We got absolutely screwed

If we had a chance to redo the deadline with Williams being out of the picture, then I bet Kleber+2nd+potential swap would have been moved for at least someone like Landale, Boucher, Drummond

Or something like Wood+Cam+2nd+BKN choice of 2029/2030 swap for Sharpe
Or Knecht for Sharpe and 1-2 2nds

The Lakers willingly and knowingly voided the deal. They took a risk, and when they got more information that changed their opinion, they fully made their own decision. How’d they get screwed?

If they had made the trade 24 or 48 hours earlier, they would’ve had all the opportunities in the world to re negotiate the deal, or re enter the trade market.

No one got screwed. It just happens.

Well because Charlotte initiated it with only a few days left on deadline, it feels like they tried to put Lakers in a tough situation of acquiring him, going through medicals and then accepting him because they have no better options for center. Thankfully Lakers didn't do that but it does look suspect. Not saying Charlotte did intend this either but it smells off.

Sure. Charlotte tricked you. Or, this trade just occurred as the vast majority of all trades this season occurred….at the deadline.

Teams just love to wait to deadlines and feel like they negotiate hardest as “they hold all the leverage” and “the other team is running out of time”. As they say, deadlines spur actions.

Come on. If the Lakers are a competent organization then they at least had brought this up prior to the last days of the trade deadline. Considering how many games Williams has missed vs Duren-Detroit and Kessler-Utah, I’m guessing the Lakers were more focused on getting the bigs that haven’t missed so many games.

And considering the Lakers post-Davis depth chart at center, the Lakers really needed to add two centers at the deadline.

If you’re running the Lakers and you got duped by the Charlotte Hornets, you should just immediately resign.

The problems identified aren't do with previous injuries he rehabbed back from is my understanding.

Lakers just needed one center.

Again, Brooklyn didn’t identify the cancer with Caris Levert. Caleb Martin’s injury wasn’t noticed by Philly. Trade physicals are notoriously more stringent and tend to find out new things for exactly this type of reason.

I don't disagree. I don't think there is anyway of knowing that Hornets were being underhanded. Just seems like that because of circumstance. Not just the timing but because Hornets contacted Lakers.

Jovan Buha say that? Trades occur after a really long time of back and forth discussion. Maybe Charlotte finally relented and called to initiate it, but I’m sure they had had exploratory talks for awhile.

Either way, no, no “underhanded”. Every so often a trade falls through. LA traded for a guy that had a history of injuries and risks. I’m sure this possibility didn’t shock them.

What probably was the bigger thing that pushed Charlotte to relent was Mark Williams poor effort in a game right before the deadline.
