Lakers Utah Kessler trades etc ...

First formost I've been drinking (my Friday I've had heck of a day) so mods feel free to do what you want with this. Tradeseason Is officially over. But I'd like to talk about the Utah/Lakers trade talks about Kessler.

It's all star wknd and Lakers just played Utah twice and got there butts handed to them - shots weren't falling and Luka back from Injury etc etc, they were already In allstar wknd mode to top It all off.

There were many different talks going between the two teams b4 the Luka trade and I strongly believe even after the LUKA trade.

Utah - Kessler, Collins Pics
Utah - Kessler, Sexton pics
Utah - Kessler, JC Sexton pics
Utah - Kessler and just pics trade

Lakers - Rui, Knecht, 1 pic 1 swap
Lakers - Rui, Knecht, Hayes, 1 pic 1 swap
Lakers - Rui, Knecht, 1 pic top 4 protected etc etc etc.

There were all sorts of different rumors going on but the main one I got out of all this was.

*** Lakers weren't willling to make both pics unprotected In any Kessler trade.

Then all of a sudden, Lakers make a trade to Hornets after the Luka trade and include

Knecht, Cam, 1 Unprotected and 1 Pick swap <> If I'm not misstaken (correct me if I'm wrong and forgive I'm drinking lol)
for Injury Prone Williams and the trade gets reacinded.

Why not the F just make the pics unprotected for Walker Kessler and be done with It?

We need more INFO on the whole Utah/Laker shebackle <> not sure that a word LOL

Probably no shot what so ever now In getting Kessler In future unless massive over pay like I said in game thread.

Edit: I was betting for a Kessler trade even b4 the Luka trade ... AD/Kessler would have been deadly front court.

Honestly, I think we've debated this to no end. Now that LA has Luka I see no viable path to getting Kessler to the Lakers. The picks are much less valuable (and there are less of them) and Knecht is just a god-awful fit on our roster. Perhaps if a third team values Knecht there is a workable solution, but the most likely outcome is that they look elsewhere. My money would be on Poeltl, who would be awesome with Luka, IMO.

I think the path is definitely finding a third team for Knecht, if there is a path. I'm just not sure what reasonable return for Knecht we'd prefer to Kessler (even factoring in say ... a pick and a swap option being added to the deal). It would need to be a non-guard prospect or a valuable pick and looking at who Knecht can be used to match (you can just sort by salary here: https://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/players.html) I don't see much that is reasonable. Like, sure ... if Washington would part with Kyshawn George for Knecht I'd be down, but I don't see that happening. I could see an outside chance of something like Utah deciding the timeline is longer, New Orleans being open to swapping Missi for Knecht, and then returning some Missi + pick(s) package...but New Orleans is also wing heavy so I don't think they'd be open to it.

EDIT: actually if Orlando were interested in swapping Knecht for da Silva, I could see something there. I'm not sure they would be, but Knecht is a nice hypothetical fit for what they need. Something like...

ORL trades: Tristan da Silva
in: Dalton Knecht

LAL trades: Dalton Knecht, 2031 LAL 1st (unprotected), protections removed from 2027 1st
in: Walker Kessler

UTA trades: Walker Kessler
in: Tristan da Silva, 2027 LAL 1st protections removed, 2031 LAL 1st (unprotected)

But I feel like at the price, LAL should just shoot for a cheaper option.

Doubt either poetl or turner with age/fit concerns make Luka go "wow, ofc i lock up my future to play with turner or poetl". Would probably play out next year and see what Lakers can do to build a future before making a decision about resigning.

I think they should look at another target...if they want a young center on a rookie contract Duren seems more realistic.. something between Knecht + for Duren..
Then Detroit lets go of S. Fontecchio, sends Stewart to the Kings' TPE + some asset and they could (if I'm not mistaken) offer +30 million to Turner? or just work with Indiana on an IStewart/Turner trade..
If the Pacers don't feel comfortable paying 30+ for Turner... ..of the targets mentioned for the Lakers..
Raptors won't move Poelt (IMO)
Turner doesn't fit the ideal center archetype for Luka..
Claxton seems like a very good option, but he's light (for what I think they're looking for) and makes a lot of money..
Zubac doesn't seem realistic but ideal on paper.. Would they be interested in Mitchell Robinson? He's had several injuries, but they seem to be the result of bad luck rather than something chronic and the Knicks could use more depth

We need a rolling C more than a spacing C I think: Only FA option that really makes sense is Capela and he is a bit older now and less of a leaper, but still decent

Other option is Rui+Knecht+salary for Claxton or Kleber+Vincent+Knecht/1st for Claxton. Claxton is great, but a bit too thin for guys like Jokic

Kessler/Sexton for Reaves/Knecht would not have worked salary wise. something more from Lakers side had to work as Sexton was/is earing $18mil Ish, Reaves Is only like $13M off top of my head, needed more on Lakers side of things.

If you're Including; Kessler, Sexton $18M OR Collins $26M

Lakers would need more to make Numbers work.

Rui $17, Knecht $3.5M nd the 2 unprotected to make It work, just on Salary probably have include Cam Or Woods etc In the deal ...

Myles Turner Is great player, but as you said his 29 you need to go all In for someone like; Kessler, Turner, Poeltl ... Capela, Younger the Better, esp after the Luka trade.

Sorry should have gotten to this first hopefully this thread isn't too messy my bad in advance. Capela Is good butIs 30ish, you need someone under 30 to roll with Luka's time/age etc, Capela should be last resort behind; Kessler, Turner, Poeltl. Capela

I haven't worked In trades beyond Luka trade, Kleber I doubt Utah will want need to look on both sides of teams not just Lakers.

I could see a path to Poeltl. He’s already signed, so it’s just value and salary matching. Turner requires a sign and trade, and LA is only $8m from the 1st apron, assuming they waive Shake Milton. LA would have to clear $30+m in a potential sign and trade to get Myles and the required roster spots under the hard cap at the 1st apron. Now, Lebron couod always opt out and take less, but without that, it’s pretty tough. And if Indy is taking back $18-30m in salary matching, just feels like they’d go ahead and sign Turner instead?

He can. He doesn't get the volume he should because of our point guard play, but he is at 1.12ppp, which is about average for starting centers. I suspect that with a better pnr partner that number would rise, as would his volume. He has good hands, good mobility, and is strong as hell.
