I think it will depend on the luck you have in the Draft, if you get a potential star (Flagg/Harper), you keep Lauri,...if you fall and choose a rawer prospect, I would change him for the best possible prospect (Asuar??).. It also makes no sense for him to spend his best moment, on a lottery team..

DA kinda messed up by paying him that much. Especially considering he got a renogation. They gave him a 24M raise and he still got a 4/195M deal instead of a possible 4/199M deal if he bailed this offseason.

I have no desire to trade Lauri. Especially for what some people are suggesting the Jazz accept. The Jazz tanked this year and will do it one more year, and then it’s time to play the best players and stop developing. We’ll see if the lottery gods help us or not the next two years. If after the next two drafts the Jazz get no good draft prospects the Jazz should look to trade Lauri. We’re a long ways away from that.

Question: What Lauri can net in 2025 draft by itself (no other players involved, except for salary match)? top 5 pick?
I can see Charlotte, Pelicans, Toronto or Philadelphia offering their top pick for him. Too much?

I don't see his value as anything close to a top-5 pick in this draft tbh.

Like the 17th pick in the draft and an expiring.

His season has just been really bad for his contract. He's played like a $10-15m player on a $40m+ per year contract.

No one will take the risk on his back this offseason. He's not getting moved.

The downside of brazenly tanking with good vets in-house. They can lose significant value - either from exaggerating injuries or playing ineffectively by design.

My read of the situation is that the Jazz are looking to keep Lauri.

They tried hard to either cash him in or extend him. Either option worked for the Jazz. They got the extention they wanted.

I believe they would like to have some veteran talent to play alongside the kids. Lauri is that.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Keep/extend with the local and younger player JCollins? Sure, it's not a bad idea to sell Lauri, but if a fair offer comes along, in my opinion, it's better to trade him and not have to keep doing tricks, so he doesn't impact the game. A young player with potential/FRP/+ a good veteran who's expiring, is that fair? Ivey/Harris/Fontecchio+FRP
I also think this move (or something similar) helps you pay Kessler...without inflating the payroll on a deep lottery team.
