Format

The National Basketball Association (NBA) and the National Basketball Players Association announced today a new format for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game in the San Francisco Bay Area. The reimagined event will take place on Sunday, Feb. 16 at Chase Center, home of the Golden State Warriors, and air at 8 p.m. ET on TNT.
For the first time, the NBA All-Star Game will feature a mini-tournament with four teams and three games. Two teams will meet in one semifinal (Game 1), and the remaining two teams will meet in the other semifinal (Game 2). The winning teams from Game 1 and Game 2 will advance to face each other in the championship (Game 3). For each game, the winner will be the first team to reach or surpass 40 points.
Each team will have eight players and be named for a TNT NBA analyst. The 24 NBA All-Star selections will be divided evenly into three teams, with the rosters drafted by TNT’s Inside the NBA commentators and honorary team general managers Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny Smith. The three analysts will make their respective picks for Team Chuck, Team Shaq and Team Kenny live on TNT in the NBA All-Star Draft, which will be conducted on Thursday, Feb. 6 just before the network’s doubleheader that night.
The fourth team will be the winning team from the championship game of the Castrol Rising Stars, the annual showcase of top first- and second-year NBA players and NBA G League standouts, which will be played on Friday, Feb. 14 during NBA All-Star 2025. TNT analyst and WNBA legend Candace Parker will serve as honorary GM of the Rising Stars champion, known as Team Candace.

Thanks for this, I love watching the pre-all star programming so having the schedule stickied here will help me remember. Also, how the heck did Spida and Trae get on the international squad? Did they just not have enough international allstars to fill a team?

I've been saying this for 20 years but why don't they move the ASG to 3pm on Sunday?

Donovan was the last pick and they were out of international players, basically. Then Trae took Giannis's spot.

why don't they permanently move it to Vegas (if they don't have a team anyway) and have it become a real get away celebration where the game is just part of the party... and prob should do it at the end of the year like the nfl...like a off season thing..

Yes, because the talent influx around the world will be even higher then it is today.

Yes, Especially the long awaited return of the Seattle Supersonics, which will be massive/positive news for the NBA.

There is a lot of parity but also talent in the NBA to support 2 more teams

Believe it or not, the Washington Wizards look like being back on the way up after decades of mid tier going nowhere land by investing in youth and banking up picks/trade assets.

Detriot an historical powerhouse are playing playoffs again this season after way too long in the abyss.

Badly run teams and owners should not be a reason we shouldn't expand the league.

The Bulls will still be garbage even if the league was reduced to 20 teams, whilst Jerry Jerk-Off and his family own the team (bit like Jerry Jones at the Dallas Cowboysl

Maybe they should add something to the US Constitution that no one named Jerry is allowed to own a pro sports team :D

Actually its 10am since San Francisco time difference is usually 19 hours by my calculations. Unless it's 3pm eastern time.
