Joel Embiid Expects To Undergo Another Knee Surgery In Offseason

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Feb 9, 2025 8:35 pm

Joel Embiid believes he will need to undergo surgery on his left knee again in the offseason. Embiid is dealing with ongoing swelling in his knee, which is limited his availability on an continual basis.

Embiid is hopeful that another surgery and a lengthy recovery period will help resolve the issue. Embiid suffered a meniscus injury in the knee last February, which required surgery. Embiid returned in time for the playoffs and then went on to play in the Olympics in the summer.

Embiid is averaging 24.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists in 29.9 minutes over 15 games going into Sunday's contest against the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Sixers signed Embiid to a three-year, $193 million extension before the start of the 24-25 season. Embiid was on the Sixers' books for five years and just under $300 million heading into the 24-25 season. Embiid holds a player option in 28-29 at $69.1 million.

Definitely seems like he’s never going to get to the promised land. Not as a super max guy.

Yeah stupidity. Supposedly doctors say he doesn't need surgery but like Kawhi, he will most likely

Yeah, it gets more stupid when you look at their pick situation. They currently have the 7th worst record and their pick is top-6 protected. They could hope to jump up or they could sit Embiid until training camp, put PG on a major minutes restriction and hope to fall in the standings.

Either way, Embiid should get that surgery yesterday and plan to be ready for training camp. This season is toast!

Time to tank and miraculously get a top 2 pick.

They should have traded Paul George for peanuts when the Warriors called last week. They are only 2 losses behind being 6th worst right now.

Exactly why not just tell him to get surgery right away and be ready for next season that playoffs well out of reach what’s he playing for

I don't expect the Nets or Raptors to win more than the Sixers, so they may be stuck around 7 hoping for lottery luck to jump up into the top 4. If they don't jump up, then OKC is likely getting a top 10 pick to add to their stacked lineup.

Sixers are going to make the play in unfortunately. That's a certainty. Why? Because they're the only team trying to that's not top 8 right now. Plus they have too much talent

Philly planning to tank hard for one of the three superstar kids? Makes sense. Pain now. Might as well try to trade PG for scraps now.

Put this man out to pasture already.

They are better off keeping until a real offer comes along. He isn't playing well enough to ruin their tank, but he also isn't their biggest problem. I have been pointing out since before the season began that the roster is flawed. PG is their biggest player that isn't a center. PG is a SM. He can guard up, but not all night every night. This roster was destined to fail. Even if healthy, they would have been a 4-6 seed. Now everyone is blaming him the way they blamed Tobias, when he was their undersized PF. They need to make major changes to the roster if they want to find success, even if everyone is healthy.

You've seen the depth chart in PHI, right? That is a ragtag bunch of sorry old vets and scrubs... and Maxey! TOR was a buyer at the deadline and Ingram has to prove it for his next contract. BRK has some guys that can have some big games as well. PHI is only two games up, and up until today they have been trying to win. (That is a sad thought!)

That is fair, but I personally just think you get out of that contract while you still can. When you are looking at the back half of that deal I don't think many teams love taking that on. I don't think the offers are going to improve the older he gets. And there is a chance you can't move him at all or need to attach assets in order to do so.

Ingram didn't really impact the Pelicans in winning when he played 18 games with them this season. They still have a worse record than Toronto. The Raptors, Nets, Sixers all have soft schedules remaining, but I expect Toronto and Brooklyn to pull guys in and out of the lineup to lose. Philly, as long as Embiid is still playing, will try to win no matter how beat up their lineup is.

I don't think we can judge anyone in NOP this season. They are starting a rookie center and they are built around a superstar that is never available. Since Zion was drafted, Ingram has been an afterthought in the dystopian novel that is the New Orleans Pelicans. It's Mad Max over there! But don't get it twisted, BI can ball.

If Ingram is healthy and TOR coaches him like they want to hang onto him, he'll make them better. (Not great, just better.) They traded for him; they have to give him a reason to stay.
