Re: 2025 nfl draft thread
I really liked what I saw from Bartch last year filling in for Banks, so I think Banks walks and probably Bartch fills in (assuming we resign him)
that leaves us with?
LT: Williams, Moore
LG: Bartch, Buford
C: Brendel
RG: Puni, Zakelj
RT: McKivitz
C and RT are the two big pain points, especially center and this class is like historically weak at center

Agree on taken Milum at rnd 2 is early but rnd 3 is possibly too late without involving draft trades. Still, I want to come out with 2 OL out of the first 3 picks in this draft to be considered successful. Here are following players that I like to want taken from the first 2 daysCrimsonCrew wrote:WentzerWuver wrote:After watching how helpless Mahomes was in the SB, the 49ers need to put even more emphasis on the OL of weakness. Years ago it wasn't strange for an OT to go 1 and usually at least one went top 5 but I think a combination of high bust rate and the quality of OT coming out of college has gotten worse has lead to them sliding to be more in the 5-15 range now.
That's why I don't hate Shanahan's philosophy when it comes to the offensive line because it's the position group that does give you the worse return in terms of value but it's too important to treat it like he has by getting guys that wouldn't start for any other team in the league to be starters for our team.

Milum is an interesting guy. There was talk about him in this first half of the first round at one point - I know Clyde really likes him - but his arms measured in at 32 1/2". Lots of teams won't put a guy at OT with arms below 34". He's probably exclusively an IOL prospect for the vast majority of teams. Maybe all of them. Given that, he's probably not great value at 43, but probably won't last to 75.
I've been kind of going crazy on mock draft simulators lately, and I have seen Milum falling into the 3rd round in some since the Senior Bowl. I've taken him a couple times, particularly when I've passed on OL early. If he's there at 75, it's a no-brainer. He could play LG to start, and could possibly project to center down the road or be an emergency OT.
Simmons, Banks Jr, Campbell at 11

Jaxson Dart, Shavon Revel Jr, Jihaad Campbell at 43

Wyatt Milum, Emery Jones, Tate Ratledge at 75

I know you prefer Purdy over Dart but I would take him if he still at 43, then forced Purdy to either play out his current contractrl if he doesn't accept Baker's contract 50 mil guaranteed otherwise he can take a hike for being too greedy as I am trying to be fair. I have graded Dart as a QB1 in this class over the two hyped ones in the top 10.
Finally, I am happy with this mock following a trade but highly doubt they would accept that offer. We can only hope...

Re: 2025 nfl draft thread
If they trade him, the other team would have to pay his big salary. But if the 49ers are forced to cut him to reduce his cap hit, another team could sign him for a much lower salary.
So which teams will trade good assets and also take on an inflated salary on the back end of a contract which he’s no longer earning?
I’d be shocked if they get anything for him.

I havent followed the NBA since covid. It is the only source Ive seen this reported but I think there were issues with Deebo's conditioning before.

Moore is a FA, too. We're pretty jammed up along the OL. Good thing we cut Kingston last year to keep Ambry Thomas and Jake Tonges. Ugh.
I'm so irritated we didn't give Zakelj a few starts at center after we were out of the playoff hunt. If he could have shown something in real NFL games, it would have gone a long way to easing our concerns at center. He got some legit snaps at OG down the stretch - and was awesome in pass-blocking (9th of 135) but shaky in run-blocking (121st). But that was at guard.

My ideal draft has us taking OT, DT, and DE with our first three picks. I could certainly live with two OL, particularly if we're getting a future LT and are adding two immediate starters (presumably at LG and RT with those picks). No centers worth those picks, unless we see Zabel there or Milum as options, but either one of them would presumably start at RG. Hard to see Kyle trusting any rookie at center.
I'm agnostic about Dart. Haven't seen a lick of him. I'm not pounding the drum to sign Purdy to a huge contract. I will be upset if they pay him $55 million a year or more. That said, I think he's a very good QB who will be even better if we protect him better.

