Re: Theringer take on our trade deadline stand
The RealGM Lab page on it makes it seem like ORL keeps the single most favorable 2026 1st Pick between ORL's and then the lesser of PHX's, and WAS's (1-8 Protected). Doesn't matter if WAS Pick stays Protected and doesn't Convey. The stuff with MEM seems to be about the leftover Picks from there.
So imagine in 2026, that ORL slots at 26th, PHX implodes from Durant and Beal leaving and slots at 7th, and WAS slots at 8th.
ORL would Swap their 26th Pick for PHX's 7th Pick because WAS Protected their 8th Pick (1-8 Protection).
Or imagine in 2026, that ORL slots at 26th, PHX implodes from Durant and Beal leaving and slots at 7th, and WAS slots at 10th.
ORL would Swap their 26th Pick for WAS's 10th Pick (via PHX) because it is the lesser of PHX and WAS's Picks.
---
This year in 2025, it looks like ORL slots at 19th, and then ALSO the 25th Pick (via DEN).

Luckily, Weltman might only be the third worst GM of the relevant group to this trade.
maybe third worst in NBA too.

but let's get back to the hot girls...I'm tired of talking about Weltman and hearing that Simons and CJ aren't good even though they could beat our whole team by themselves.

This "what if " scenario isn't grounded in reality.
For starters, Beal and Durant can't "leave". They can only be traded.
Beal's case is even worst, he has to agree to be traded. by default it means only big market teams & other stars can be traded for him. In best case he will return to Washington.
Suns already had agreed upon trade for Durant just to, according to reports & rumor, screw it up by asking way too much.
Basically original deal had them getting Butler, Kuminga and pick swap, but they also wanted Jović and Ware and first round pick in return.
Anyhow, Suns will in that scenario get $110 000 000 in return through players.
Without picks and Booker in his prime , they won't take "young players", they will flip Durant for another star(s).
Durant is expiring $55M , pretty much every single contender that believes they can win next year will be calling for trade.
Grizzlies, Rockets, Dallas will be first in line to call. Bucks, Nuggets, Wolves, Lakers ,Heat as well.
Second, in order to Magic "slot 26th" they would have to win around 55 games ( current pace in nba for 5th best record is 55 wins= 26th pick).
Most realistic outcome it go from some 20-ish pick to 12-16 slot.

It was mostly for the examples and not what I actually project. But I thought for the fun of it, yes, I would do some absurdly best-case type scenarios. Still an interesting post though, definitely seems PHX won’t go into the Lottery even in worser case scenarios. Not with a prime Booker and a great trade haul.

Imo, whoever among contenders gets trashed in playoffs, will go after Durant next.

No need to panic and get taken advantage. Magic will prove all these haters wrong!
“We will come to a point where we are going to assess the team and see what it is that we need to advance to the next phase and really turn the corner,” Weltman said. “I look forward to doing that. … We’re going to be aggressive.”

And the annual trade thread on this forum goes 100+ pages every year. Talk about too much free time/mental illness.

We have right to swap after and if Wizards swap.
But Wizards don't even own -own 2026 pick, it belongs to Knicks if it falls over 9th in draft. (1-8 protected).
But we can assume Wizards will continue to suck.
So best case is that both Wizards and Suns suck in same year where Magic are good.
After Magic, Memphis has right to swap pick yet again, and Hornets get whatever is left.
To add even more mess to a mess, Durant will probably be traded in off season AND Beal is entering de facto last year of his deal (assuming he won't pick player's option and wants annually lower deal but with more years ).
Booker went out and said he wants to stay with Suns "whole career" regardless of 2025 off season, and it just means that Suns will, due lack of other options, try to retool roster in off season.
Craziest part of all this is that Wizards and Hawks were actually interested in Beal.
Who knows, might be good, might be literally nothing. This year people got all wet about Nuggets pick due lack of serious protection and slow start but not only that they figured out, they are in serious race for top 3 record in nba now.
So we still get the second best? Lol

Re: Theringer take on our trade deadline stand
That i understand. We have the picks regardless to make a decent enough splash if a team is looking to retool and we are looking to upgrade. However, much like are extreme glut of second rounders, we primarily toss those out as "cash considerations".
Also if we can get this thread to deteriorate into "women are beautiful" I am OK with that. Much better positivity then where this thread is currently at.

Yes. If we have better record than Suns. If they are better, pick simply does not swaps.
But whole Suns upcomming offseson saga is impossible to predict to pay much attention.
It's like Nuggets 2025 pick, people got exited for nothing when season started.
In most cases teams that trade out pick are well aware of it and build teams that don't suck.
Suns already fixed some crap they made. With Nurkić trade they are below second apron and now can aggregate salaries again and by trading for 3 first round picks, it gives them even more freedom to createa something.
What they will do ? I have no clue.
Probably trade Durant and hope some fool takes Beal.
That fool might be Nets, they will need like $100M in books to even meet salary floor.
