The best option is probably a guy like Max Christie. A high 2nd Rd pick with some skill who the Lakers gave an opportunity to.
We should do the same. Let Bobby walk and play Tyler Smith next year... Or now really. We gotta start taking some chances on unknown commodities.
Can we wait to gift Tyler Smith minutes until he's good enough to earn a starting job on the Herd?
Tyler Smith Feb 3 @ OKC >> 12 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals in first extended play
It'd be a mistake not to drop Smith into the currently in-flux lineups just to see what happens. Feeding himcost-free minutes alongside Porter, Jericho Sims and Kuz just to see what settles out, variable lineups & ball movement being notable in Kuz's first game. If you're not bringing guys along as you go what are we doing. The alternative is just pointlessly grinding Giannis and Brook down,

I’d give Ellenson a shot before Tyler Smith. He’s been pretty consistent all year

Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas - Giannis out until after the break
The first half of the season was the time to try things and the Bucks did. Trying to acclimate Prince, Green,AJJ, Rollins, Trent and now Kuzma and Porter is more than enough experimentation.
Now is the time to solidify a rotation for the playoffs. It doesn't mean you have to play Giannis and Dame 38 minutes. But just throwing a rookie in there after having a mediocre Herd season doesn't make sense to me. Same with Sims.
The Bucks are just a few games out of being in the play-in. Get to work.

This. But I think there is plenty of reasons to be optimistic. The new acquisitions (GTJ & TP) are shooting the lights out from 3. AJ Green continues shoot over 40% 3pt with increased minutes and his defense is obviously improved. Giannis is performing at an MVP level, and Dame is showing no signs of slowing down. Kuzma is not as good as Middleton but will be more impactful by filling areas of need with his energy, rebounding, defense, and health. Maybe even catch lightning in a bottle with KPJ filling the backup PG duties. Just get healthy AND stay healthy and it's not hard to imagine the Bucks going on a dominant run post all-star break.

Nope. Theis signed overseas and Alex Len signed with the Lakers. That leaves Mo Bamba and Cody Zeller lol

Ellenson might have the slowest defensive feet of a big man, like ever. Tyler Smith hopefully just needs some coaching on how to actually play defense

As Big O said, we are in the stretch run to the playoffs. The time for experimentation with the young guys is over. For better or worse we have 2 months to get ready.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Ah that explains it. I’ve been seeing all of his insane stat lines game after game and wondering if the dude’s worth a shot.
Admittedly I haven’t actually watched a Herd game all year.

Inclined to think the second. Not a lot of bigs on hand and doesn't bode well that Sims couldn't get tick while Giannis was out.
I'd assume its just that he has to learn the system. Sure we could throw him out there and let him go full Thanasis but if he wants to spell any minutes he probably has to have a little more than just energy and athleticism. Where guys like Kuzma and KPJ are talented players, Sims is not, so just throwing him to the wolves probably hurts more than it helps.
So far Doc's introducing 1 new guy a game, or at least one at a time, first Kuz, then last game he unleashed Porter, prolly he'll see what settled out, then see where & how to deploy Sims. They didn't get him cuz they don't want him. Soaking up minutes to spell Brook and Giannis as necessary is the most obvious scenario, largely b/c the alternative is to just grind Brook & Giannis down for no real reason only to have nothing in the tank when it matters. feel free to use no big deal. Agreed he's gotta figure things out as fast as say Porter

I gave you an And 1, not because I share your optimism, but becasue you correctly laid out the best case scenario. To give the other side:
1) I don't see TP being able to get off his shots in the playoffs. Same with Green. The playoffs are a different animal. One trick ponies are usually shut down.
2) I don't include GTJ in #1, because of his superquick release. But the idea is the same.
3) As to Kuzma, any replacement for prime KM would be an efficiency dropoff, but Kuzma's dropoff is huge (doesn't even include his 60% free throw percentage). If he can limit himself to good shots, he can be a plus. But the thing about Khris is that he took bad shots and was still efficient, because for him they weren't bad shots. Who is the third efficient scoring option you can count on in the playoffs?

Giannis buddy Christian Wood is out there. Sounds like he may be close to getting back out on the court.
Would’ve been a potential Bobby replacement had we traded him at the deadline.

Maybe, but if he's not going to play in a game where Giannis is out against one of the biggest teams in the league I don't think that portends him playing much going forward. Giannis, Portis and Lopez are going to have almost all of the 4/5 minutes and whatever is left will probably go to Kuzma and/or Prince in small ball lineups.

If healthy (yep...big if) the 2025 playoff version of the Bucks will have 2 alpha scorers who can put the defense into rotation in the half court. There will be open shots. Just need to knock them down. Offensively, I'll take my chances with those 2, over the previous big 3 (Giannis, Khris, Jrue) every time.

I have a hard time seeing Smith as a big, where he'd end up as the low man as a matter of course and would have to recognize that in a timely way. Think he moves well enough to defend the perimeter and I'd want to keep him out there defensively, maybe even at the top of a zone like we used to do sometimes with Jabari, another clueless forward with good feet.

From watching him in summer league, he seemed to not be afraid to bang down low and made an effort to set a decent screen.

No one's asking for nonsense, young man. Having pieces and not using them is incoherent, as is not finding out what ya got while you've got minutes in games where oh, I dunno, both Giannis and Dame need a break to reup regenerate. Let's review.
realGM: "Kuzma's not even a #2, let alone a #1! He's no peak $Khash$munny!" Kuzma: Passes the **** ball, which is a massive upgrade. Not perfect, lays down a modest stat line; he mooves, defends, rebounds, suddenly *there's ball movement all over the place*. realGM consensus turns right around.
realGM: "Porter's not on the path to true enlightenment!" Porter: "Everbody relax"
realGM: 'Sims must be denied minutes b/c reasons and also we haven't been told he's a franchise-levitating changemaker @ the 5'
Sims:
Mebbe Doc already knows what he's got, and we wont' see him. But that's useless:
With rotation in flux, there's no cost to seeing how Sims and Smith go with the flow; after all we all know we're chasing the sorely lacking Mamu Mystique ever since, well, you know; and Doc HAS TO find out because sooner or later, at some make-or-break moment, he'll need to know. I mean, if you really think grinding down Brook, grinding down Giannis, grinding down Dame, running more Bobby is a viable path to another title, hey, more power to ya.
