Wizards get Beal and Durant

Post#1 » by zimpy27 » Sat Feb 15, 2025 11:33 pm

This may sound out there but Wiz were open to taking Beal back and they've always wanted Durant to return to his home town.

Middleton+Poole+Sarr+Kispert is enough salary out to accept Durant+Beal.
Suns save $20m in the deal and can drop below tax if they choose to not pick up option or waive non-guarantees.

Wizards can have Smart, Beal, Flagg, Durant -- Brogdon, Bilal, Bey
They'd have an offseason to fill in Center spots.

Suns would have Poole, Booker, Midds, Dunn, Sarr and whatever depth they decide to keep.
They get younger around Booker.

Anyway, interested to see hat others think and might do between these 2 teams. Could it just be a Beal trade?

If the Wizards were going to be involved in some sort of package where they take on Durant and Beal in exchange for bailing out Phoenix and helping them reboot, they would definitely flip Durant someplace else for younger assets. The team you assembled above just isn't good enough to be all in with Beal and Durant.

If you are rebuilding around Flagg, Bilal, Carrington and George, you don't want Durant, you want more young guys.

I think Flagg is going to be great right away. I don't know if the other young Wiz players are any good yet. I think you could use the value of the potential of your young guys to build a contender around Flagg from day one. Something like what happened with Duncan.

Like I'm sure Wiz do the fumbling around with building youth thing. But I do think there is this other option where they bring back Beal who had a great relationship with the Wiz and Durant who is the hometown kid.

They look to reload around Booker, Suns won't want to tank, they'd want to build up youth with Booker. And Bud is still coaching.

I just wouldn't bank on Durant. He is too brittle at this stage of his career. And Flagg will be good right away, but nobody is great right away. Flagg is still going to take at least 2 or 3 years before he is a legit franchise-carrying superstar. And I definitely wouldn't bank on Durant being a major force 2 or 3 years down the road. I'd much rather flip him to someplace like Houston for a good young player and some picks.

If we were talking about someone just a bit younger, like, say, Anthony Davis, then this strategy might make sense. But I just would never bet on a star tandem that are 18 years apart in age. FWIW, Robinson and Duncan were 11 years apart.

Not sure they a better team post trade or have a path forward.

Better off trading Durant to fix holes and keeping Beal for reloading strategy imo

And how would you suggest they do that? Suns our leverage to the hilt. When the next time they can conceivable get a lottery pick 2032? I don't think they is a path forward with Booker unless he is really willing to ride out 4-5 seasons of nothing basketball.
