No body knows, not even Lakers, doubt he is back this season.

Preface:
For years I wondered why the Lakers were holding on to future picks and not putting a better supporting cast around AD & LeBron. I figured that the plan was to tank from 2027 to 2029 to get Top 4 picks to re-load (and not convey the Top 4 Protected 2027 1rst to Utah).
Now that the Lakers traded the 2029, and tried to trade the 2031, I can only wonder:
If the Lakers KNEW IN ADVANCE that Mark Williams had medical issues, and that they would need to really get into his physical and medical history and current condition, why wouldn't they execute the trade by Noon on Tuesday, so if there was an issue with the physical, they'd have 3 hours to pivot to another big man.
They traded for Luka 6 days before the deadline. Plenty of time there to back out if they had doubts at the physical and re-group. Why not trade for Mark Williams more than 48 hours before the 3 PM Thursday trade deadline to allow time for a contingency? You put everything into the Williams trade (Knecht, Reddish, 2030 Swap, 2031 1rst) that playing coy didn't save anything anyway.

Stay tuned...

From the outside the most plausible scenario is that the Hornets contacted us close to the deadline, and we just saw the situation too rosy. I assume the Hornets were not painting a horrendous picture of Williams (which seller would?) and Pelinka was probably blinded by his own narrative, that we can get a very good offensive center with great rebounding (who was also a good defender a tier below not very long ago), cheaply, just because he had some bad luck with injuries in the past - which are all gone by now.
