's a win win. His biggest concern has been durability and we protect us on the higher end of the contract of he doesn't meet those numbers.

Can we give him a 5 year deal?
$210/5 seems fair for everyone involved.

He’s worse than all but a few of those players, so… $52 million?

Comparing previous years contracts to new ones is not a great comparison.

% of the cap is how we need to do these comparisons.

No other team wanted him. That's why he was traded for 2 mediocre picks and filler

That’s irrelevant to him. He is a UFA this offseason, the raptors had to have negotiated with him before the trade to make sure he stays beyond this season. Not saying he’s getting his max, but it’s definitely going to be higher than whatever contract he would have settled on with the Hawks or any other American team.

It shouldn't be higher than $35 million based on his production. But it will be, unfortunately.

It's probably going to be 45M. I would push for 4 years and the last year being a team option. Our 2025 lottery pick's extension would be kicking in afterwards and this would keep us safer relative to the tax aprons.

srhcan wrote:Currently there are 42 NBA players whose AAV is at least $40M. So I believe Ingram will never sign below it.

Barnes AAV for new contract is almost $45M. So I am hoping Raptors will not pay more than that for Ingram. But its possible Raptors have to pay more than that to keep Ingram.

What should be Average Annual Value (AAV) of Ingram's new contract?

That was an incredibly well constructed poll.
Putting players names beside the ranges gave excellent context.
Thank you for the effort!

The better question is, what 3+1 deal AAV price tag, would you let BI walk ? (He proceeds to sign a lower deal with an American squad)

Raptors are allergic to paying the tax. It will completely depend on where they pick. My guess is that they will give him a starting value such that we factor in the 2025 first round pick, second round pick and one minimum contract. And then give him a 5 year deal with 8% raises on top of that. With a player option in his 5th year.

So if that comes down to $35M starting value then the breakdown per year would be:

$35M
$37.8M
$40.6M
$43.4M
$46.2M (player option)

Or $203M/5 or an AAV of $40.6M. Feels reasonable to me.

If we get Flagg, then he would make $13,825,920.

Our cap without Flagg and 10 players would be:
$139,155,433

$13,825,920 (Flagg)
$2,221,677 (2RP)
$1,400,156 (min)
===============
Total: $156,603,186 (13 players, no BI)

Tax Line: $187,895,000

The difference is $31,291,814. I think that's too small, but a 5 year AAV with 8% raises would be a paltry $36.3M AAV.

My guess is if we get Flagg, one of RJ or IQ get moved in the summer to ensure BI gets what he wants and we duck the tax.

I have a scientifically proven formula for figuring these contracts out:

I just take whatever I think is fair and add 10-15%.

I think Ingram at a 25% max is fair (same deal he got last time). That starts at $38.6m. That means he probably starts at around $42m, which is an overpay.

If Ingram gets $40m+ to start we’re going to have zero cap space and it means someone is getting traded before next deadline (Agbaji? Possibly Barrertt depending on how high our pick is). Zero chance we pay the tax for what might be a play-in team next year.

According to the recent Sportsnet write up, if we pick 5th we only have about 40 million to spend before we’re over the apron

the team would have until the draft 2026 to get under the tax if they must. no need to worry about any of it now.
