Moustapha Thiam. A 7'2 long, quick 4/5 that just happens to be shooting 43.5% from three. Even the 2nd round and undrafted ranges will offer some very nice high-end talent that we can farm cost-controlled depth and positional high end talent.
Sounds great. I want to target a long, big rim protector that can hit the 3. Wemby/Chet type. A guy that can compete with these new WC centers, being able to guard them as best he can, and others such as Sengun, Lively, Missi, Clingan, Edey, as well.
But really prevent guards from driving, etc, too. A Gobert type of defender.
It would really help us.
We need more big athletic wing defenders too at 2/3/4 who can shoot. Hopefully, we can get some young guys in trade, or steal a late pick.
The top 5 best center options that come to mind for me that would absolutely be in our range and attainable (If we prioritized that option first) would be: (aside from Johni Broome and Yaxel Lendeborg, both undersized at 6'9/ 6'10 4/5s' but very versatile and impactful statistically as ultimate high-end plug 'n' play two-way bigs)
1- Ryan Kalkbrenner. (mid 2nd round)
A 7'1 250 lbs. Kind of a lankier poor man's Brook Lopez.
2- Xavier Booker. (late 2nd round- undrafted)
A 6'11 205 lb with a 7'5 wingspan very quick athletically explosive rim running 4/5 option with ELITEE shot-blocking, and a very solid developing faceup game and 3-point shooting. He's basically a young skinny version of Anthony Davis. And that's not an exaggeration if you look into his game.
3- Jo'an Beringer. (early 2nd round)
A 6'10 - 6'11 with a 7'5 wingspan high motor, very quick, mobile rim running, shot-blocking mix of Jarrett Allen/ Kel' el Ware/ Yves Missi. He can recover quickly all over the floor but doesn't really have much of an offensive game yet. HOWEVER, He did recently have a small span of 40% shooting from three though.
4- Zvonimir Ivisic. (mid- late 2nd round).
A 7'3 220 lb 4/5 with a 7'5 wingspan and incredible versatility that can pass, handle the ball a bit, can hit the three, and block shots. Overall, Ivisic is a more mobile mix of Porzingis/ Bol Bol (with better defensive awareness/ versatility.
5- Mustapha Thiam. (late 2nd round-undrafted)
A 7'2 235 lb long, lanky, mobile slightly better version of Mo Bamba or Duop Reath with more size and better rim protection.
6- Johan Grunloh. (mid 2nd- late 2nd round).
A 6'10- 6'11 220 lb 4/5 that's long, and lanky with decent athleticism and solid two-way ability. He can hit the three and block shots.
Overall he's a mix of a more mobile Jacob Potl/ Aldama with a splash of Brad Miller.
**** Vladislav Goldin (Michigan) 7'1 250 lb center in the Zubac/ Gortat mold. Plays with a ton of physicality, energy, and tenacity and is a quicker, more mobile version of Zubac with an edge and some three-point shooting. The very best undrafted options for athletic, physical, intimidating shot-blocking are Clif Omoruyi, Aziz Bandaogo, Ugonna Kingsley Oneyso, Aaron Bradshaw, Felix Okpala. I'd also absolutely target at least one big-bodied center option (from the undrafted pool- stash in G League) for specific matchups against the NBA's bigger, more physical, strong, and brutish centers in the NBA. Really any of Hunter Dickinson, Hansen Yang, Amari Williams, or Omar Ballo would do!
For big, athletic wing defenders, Our best options are:
1- JoJo Tugler (early-mid 2nd round)
6'8 230 lbs with a 7'6 wingspan, a nonstop hot motor, relentless tenacity, and great mobility/recovery. Even though not yet a great shooter, Veery easily the very best ELITE multi-positional defender in the entire draft. His shooting is not there yet, but it is absolutely coming along! He's kind of a mix of Ben Wallace/Dennis Rodman/ Artest (strength) -type elite relentless defender. Nowhere near as yoked as Wallace of course, but the same energy, motor, physicality, and relentless mentality of the three.
2- Alex Karaban (Late first round- Early 2nd)
6'8 220 lbs. A really good shooter and tenacious defender. plays with passion and tenacity, versatile, and surprisingly good shot-blocker due to his timing and anticipation.
3- Carter Bryant (Early-mid 2nd round)
6'8 225 lbs and is athletic, strong, and versatile while being able to hit the three too. He's ultimately a mix of Richard Jefferson with a bit of Sean Elliot overall, he's pretty Solid and versatile.
4- Myles Byrd ( Early-mid 2nd round)
A 6'7 220 lb strong and versatile defender who can rack up steals/ blocks using his quickness and great defensive awareness while also being able to hit the three.
5- Nique' Clifford (mid 2nd round)
A 6'6 mini version of Mikal Bridges as a versatile two-way wing.
6- BaBa Miller (Late 2nd- undrafted range)
A 7'0 SF with a 7'2 wingspan that is still a bit raw, but is versatile, can handle, shoot, defend, pass, and do a bit of everything really.
7- Dillon Mitchell (Late 2nd - undrafted range)
A 6'8 220 lb super athletic, high motor physical wing/forward that can defend multiple positions, is lethal in the open court and is a high motor with tenacity.
8- Dailyn Swain ( Undrafted range)
A 6'8 220 lb wing/forward who is high motor, very disruptive, and a fluid multipositional defensive playmaker.
9- Igor Milicic (undrafted range)
A 6'8 220 lb wing forward with good shooting versatility, solid motor, and tenacious defense.
10- Berke Buyuktuncel (undrafted range)
A 6'9 skilled left-handed two-way high motor wing/forward with a high IQ and strong defensive awareness and IQ. Kind of a skinny athletic mix of Saric/ Ilyasova.
