Besides Scottie, Who Has the Highest Chance of Making an All-Star Game Appearance in the Next 5 Years?

Post#1 » by TorontoBarneys » Fri Feb 14, 2025 8:20 pm

We already know Scottie has all-star potential (and maybe a bit beyond) but what about the other pieces on the team that aren't him or the incoming 2025 1st that we assume to be significant?

Who you got?

Is this under the assumption only 1 player makes it from the team? If so, most obvious choices would be BI/RJ, but I still think it's a super outside shot for RJ and a "realistic" shot for BI.

Not sure I have any faith in the rest of the roster, Gradey would be my dark horse, but that's dependent on a lot of stuff that's up in the air.

Ingram if he stays healthy....Ingram and RJ put up fringe allstar numbers, but the team would need a winning record for either one of them to picked for the ASG.

I mean, the guy who has made it before is the obvious choice. Hell, he might have a better chance to make it again than Scottie does TBH just due to how the ASG favors offense.

But after that it is RJ and IQ. They have a bigger chance of being all-stars than anyone else on the list has of being starters.

The real answer is the 2025 1st rounder has the best chance.
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

Scottie deservedly made the all-star team by putting up 20/8/6 on 57 TS% for a team with a .345 winning percentage prior to the ASB last season and there is almost always 3 or more players on sub-.500 teams that earn an all-star appearance each year (Haliburton + DeRozan + Markkanen in 2023, Trae + LaMelo + Murray in 2022, Beal + LaVine + Sabonis + Vucevic + Zion in 2021, etc.). The majority of those players weren't putting up any earthshattering kind of numbers. If Ingram can stay relatively healthy and do what he did for the Pelicans (23/5/5 type numbers) or RJ can repeat what he's done so far this season (22/7/6), there is a good chance that at least one of them are an all-star in the next two seasons. Same goes for Scottie.

If it's just 1 allstar then yes one of them could still make it with a losing record....in the case that it's Barnes + Ingram/RJ then they would need the winning record or at least have playoff seeding.

ingram, if the raptors have a turnaround season next year, a lot of the credit will go ingram and the narrative will be there to push it.

How is this a question? Ingram is the most talented player on the roster.
2019 Eastern Conference All Stars

Derozan
Lowry
Ibaka
Valanciunas
Van Vleet
Delon Wright
Lebron
Embiid

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

Only thing I disagree with here is that I'd probably bet on Walter being a solid starter over Quickley or RJ of making an all-star team. He can probably shoot, not noticeably bad on D, which are real building blocks for a 20 year old 2 guard.
Where's the D?

Ingram, becasue he's older and already established.

Then Ja'Kobe, I'm telling you there's something special with him. His play style is already that of 7 year vet, just wait a few years.

If Ingram stays healthy, he's an All Star.

I think he gets nominated ahead of Scottie.

BI is entering his prime, changed his number and he signed a prove it deal.

I don't question his drive to make it happen.

Removing Ingram from the question.

Rj and IQ are better players than Jo'Kobe or Dick although they are not good enough now. But the younger players have more years to become an all star and more potential. That could increase their likelihood. How much better would Rj need to be? Can IQ consistently put up the numbers.

Jo'Kobe has that all star path available to him that Dick doesn't have. Dick's ceiling is starter Jo'Kobe's is leading scorer.

I’m not seeing it. His ceiling is Aaron Nesmith IMO.

BI has a slim chance since he was already an All-Star once.

JaKobe and Gradey have a shot, if we get lucky with their development.

Realistically, I'd probably give the highest odds to whoever we draft this year with our first pick.
