This, and that dumb play by play that you can't exit on the nfl forum.

Just put the chatroom back during the deadline and draft.

You can ban people who put porn in the room quickly.

NOT FUNNY!

I kept wondering why the traffic got so big at the deadline with no major moves that I could think of. Then I realized Brandon Ingram to the Raptors (by far our biggest forum) likely did it.

I don't think Raptors posters' participation is where it has been in the past. Kawhi/Derozan trade would have had far greater traffic.

I doubt anything will change but thanks for saying something after 20+ years. The mobile situation is likely irredeemable at this point.

This place is nice for those of us who grew up on forums, but it will never grow if whatever lack of care happening keeps going on. The Bucks mods still have our logo from 2007, lol. Just complete negligence of the diamond that was struck. Wonderful place to talk basketball, but prob peaked 10 years ago

I don't think any forums are where they were in the past, but that was the one trade that happened around the deadline. I still think if people don't post as much, a ton of people still read the forum. Back when the forum showed us "Who's viewing this forum" it would should show like at least triple the number of "guests" viewing it as regular signed in posters. So during a trade I imagine a lot of people go look at the forum to see reaction, thoughts, etc...and the guest/poster ratio is even significantly higher.

I agree on this one. I really liked the old wiretap at the top. It was easy to see and click on breaking stories. Having videos take up real estate and bandwidth is not something this particular user base wants or needs. We’re all here for the convos.

Glad to know I’m not the only one that misses the wiretap on top. It was nice to get caught up on a couple stories before jumping into discussion

At first I thought RealGM had stickied a thread titled "Trade Deadline Outrage." Disappointed.

CR Reina wrote:We sincerely apologize for the forum outages this week. This has been a frustrating few days where we had a brief outage on Wednesday and then a total outage for several hours at the trade deadline. Of all days to have an outage, this is obviously one of the worst, especially right as the trade deadline is wrapping and everyone wants to discuss it.

Our server host had issues with the increased demand and the alarms in place to fix it did not reach them for several hours. We were scrambling behind the scenes to bring them back live, but it took entirely too long for it to be fixed. More importantly, it shouldn't go down at all. This was a common occurrence at the trade deadline and draft approximately 20 years ago, but we've taken a number of steps to improve site performance over the years and it hasn't happened recently. We thought the forums could withstand the traffic, but we were clearly wrong.

We are already in the process of upgrading the servers and putting more failsafes in place for situations like this. We will also be asking for more feedback for other ways we can more broadly improve the user experience on the forums.

Load balancing? Move to cloud hosting so it auto scales when traffic increases. CDN will also offload static content and reduce the load.

We previously had the Wiretap headlines at the top of the page, which meant we also had two ads on either side of it. The layout wasn't a problem on desktop, but it meant there was a significant amount of scroll on mobile. We decided to move the headlines to the bottom of the page and only run a single video ad in the space above the threads. We removed the ads altogether from any pages containing posts, so it greatly reduced the total number of ads and also doesn't run where you tend to spend more time reading and composing posts.

Our hope was that it would significantly improve mobile experience and be a net positive on desktop.

We had the previous layout for a long time with the Wiretap headlines at the top and understand why there may be a preference for it as opposed to what we have now. We can consider reverting back depending on the continued feedback.

It's 2025. This is a problem that has been solved in the tech world. There is no excuse whatsoever for outages like RGM has not just on trade deadline day but in the days around it.

I can see if we're paying money but we're not...and most people have ad blockers turned off. So yeah...

I liked the wiretap at the top. Having to scroll to the bottom for immediate info each time cumulatively takes away the immediacy.

There ought to be a sweet spot where the best of the site is optimally positioned, without intrusive ad interruptions, and working on a busy news day. There ought not be a compromise of any of these.

There's no bigger issue with the site than the lack of Bluesky embedding. Any word on that?

There appears to be an available solution. We'll add it to our to-do list and report back.
