Demar’s Insane Resume!

Post#1 » by TGM » Wed Feb 12, 2025 6:05 pm

Don’t know if it’s just me, but Demar has actually achieved quite a bit over his career. I think some of his achievements would come surprising to most people:

6 time nba all-star
2 time all nba second team
1 time all nba third team

Like this is very impressive and something you would relate to a much more high profile player. Don’t know why when he played for us just didn’t seem to shine the same way. Just wanted to recognise what he has done. Mods feel free to lock the thread.

He so happened to statically be the most clutch player in the NBA.

He's also currently 28th on the NBA's all time scoring list, right behind Steph and ahead of Ray Allen. He's also poised to pass several other HOFers in the next couple of seasons (including Vince), as he's shown no signs of slowing down. He even hit 4 threes in his last game while scoring 42 points.

You can also add Olympic Gold medal, as this feeds into the basketball HOF.

But like…is this info new to you? Are you like 15 or something? Most of us literally voted for Demar as All Star and we remember each accomplishment intimately.

Could never discount his longevity/durability. He's top 30 in points and closing in on 25,000. It'd be interesting to revisit those All-NBA selections.

One of the hardest working players I've had the pleasure of watching develop. Was a really raw and athletic player coming here from USC and I remember the years of watching him struggle to shoot and dribbling the ball off his legs simply attempting to drive but he worked incredibly hard on it and now he's one of the best from mid-range, has super advanced footwork and turned into a pretty decent playmaker even after he left here. Just never stopped working on his game.

Will probably a HOFer one day and will have his jersey retired here. Definitely quite a career in the end.

For all his faults, and there were many which have been well-documented/discussed, he was still a legend here and I prefer to remember him this way

It's ok to appreciate what he's done for us while at the same time recognize we needed change cause that core went as far as they possibly could. Maybe he was a bit less of himself in the playoffs but we still had certain level of success as a team with him as one of the top guys.

After Lowry, this guy deserves to have his jersey retired the most. Hope it happens.

Demar, to me, is a testament that players can continue to grow and improve as players no matter their age.

So whenever people are yammering on about how RJ cannot continue to improve his game, I think of Demar and how RJ also grew up watching him put in the effort year after year.

There were days when people were arguing the likes of Sonny Weems over him. Goes to show you that, like today, ppl didn't know what they were talking about then too.

I will never understand Raptor fans who hate on him. Yes, his play falls off a lot in the playoffs but being good as hell in the regular season still isn't easy to do.

I've heard RJ is a demar level player like that's supposed to be a slander as if there's just so many dudes in the NBA doing what he's doing lol.

He’s kind of a Jalen Brown type of player, but has kept this up into his mid 30s, and not a lot of players have done that in the past, other than stars. Unfortunately, the best player he has ever played with is Kyle Lowry, who isn’t a star himself, but a very good player, so we have never seen him in a support role, which is where he should be.

If you like RJ Barrett, then you should appreciate Derozan and vice versa. Dude came in so raw and became so lethal with his midrange game and has great handles now.

I do think he is underrated. He has never really been given a chance to be true #2 on a team and he's obviously not a #1. But guys like Bosh can just join a superteam and then off to the HOF they go.

He can very well end up top 15 all time in scoring, which is crazy to think about.

He’s improved a lot of his shot making since leaving. One of the toughest guys to guard. Wish he was that good with us but then maybe we don’t do the Kawhi trade.

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

He's the greatest hard worker of all time. Came in pretty raw, had one or two moves that realgm bullied him for, and now he's been a pretty complete player that can pretty much do anything. Doesn't get injured very often and is still balling at 35. With all this work he's 50-60 points behind Stephen Curry, which says a lot.

All he needs is a ring. I think he deserves to ring chase at this point playing a lesser role.

Happy for him and his limited range offensive career. It's a testimony to his longevity that he can excel at his specific style of offense and keep putting up those mostly empty stat number. He's a career negative on both ends of the court and hasn't been a member of a team who made the playoffs once since that 2019 season he was traded. And I'm also grateful he never played a game for us again and we'll never have to sit him in a game 7 playoff as the highest paid player, again.Just kidding, Kyle made 1mill more per that season. What was he 11th in TS that run, at .473, yet leading the roster in USG and shooting 0% from 3?I think my brain is bleeding just remembering his play.

That being said, 16 seasons (including this one) later , over 1,100 regular season games is no easy feat.Even though he's a laughable threat from deep over most of his career, the fact is he never had that part of his to band on as a credible threat (career under 30%).But he found a way to master the mid range shot, and get to the line with his ridiculous athleticism. I firmly believe his greatest evolution was that going from (mostly) ball hog, to a who actually had an NBA reg season dishing out over 7 dimes a game. And the last 4 seasons (counting this one) his 3pt% has been above career norms.

So although I tossed a party the day he was off our team, it's definitely a feat that DeMar has lasted this many years and put up some shats and stats.

He has overall been a plus player since the age of 26 and that’s most of his career. It depends on what you want to measure his overall impact with, but his offense has more than made up for his defense for the majority of his career. He’s having his worst season in a while but he’s also on a terrible Kings team that has been imploding.

It would be interesting to see him on a contender but his lack of 3 point shooting is something you have to work around.

Been following Demar since high school. I think the years of Raps flaming out to LeBron and Pierce in the playoffs just made the self achievements completely overlooked. With that being said I feel Demar’s game went to another level after he went to the Spurs. Almost like getting traded lite a fire under him to get to that next level. Hope he comes back and retires as a Raptor. Honestly wouldn’t even mind sending RJ for him

I wonder how different the narrative for both Kyle and Demar would've been if Lebron wasn't in the EC all those years, especially in '16 when they lost in the Conference Finals in 6 games.

It's funny to think both have a decent shot at the HOF regardless. I think they've always been great, and that it's not just about longevity, they were just slamming their heads against the wall of all-time greatness. Demar didn't have much of a chance to rehabilitate his playoff reputation with rebuilding or deeply flawed teams post-Raps (Spurs, Bulls and now Kings), which is a shame since he's been one of the league's best clutch performers for a long time.
