Looks like a post June release for Deebo might be an option if they cant trade Deebo. The restructure this past offseason made it harder to trade him. This article spells it all out.

Some of the cap implications of a trade have been disputed. Not sure it changes the decision.

I had thought we wouldn't be able to move the contract, but more so we're screwed. If we trade him, it's a $30 million dead money hit. If we keep him past March something, we owe him $15 million more. We could make him a post June 1st cut, but then we eat the $15 million and don't get anything for him.

I really hated that restructure when we did it, and I've got to say I am now feeling pretty vindicated. Hopefully they can figure something out.

I know we really need to invest in OL but the Eagles invested in their D to fix their weaknesses (DB) and they are up 17 to 0 in the SB

And AJ Brown just scores a TD in the Super Bowl. IIRC, the 49ers drafted Deebo instead of Brown?

Yes Deebo drafted #36 and Brown drafted #51.

Deebo has been a very good player for the 49ers but he never became a threat downfield. More like catch the ball short and get big RAC. He's made some big memorable plays.

But it's clear that Brown was always going to have a more sustainable career, given his size and speed.

Now we're about to let this crew run the draft again. :noway:

Feels so cathartic watching KC lose after they took 2 of these from us.

This game is showing that offensive lines matter.

Agreed, we should save our cap space so that we can upgrade ours.

And the other side of that coin is that defensive lines matter. If you don't give the QB time to throw, even the #1 QB looks mortal. Guess the comprehensive answer is that the trenches matter.

This game is being won by the Eagles defense.

Hurts has had a good game but has only thrown for 150 yards. It's not even as good a game as the SB he lost a couple of years ago.

Eagles D shut down the Chiefs offense, got a couple of big interceptions. Fangio is keeping everything in front and having his players tackle, not giving up explosive plays, eyes on the ball.

Former 49ers DC turned that defense around. You know the coaching staff that York fired or let walk away?

Wait. They're calling holding against the Chiefs' OL? I don't even know how to react to that.

This almost makes up for the 2 times we lost to them. Almost.

We won't because philosophically Shanahan doesn't believe in investing huge in the offensive line. Outside of Williams we're paying the offensive line peanuts. I think the 4 other starters on the offensive line account for about 5% of the cap.

The only thing I can see them doing is adding a C in free agency since Shanahan prefers an experienced hand at that position but outside of that they'll probably just add journeymen and draft guys.

Wonder what would have happened if he was the HC instead of Jim

He wasn't that good a HC at Denver.

But obviously going to be in high demand as DC.

Eagles turned their defense around in one draft with great picks for their defense and some key FA signings All in one offseason.

Wish I could say that I have faith that the 49ers will get a couple of impact players in the draft, to start from day 1.

Hopefully he can be used in a package in a trade for a star player.

Regardless I think you have to take the L and get him off the roster one way or the other because I think his presence is more of a downside than an upside at this point.

Deebo is very much a one trick pony with a very good trick in that he's extremely dangerous with the ball in his hands with room to run. But he can't get himself open, he doesn't really use his size to overpower coverage to catch the ball, not to mention his effort and attitude has been an issue but will be a bigger one if he's still on the roster.

Defenses focused heavily on shutting down the Shanahan staple of scheming guys open down the middle of the field with room to run so the offense needs to shift into more speed and more traditional WRs that can beat coverage and get open on their own. Kittle and Jennings are all we need for the big body types and hopefully Aiyuk and Pearsall can be those regular WR type and we just need a couple of legit speedsters.

So this announcement about Deebo seeking a deal, nothing will come of this.

If there is a deal to be made, the team would have made it.

But why would any team give assets for Deebo? They know he's likely to be a cap casualty. No other team is going to take on his contract when they can just wait for him to be released and then offer him a much smaller contract.

Similar situation as Cooper Kupp. No team is going to want to pay what his contract calls for nor give the Rams much to acquire him. They can just wait it out for the team to release him and negotiate an incentives-laden contract at best.
