Re: NCAAW Hoops talk!
UConn-Tennessee tonight is a big one.
UConn probably has to have this to keep any hope of a 1 seed alive.
For an amazing rivalry that went back and forth for years, UT hasn't beaten UConn since Candace in 2007. This feels like their best shot in a long time.
If Caldwell does it in her first try, they may as well start building a statue in Knoxville.

Re: NCAAW Hoops talk!
very big win for iowa
possible let down off the huge usc win
road game against a good minn team
travel trouble getting there, little tired, routine thrown off
up double digits let it get away but then took control again. seeing the team's growth, month ago we'd have lost this

Re: NCAAW Hoops talk!
It seemed impossible a month ago, but we have a really competitive Freshman of the Year race right now.
Sarah Strong is amazing, and seemed to be running away with it. But Vandy's Mikayla Blakes has absolutely demanded to be in the conversation.
Blakes is even in the SEC POY conversation as a freshman.
Famously hit the game winner against Tennessee the day after her brother hit the game winner in Chapel Hill.
A week later dropped 33 in a win against #19 Alabama.
Then broke all kinds of records dropping 53 on Florida a few days later (pretty sure a freshman in a major conference has never done it).
Texas was too much for them last night, but Mikayla is looking like the real deal. If Vandy can keep her and Khamil Pierre over the next couple of years, they are going to be really good.

Down goes South Carolina.
At some point, they need to actually play their best players in the starting 5 right?

It was a hell of a game. Texas was playing some great defense, and a great game from Booker.
The most Texas win of all. They knock off the SC without making a single 3 pointer. I would say they "only" attempted 4, but that's a healthy amount for Texas.
Tennessee-LSU was great too. UT is such a fascinating team. 6 losses, but I think they are probably still one of the 10 best teams in the country.

Re: NCAAW Hoops talk!
Also a nice win by Michigan in Lansing. Led by the 3 freshmen of course.
That program is going to be something else if they stay together and bring in a couple of bigs.
I don't envy the tournament committee when it comes time to parse through 5-12 of the BIg Ten (maybe 4-12 depending on the health of Sellers and how Maryland does down the stretch without Bri McDaniels).
I assume they are all going to make it (and Washington could get in the mix too), but it's possible most of them have a nearly identical resume.

I've been keeping a lid on it, since I haven't had a chance to watch too many of their games this year, but the Irish look good...

Re: NCAAW Hoops talk!
iowa wins again! on the road, avenging their bad overtime loss to nebraska earlier
lucy olsen and sydney affolter are starting to ramp up their games, which is a great time for it.
iowa has moved off the bubble, up to around a 9 seed in the latest bracketologies

They do look good indeed, and I think they are the most fun team to watch. When Hannah and Olivia get rolling, it's so much fun.

Re: NCAAW Hoops talk!
solid win over rutgers, defense continues to be fantastic
which is great because lucy is almost all of our offense for large stretches

Re: NCAAW Hoops talk!
hawkeyes lost. rough first half, good second half but they just couldn't close the gap - until they caught first the last minute and stormed back to force overtime. but they ran out of gas and couldn't close the deal
the opportunity was there, nothing much happened the first couple of minutes of ot but then the buckeyes seemed to see that iowa wasn't going to take it so they decided to and put us away
great effort against a top ten team on the road

I remember after last season the debate as to whether South Carolina or Connecticut would run away with the title. That doesn't seem to be panning out.

Ha! My daughter is a Huskies fan, and she's gone into shock watching my Irish move ahead of them in the rankings. But she watched a UConn game and an Irish game last week and had to admit she saw why.
(She still disagrees, but she could at least understand it. That girl was seriously sleeping on Hidalgo and Citron...lol)

My grandmother was a huge Uconn women's fan
Think that was the first basketball game I ever went to, they were playing at the Civic center in Hartford. I can't remember anything at all about the game, it must have been back when Taurasi was playing, all I can remember is looking down at the court and having a mild panic attack about how high up I was lol

Re: NCAAW Hoops talk!
missed the iowa-ucla game but watched a replay. hawkeyes fought hard, gave the bruins a run for their money and pushed them. but couldn't close the deal. didn't shoot very well and didn't execute very well for key stretches

Re: NCAAW Hoops talk!
Massive day yesterday in the ACC. The race for #2 has been a fun one, but State all but locked it up yesterday. None of the scenarios had them knocking off ND. Last time they beat a #1 team was Wayland Baptist in 1978.
That was one of the best games I've ever seen in my life. I could watch Hidalgo and Zoe Brooks battle it out 8 days a week. They've been doing it since 6th grade, and it shows. Brooks even hit a game-winner in the state championship game against Hidalgo.
Rivers and CItron was also a fun match-up. Watching the game, I was thinking it would be cool if the Sky drafted them both, but that play blew up shortly after the game.
Also loved to see Reynolds Coliseum rocking. They came correct. Stark contrast to the pathetic Duke crowd on Thursday.
My Heels had a fantastic comeback on the road against Louisville, who have turned into a dangerous team as they always do with Jeff Walz. BTW, 4 current coaches have made it to 4 Final Fours. Geno, Dawn, Mulkey, and Walz.
The Heels comeback was largely fueled by 17 year old freshman Lanie Grant. Really impressed with that kid this year. We need Ustby back soon, but it's given Grant a chance to shine.
Maybe we're not as good as the SEC and BIg Ten, but the ACC Tournament is going to be a lot of fun.

Re: NCAAW Hoops talk!
hawkeyes got a solid road win against michigan
defense is always good so whenever every is making shots (like last night or washington) iowa is incredibly tough to beat
