Re: Mavericks ( Patrick Dumont) owner craps on Lukas work ethic
Have to say, didn't think anything can become more annoying than the Bronny James drama beginning of the season, but the Luka trade has started new dimensions on conspiracy theories. Apparently it's just not possible to have any kind of conversation without some conspiracies in all directions in E-V-E-R-Y S-I-N-G-L-E T-H-R-E-A-D. Political motivation, Lebron the mastermind, secrets about Luka, somehow that's all more realistic than it being a simple Basketball decision.
Can't speak for the other fans, but it's at the moment the main thing that pushes me more and more away from following the NBA and barely watching any Basketball related media content. Think I'll go back to watching some games, highlights and results now and then. Think a lot of conspiracy Basketball fans would have enjoy professional Wrestling a lot more.

It's like they want to incinerate all public goodwill as fast as possible.
I can understand defending Nico, but using Shaq as an example of work ethic?
Goodbye credibility.
Luka's skill level is one of the highest in the league. That doesn't happen by itself.
Oh well. Best of luck to them.

This gives merit to a very specific theory that only a few Mavs fans pointed out. The new owners, who are known Trump supporters and donors, as well as Nico Harrison, who was involved with US basketball for his whole carreer, just couldn't stand to have a European guy as the face of the franchise. Especially not in Texas. ( As opposed to Mark Cuban who never had a problem with that.)
(+ now that Luka is gone Nico can claim that he built this team from scratch. Unless I am wrong Dwight Powell is the only remaining Mav that was not brought in by Nico.)
Btw. There is very interesting analysis of the whole statement on Mavs reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Mavericks/comments/1ilesur/mavericks_governor_patrick_dumonts_first_public/
Europe has also been a lot more critical of Israel in committing genocide against Palestinians than USA. And the new Mavs owners are hard-core Zionisits. So it makes sense that they wouldn't want a European to be the face of franchise.
Totally makes sense, especially with known Zionist Kyrie Irving on the roster.

Re: Mavericks ( Patrick Dumont) owner craps on Lukas work ethic
This isn't a good look on the FO/ownership at all.
Yeah, I don't know what in the world they thought they were doing there. Shaq lifted plenty, but it wasn't really until he left LA for that first year in Miami that he started putting in effort to lose weight, and then in Phoenix when he got more into mobility and all that. He also put caps on what he would try to do in order to deal with his FT issue due to ego. Getting his surgery "on company time" and all that. He was well known for issues pertaining to his work ethic, at least in certain regards.
Dallas FO/ownership just looks stupid and childish right now, petulantly trying to justify a poor decision.

Do these guys realize that just STFU is an option?
Why are they bashing Luka every chance they get?
Meanwhile he hasn’t said a word…
Even IF you thought the trade was defensible, which is a huge stretch, there’s no defending this constant bashing of Luka after he’s left.
Just Bush League and doesn’t help your franchise at all. Nothing they’re saying is going to change any minds, it just makes them look like petty aholes.
Someone take their shovel away please, for Mavs fans sake.

Also we don’t know what happened behind the scenes. I’m glad he’s a Laker, though I miss AD. Before the trade I’ve seen people here mention Lukas weight and what not, so maybe despite all his talent the owners didn’t want to pay him $350 million if he couldn’t stick to disciplined conditioning.
Little to do with culture and
Little to do with European
Everything to do with paying $70m/per.
Cheap Dallas owners
Doesn't the NBA have a salary floor? Why is salary an issue?

Shaq was fat every year by his own admission, Bird was drinking beer and smoking cigarettes at half time, Jordan was hungover during playoff games, Kobe quit during a playoff game.
This guy knows nothing.

Luka's skill level is one of the highest in the league. That doesn't happen by itself.

It can happen for sure. Lots of super talented guys have preternatural ability to read or execute in the moment, and they'll work to some extent to master things but aren't necessarily 'working hard' in the traditinoal sense. Luka just gets spacing and timing and how to manipulate it with his brain and body, he honed it when younger and it translated beautifully to the NBA. He doesn't need to put in a zillion reps to keep up with that. It makes sense to me he might be kinda lazy about working out day to day or be un-disciplined relative to his peers about off-season stuff. Still doesn't mean he's not doing enough to keep up most of his game, but it could be that he's hurting himself and the team by not doing some things.
That's what's so dumb about this situation: if the Mavs have a point, it's that Luka had some flaws that he wasn't going to fix for whatever reason, and that those were going to limit his ceiling and keep him from being a real centerpiece. If they really deeply believe that, they should just keep cool and say the usual 'we loved Luka, helluva player and unbelievable talent and we wish him the best,' and let history tell the tale. Doing what they're doing now makes it seem like they don't get how good Luka already was and don't believe they were actually right to think he wasn't going to reach a level most assume he would (most probably think he was already there).

It was always from the owners. Money but also looks like they straight up didn't want him and kept the trade hush to avoid fan uproar till after the deal was done. It's actually pretty cruel to the fans.

Re: Mavericks ( Patrick Dumont) owner craps on Lukas work ethic
Drygon wrote:The full reasoning on why Luka Doncic got traded from the Mavs according to DumontDumont made it clear to The News that he, too, is a big believer in culture, and in specific traits the Mavericks want in players.
“In my mind the way teams win is by focus, by having the right character, by having the right culture, and having the right dedication to work as hard as possible to create a championship-winning outcome,” Dumont said. “And if you’re not doing that, you’re going to lose.”
Dumont’s tone again turned forceful.
“If you look at the greats in the league, the people you and I grew up with — [Michael] Jordan, [Larry] Bird, Kobe [Bryant], Shaq [O’Neal] — they worked really hard, every day, with a singular focus to win,” he said. “And if you don’t have that, it doesn’t work. And if you don’t have that, you shouldn’t be part of the Dallas Mavericks.
“That’s who we want. I’m unwavering on this. The entire organization knows this. This is how I operate outside of basketball. This is the only way to be competitive and win. If you want to take a vacation, don’t do it with us.”
It was pointed out to Dumont that when people read those comments, the assumption will be he is inferring that Doncic did not fit those winning culture qualities.
“Look, I think there’s a lot of things that come into play when you decide the roster of the team,” Dumont said. “And culture is very important. That’s what we’re focused on.”
Typical out of touch, hand me down money, scumbag billionaire flapping his jaws.

I don't see why fan and media noise should keep you from an activity you enjoy, just ignore what people are saying if it detracts from the enjoyment. It's ok to unplug from the narratives that people spin, in fact we all could probably do more of that. The spin machine amplifies outrageous takes in order to drive engagement, it doesn't represent reality very well.

The league also needs to look at luxury tax allowances or assurances for new owners because it's now way too common for new owners to get in and immediately start dismantling contenders. I always hated how the Rockets roster got diluted after taking the KD Warriors to 7 games.

When you play entire playoffs and finals like this, at least you deserve thank you and good luck with the new team. But no, Dumont had to be "smarter" lol.
