It's very close for me. I'll say Jokic because OKC is succeeding more so off the back of its defense whereas it's the offense for Denver:

DEN: +6.4 rORtg; +0.8 rDRtg; +5.6 rNet
OKC: +4.5 rORtg; -9.0 rDRtg (!!!) +13.5 rNet

Defense is more of a team effort whereas a single player can impact offense to a greater degree. Shai accounts for more of the OKC offense than any other player on the team but not as much as Jokic does for Denver. And OKC scores a lot of its points from turnovers on defense. Shai's a part of that but just one cog in the defensive system.

Murray’s advanced stats this season are comparable to Cam Johnson’s
Slow start. Very slow start. Why are you trying to pretend like he hasn't been much better since? Shouldn't that be a good thing since the nuggets have no chance at contending without him playing well and jokic has next to no chance to win mvp if murray doesn't play well because the nuggets wouldn't be good enough?

Do you think murray playing well takes away from jokic greatness? What gives?

I mean its not surprising because your whole argument all year has been about how bad jokics teammates have been... but that's out the window now.

SGA gets indeed a soft whistle
He may look like an idiot and talk like an idiot but don't let that fool you. He really is an idiot.

heading into the all-star break, Jokic has been closing the gap some
OKC's incredible 4th quarter comeback (and domination) vs. the Heat kinda saved SGA from a meh stretch (by his standards)

he had three kind of pedestrian games and had a pretty bad line going into the 4th vs. the Heat. they also ended up getting the W. losing a back to back in Minnesota with 6-21 (8 rebs, 9 assists one turnover is nice) and -12 (the worst among OKC starters)

that's a 5 game stretch of playing below his lofty season long level while Jokic has been killing it. race isn't over yet, they're pretty close rn in my book all in all

I punctuated my post badly lol

I meant "they got the W" vs. the Heat in the comback win, and SGA did his thing in the 4th, otherwise this last 5 games stretch would be 3-2 and worse statistically

The Wolves arena chanting “Free throw merchant” is pretty wild.

At the all-star break, for me the case for Jokic has just gotten stronger as Denver has moved up in the standings. They're just behind Memphis for 2nd in the West and Jokic continues an outrageous season where he is 3rd in scoring, 2nd in assists, t-3rd in rebounds, t-2nd in double-doubles, and running way with triple-doubles (he has 25 versus 2nd place LeBron's 10).

The hands-down best player in the league is having his most dominant season and his team has the 5th best record in the league.

Giannis isn’t likely to qualify.
He needs to play in 24 of 29 remaining games for the Bucks….and they have 5 back to backs

I meant imo the race is still open and the gap has closed somewhat in recent weeks,I didn't mean in the voter's opinion :)

Bontemp's second straw poll reflects very well where I would have guessed the vote is at rn. I actually listened to parts from the whole convo earlier, according to Bontemps, these votes were collected during the last two weeks and it's actually been probably the worst two weeks for SGA in a while (it's funny to say "worst" cuz it was still awesome but you know what I mean), while Jokic has done nothing but win and dominate in that stretch. so i'd imagine some of the early votes that were cast two weeks ago, might have gone differently today, maybe 65-35? I think that's where the race is at rn

and personally I still have SGA ahead but I don't think it's over and I def still see a path for Jokic to win it

Bontemps also spoke alot about voter fatigue, as it's been reflected from the folks that voted. something that came up with multiple voters, that both candidates are very deserving and close and that if all else is equal (or kind of equal), their tendenacy is to go with the one who haven't won one yet

I really think if this was Jokic's first or second, we'd be pretty deadlocked rn but it isn't, so it's SGA's to lose at this point

Seems pretty reasonable to me for reasons I've detailed earlier. Shai's in the lead, Jokic is close behind, everyone else is a step behind that.

A step behind is a bit on an understatement

Bontemps said there was only one ballot who didn't have SGA and Jokic as 1 and 2 (in any order)
