Updating what I had earlier:

$196M - 1st tax apron

Committed salary
$138.3M - Guaranteed (10 players)
$40M - Ingram
$8-13M - FRP

That gets them to 12 players and $187-192M depending on the pick slot. Add an extra ~$1M if they fully guarantee Battle for 25/26.

We literally have a thread with a poll, where the lowest salary predicted was $40 million annually lol. Masai and Bobby did well here.

So it didn't start at 34 but likely starts 38. And people are crazy lol.

Seems a reasonable deal to get player of his ilk to sign in Canada. Glad it got sorted quickly.

Yup, Two full seasons after this. Then the option is on the 3rd,

This organization is so predictable.

Those posters were on crack but this is a reasonable deal in a vacuum.

He's starting at 38, if ppl asked for 34 then that's not too far off, definitely nothing to laugh about. Media were saying it'll be closer to 50 than it would be to IQ and they ended up being wrong

Yeah, there was the odd guy saying 35 (I think one guy even said 30 lol) but there were far more predicting he gets maxed.

34 is absolute nonsense. Nobody sane was expecting this AAV. Pure trolling.

I would say this is fair value…not a discount not an overpay, somewhere in the middle. Its Klutch sports, anyone expecting 35m per year wasnt living in reality.

30-35%: top-10 player
25-30%: All Star level
20-25%: high-end starters, just below All Star-tier
15-20%: average starters
10-15%: high level bench players (25-30 mpg)

Not impossible, but he would very likely have tested the market if Toronto only offered 3 yrs starting at $34M. 5yrs might have been a different story.

The contract is fine. The amount of years makes it especially palatable. Was a good trade overall. Good value overall.

Onwards. Lock up top 5 odds and we're rolling.

Honestly, I'd be okay with a flat 40/40/40.

Pushes us into the tax next year, but then gives us a lot more room in years 2 and 3 to avoid any repeater taxes.

Works for both sides. No pressure on him to perform for the rest of the season to earn that contract and we can rest him as much as we want to keep the tank rolling. Also the contract being short ensures that we get the best version of BI as he’ll be motivated to get potentially that last big contract of his career.

Exactly what I said he would get. Good deal for both sides.

It will likely fall somewhere above MPJ and below OG, which comes out to around $39-40m avg, for 4 years. Maybe due to the injury concerns, Raptors give a partially guaranteed 5th year to sweeten the pot, which becomes guaranteed if BI makes an all-star/all-NBA team. If I was BI's agent, and I got that offer, I'd consider it strongly.

Then there’s the question of extension vs FA signing. It’s rumoured to be a 3 year extension, which if that’s the case, I expect the AAV to be around the same but structure to give raises so the final year is the highest $$ to set the baseline for a future extension.

Didn't expect the PO, but I guess that's the cost to get the deal done now before testing FA. We gave a similar deal to GTJ so this seems to be our sweet spot for extensions of new players.

Had to compromise on the option for less annual. Deal is short enough that he has to play hard for his next contract.
