Knicks are pretenders until Mitch hopefully comes back and stays healthy than maybe we have a chance if not we are 2nd round exits.
I'm so disappointed in Bridges we need to trade him for Gianis or Durant to offset the blow of trading 5 1st round picks for him seriously.

Sure but it’s just robbing Peter to pay Paul. If it leads to a championship it’s fine. If not the bill will come due when the nets are getting all our picks a few years from now.
But it didn't. Brunson was here for 2 years. Rolling Brunson into the Bridges trade is absurd. Roll in signing Rick Brunson as an assistant at that point.
I think he’s saying the only reason Jalen gave us a discount on his extension was because we signed his friend. But we overpaid for mikal so it still cost us in another way. So it was a cash discount which instead cost us in picks.

And Brunson would've waited for the super max, handicapping us from getting someone like Bridges in the future (whose contract also slides in perfectly under the 2nd apron)

Re: PG: why are you still watching the Celtics pound the Knicks at MSG?
We have an all-star PG/C duo. Wingstop works when both guys are healthy. Hart is a glue guy but, his offense leaves a lot to be desired in the half court set. Players sag off of him. When he's out there with Precious it's even worse. Players don't have to respect the perimeter for either of those players. They almost never look to shoot or score at all. Not having any type of system makes it easy to guard us unless JB/KAT/Mikal are raining threes. With OG, at least you have to respect his three point shooting. Especially from the corners. Mitch/Hart will present the same issues.
Thibs lack of creativity on offense can be a problem. His defense clearly doesn't work in today's NBA and, I'm not buying that Mitch is the answer to all of our woes either. There's no wiggle room with his approach. When shots aren't falling we do nothing to generate easy looks. If the opponent is hot from deep we get cooked. Same old song and dance in every loss. We are predictable on both ends. If he doesn't expand the bench we usually run out of gas and lose as well. Teams were geared up for that and openly stating as much.
All this talk about what trade hurt the worst is meaningless. We have a championship caliber starting 5. It's the depth and the coaching that need to be addressed IMO. We will be getting out picks available every year as long as we play the apron game properly. So we will be able to make deals as the team evolves the next few years. Being a fan the last two decades alone should make people happy to be where we are right now. Look around the league. We are a top 5 team right now. We just need to get over the hump like every other team that wins a title. It doesn't happen in one year. We aren't even a year into this core. We can root for a good team and hope they fix the weak links. Acting like this will never work is silly.

Giannis is 2 years away and a knee injury from being completely cooked. He's had 12 years to learn how to shoot a basketball. 18% from 3 is career worst, 57% from the line is career worst.
No chance he just gets better by getting older and less explosive, while all his shooting stats make RJ look like **** Ray Allen.
This is like complaining about Shaq not having a jumper
I’ll take a guy who won a championship and a finals mvp over KAT and Mikal all day. Every GM would.

The Celtics loss really killed the vibes in here, huh. No one even wants to create the new game thread. Sad.

Glad to see your reemergence. My instincts about the massive losing streak the Knicks are about to embark on is correct*

Think about this, with no OG and no Mitch having deuce as the 6th man, deuce shot 1-8 from the field, c’s missing KP and jrue slide Kornet into the 5 spot he dominated on defense, and there 6th man Pritchard shoots 9-14 for 27 points. Sure it’s easy to blame the coach, however the knicks struggles and c’s domination has much more to do with current talent levels than anything to do with coaching. That’s also forgetting to mention KAT having by far his worst game as a knick.
Yeah I dont get it, Tatum is driving through 4 Knicks defenders straight to the rim and hitting step back threes all over the court but Thibs needs to figure out how to run elaborate plays for KAT through several screens like he's Steph Curry. There's a clear difference in the talent levels with both teams.

They had to have not too many injuries and then also play at the top of their game, no room for error, nearly every game.
Now, they've raised the talent level enough where they can win on talent even when they don't bring their A game. Against bad and middling teams. It's an actual improvement.
However, they have zero margin for error against good teams. No one out, no one hobbling, 100% execution. Then they can beat playoff teams, but not the top 3 playoff teams.
That's what using all the assets got the Knicks to.
They are good.
They aren't really competitive.
In 5 years they will suck and won't have picks so it'll be the Isiah years all over again, truly.
So, having an ok basketball team for 7 years or so is nice. Sort of.
*The above ignores the fact that 2/5ths of their thin team is incredibly injury prone. So the Knicks will in fact suck badly for significant stretches of the next 5 years.
Actually, who cares.
In 5 years, it will be 2030. We would have all our picks other than 2031. And that’s assuming they couldn’t add more if they blew it up. So even then I don’t see how it would be what you’re saying. We will be a 50 win team for the next 5 years. Go cry into a pillow

I realized the other day what bugged me about this team. I'm spoiled. When we get close to being a contender I want more than I'm ever going to get. I'm spoiled by the great Knicks championship squads and the multiple other great teams of the 70s and 80s. There is not a single team today that would not get smoked by those teams. I was holding us up to an unattainable standard, because that's what happens when you try to compare the garbage the NBA has become to its glory years when you had truly great teams.
I was used to seeing teams playing solid basketball every game, not sometimes. Maybe they were off one night and lost, but not like it is now with some nights on fire and other nights we can't beat an armless junior varsity team. If we're not going to contend, I really DGAF if we're 75-9 during the regular season. And I'm tired of coaches incapable of making adjustments for the personnel they've got. It makes for some truly unwatchable basketball.

5 years ago in 2020 where did you think this team would be? Nobody thought we’d be in this position. Nobody can declare with any certainty what this team will do for 5 years. The team is good. Maybe we will catch lightning in a bottle one of these years. Enjoy the ride
A lot of these teams, raptors, nuggets, bucks etc who won a championship had plenty of playoff defeats surrounding the one year it all went right

the mavericks had to make the playoffs 11 years in a row from 2000-01 to 2010-2011 to win the championship in 2011. And in the years leading up to it, first round loss, first round loss, second round loss, first round loss, championship. We haven’t even seen 1 playoff run with bridges and towns on the roster. Fanbase is too impatient

Celtics, OKC have far superior starting lineups. I get you tossing the bench out with the qualifier, but that's a huge deal.

Some of you people need a new hobby. You are not built for winning on any level. Go back to rooting for the tank and sucking off every player on other teams. You clearly have no appreciation for what has been going on around here. Acting like you expect nothing but excellence when you have never even witnessed it. We made the finals twice in 50 years.
The worst W/L record in the entire league for two decades prior to Leon. Can't even make it 3 months into one of the best teams in the history of the franchise without throwing in the towel and looking to trade everyone away.
Embarrassing.
