Ya sounds like one of clarke or aldama has to go

Can they extend JJJ first, then Aldama? Boston somehow extended the entire roster.

you have to renounce aldama's caphold or trade clarke in order to have room to extend JJJ to the max i think

Boston didn't use cap space to re-negotiate and extend their players.

If JJJ wants the Max, Memphis needs to re-negotiate and extend him given his current salary number. You can't extend Aldama if you rescind him first, you would lose his rights.

They can extend everyone. The hard part is “renegotiating” JJJ up to his max next year and THEN extending him simultaneously (or a renegotiation and extension, R&E), which requires salary cap space to renegotiate his existing contract.

Ah, so dump Aldama, Clarke and Konchar and you have about 30M to add to JJJ and get him to 53M a year, sort of thing? What is JJJ eligible for?

Essentially, yeah. Some amount of those guys. Basically, anything they clear in cap space they could add to JJJ immediately up to his max and then extending him based on that.

To me the plan should be really easy?

Dump Konchar and Clarke, keep Aldama cap hold. A couple open roster spot holds.. Max JJJ. Lock Aldama up on a fully front loaded deal around 18-20 mil. Try to get a fifth year on it but probably can’t? Maybe I’m too high on him and you can get the 5th year if you start him at 20?

Think that leaves you 25ish mil for your last 4-5 roster spots under the tax (188?) feels like room MLE on a guard, a second round pick or two, and some vet mins?

And if JJJ qualifies for the supermax after this season, you thank Aldama for his time and give JJJ the extra 8 mil..

Sounds like they can keep Clarke, just dump Konchar and squeeze in under the tax.

I thought so. They should be able to give JJJ something around 55 based on the cap space (minus Konchar). Then take care of the rest.

All I’m doing is finger math from numbers on Spotrac?

135.8 actual salary for 11 players and some dead money.
11.8 for Aldama.

So 147.6 for 12 players. Dump Konchar puts you at 141.5 but only 11 players so move up to 142.7 for the min hold (unless you sign a cheap second round pick contract, which still puts them about there?)

So they can give JJJ 12-15 million? Range because I definitely did not use a calculator at all and don’t want to seem like I’m under/over shooting it..

While the math was not thought out, and is sloppy.. It doesn’t seem like it works without losing one of the backup bigs.

Once you renounce Aldama’s cap hold, he is no longer a RFA and you can only offer him cap space or the roomMLE..

If Spotrac is right (they normally are) Memphis has 135 mil committed next season and needs to cut that (not including Aldama’s cap hold) by a few million just to get JJJ to the 30% max. The 35% max (53 million) would require getting the team to 124~ million.

Which means dumping Clarke and renouncing Aldama. Konchar can stay or go once the two backup bigs are lost.. Probably best to keep him and then aggregate salary later obviously.

Still waiting for Scoot to co-sign..

I love the Aldama fit in SA next to Wemby. Can shoot, can pass, metrics have him as a decent defender.

I think he would overtake Sochan as the starter within no time personally.

If he doesn’t qualify for supermax, his max salary is closer to $46ish million.

I don’t think so. He is not a good defender (negative rim-protector) or low-post guy. He likes to cut or shoot. I would think Wemby needs some physicality from his partner.

I don't think Boston did any renegotiate and extends. If JJJ wants a big raise (full max ~46.4m) starting next year then one of Aldama or Clarke have to go and likely Konchar too. We are looking at a possible 23m raise to get his full max. Hopefully he takes less for getting more money up front but we will see.
