Re: Jayson Tatum Thread
Celtics are 11-12 when JT's usage rate in a game is less than 30% or JT misses a game.
Celtics are 8-9 when JT takes less than 18 FGAs in a game or doesn't play.
(Using same criteria for JB, this is 26-9 and 19-6, respectively.)

Tatum is the only player in NBA history so far to make 1,300 threes before age 27.
Tatum is the only player in NBA history so far to make 1,400 threes before age 27.
Tatum needs 19 threes (7 games left) to become the only player in NBA history to make 1,500 threes before age 27.

So you're telling us that if he DOESN'T make it to 1,500 -- whatever # he gets to, he'll be the only player in NBA history so far to make that number of threes before age 27.
And he's only 19(!)

Re: Jayson Tatum Thread
Tatum is 4th in the league in minutes played. I’d like to see him get a few rest days in the last 3rd of the season. He seems pretty spry, so I ain’t worried, but the Celtics have a pretty good deep team. No need to play him so much.
More Craig and Walsh!!!
3 Knicks are in the top 5 and another 11th.

Time will come when JT will not be getting lots of minutes.
But I don't think it will be now and the next few years.
Brad is the last coach to limit JT's minutes.
Ime and Joe are OK letting JT play a lot.
I think JT insists on playing a lot.

I can only speak for myself but sitting used to be bad for my rhythm and I'm just talking midrange game I've never had a reliable 3 ball. I wonder if JT has the same kinda superstition.

It's very obvious it's personal goals.
JT needs the individual achievements for his brand.
He has a new product endorsement, SoFi.
This is more than just about basketball for JT.

Some of us have been saying all that, about Tatum, for a while now.
Better late than never, I guess.

Re: Jayson Tatum Thread
JT naturally can't be as aggressive when everyone is healthy. Due to how the team is constructed and his unselfish nature, he will always cede stretches of possessions to his teammates for them to get in rhythm. Maybe it's also to preserve him for the long season and the playoffs.
Per Statmuse, his usage rate is 30.2% when JB is playing. That goes up to 34.7% when JB sits. This is also evident in the minutes where JT leads bench units. The Celtics best version on offense is still with him being the alpha on the team and everyone else taking on a smaller role. C's are 46-3 incl. playoffs when his usage is at least 35% in a game, per BBRef.

Re: Jayson Tatum Thread
So, when Tatum's usage rate is at its highest, he plays the best. Thinking when Tatum is at his best, so are the Celtics. So, when I suggested Boston needs to trade one of the Big mouths to feed players, Brown or KP, I get crickets, or hate. Yet like many things I say that goes against the casual stream, Casuals call me bad names.
Time usually ends up proving me right.

2 things need to go.. my lack of spell check and Joe..

If Stevens thinks about the C's as the Moneyball story, building around JT can be pretty interesting. The problem is the continuity part because basketball is the ultimate team sport because everybody touches the ball during a game. Football fans will disagree because of the "getting on the same page" aspect. Lots of time during a football game is setting up, where as basketball is constantly in motion.
JB does two very important things each night. 1) He scores and 2) He defends (in the playoffs he defends the other teams best player)
KP is like an added bonus when he's on the court. That showed last season because they won without him. I would bet my left walnut, the Celtics would not have won a championship if JB missed that many games in the playoffs.
If I'm trading JB it would have to be for a franchise level player like a Maxey, Cunningham or Sengun or a young NBA starter still on his rookie deal. Gotta do your best so you don't get fleeced if you're deciding to trade a franchise type of player.