He will still be expensive for another team, but it's something like $17 million after we eat all the bonus money, etc. That's not so bad. If he hits the open market, he might get that, and you have to outbid other teams. I could see us getting something, but I wouldn't expect much. The projections of trading him and #11 to move up to #5 are very far-fetched. That's top half of the second round value.

i think i've settled on Mason Graham (unlikely), Josh Simmons or Armand Membou for us at 11, pending anything crazy at the combine.

I can't see this team ever taking a DB in the 1st round unless it's far and away clearly the BPA.
From how this team has drafted under Lynch/Shanahan the only positions they focus in on in the 1st are:
DL, OT, WR, and QB
I'm sure they'd make an exception if someone special falls into their laps but it seems like OT and WR are the only offensive positions outside of QB they feel are worth a 1st round pick and they place far more importance on the front 4 of the defense over the back end of it.

Greatly depends on what they do in free agency but I'd imagine if the top 10 shook out like this my gut tells me they won't be able to resist taking a WR since they pretty much have their choice at the cream of the crop.
Let me stress that I'm not saying that's what I would personally want them to do but knowing this team over the years I imagine they'll see it as do we take the 3rd best OT, or 5th best DL, or the 1st or 2nd best WR? They'll probably figure WR is the better value at that point.
My choice would still be an OT like Simmons but this team really loves it's WRs and DL.

Now Kiper's mock draft also has the 49ers taking Will Johnson CB from UM.

Re: 2025 nfl draft thread
Really hard to see us taking a CB in round 1. We have two solid starters, and have major needs elsewhere. And this FO just hasn't invested much draft capital at CB. I could see a CB in the second if it's clear BPA, but even that seems on the early side.
I'm a little worried that the guys I'm eyeing in the draft will peter out just before our pick. As of now, I'm looking at Carter (no way), Graham (likely not), Banks, or Campbell. If none of those guys are there, my inclination would be to move down and look at Simmons, Nolen, maybe Membou, or one of the edge players.
I'm interested to see where OT Connerly goes. He seemed to be rising, but then he got posterized by Green at the Senior Bowl. I could see that single rep causing him to drop several picks. I don't think he's a great fit for what Kyle likes as he needs to get stronger and improve his run blocking, but if he falls into the second round, I would strongly consider a small move up and would definitely consider taking him at 43.

Gotta admit I'd be pretty disappointed if we took a corner in the first round with the glaring need we have on both sides of the interior trenches. Well, if the corner is also 300+ pounds and can flatten pass rushers, then I'd be OK with that pick....

Jared Wilson is a center climbing up boards, not sure because he's worth it or because it's a horrendous center class, but that could be a name for one of our two thirds as the first C taken

i'll gladly take one of Simmons or Membou at 11, in fact I kinda like both of them over Campbell/Banks.
i don't see a scenario in which at least two of these guys are not available at 11 for us, tbh.
Carter/Graham are pipe dreams though, Walter Nolen and Kenneth Grant are good but prefer OL and just address the DL in 2nd/3rd, it's a deep DL class.

I've been doing kind of an obsessive number of mocks lately, and I find that going OT, DE, DT in that order works out pretty nicely. Trading back and picking up an extra second would also be awesome. I'd be very happy with a DT in the first round, but there is so much depth at the position this year. You can find good DTs - particularly run pluggers - all the way through the mock drafts. Not sure exactly how that will shake out on draft day, but there are like 25 legit DTs in this draft.
OT isn't great. Even the guys at 11 will have questions, and after Connerly in the late first, early second, I'm not sure there's another player who is a good bet to be a starter in this draft. Obviously there probably will be a couple, but beats me who they will be, and the ones that are most promising are probably of the unathletic RT variety.
DE is pretty deep, but the quality seems to dry up a bit after the mid-second. After that, you've got role players, but probably not guys who are going to play three downs early on. Good year to need a 3-4 OLB, but it's hard to see us adding guys who weigh 245.
