When you're paying someone max money and isn't moving the needle to get us closer to the chip you're going to be happy? These stats and our record are misleading. We're pretenders right now.
This is his first season with us. Why not wait until after the playoffs to say he hasn't moved the needle. This is the Knicks best record at the All Star break in how many years???? 28 effin years and you say Kat isn't moving the needle and is C- at best? Our record isn't misleading like you state. You either win or lose a game. Our record is what it is and that's impressive. Your take on this is wack!
I think this is an overall reasonable take, but against the spirit of the thread. Yes, to judge what has/is happened/ing one needs to look at this year's playoffs. But the thread was about what the estimates are so far.
Let me give it a go. I don't grade on a scale, have tough exams and will talk until your ears bleed in office hours if you let me.
JB: A-. I was the biggest JB booster in the preseason before he came. I'm sure he can improve to an A with more time adapting to having another all-star on offence.
KAT: A-. Much better on offence than expected despite Thibs's lack of a clue. Obviously we'd like to see him matching up with 4s on defence to see how that end really looks.
Hart: A+. From not being able to shoot at all in preseason is outperforming all possible expectations.
Bridges: B-. I mean it's not a disaster so far. But it's not as good as hoped on either end. In fact, maybe B- is a bit high. W/e. Tests are hard, but the marking is generous/fair.
OG: B. Thibs gives him too many minutes. (Applicable to Bridges as well.) Hard to sustain anything better given that.
Deuce: C-. I was never the Deuce fan some of you were, hope he improves with the baby now sealed as well as the contract, underperforming on the court even if achieving his goals in the bedroom.
Payne: B+. Overachieving. I'm pretty sure that it's not sustainable and I would not be at all surprised if Delon Wright steals his time, but w/e.
Precious: C+. Given a hard task, but not hitting it out of the park. I think he'll lose playing time as the year goes on.
Hukporti: B. Ffs Thibs, play him more. Play him with KAT and without KAT. You need the experiment of KAT + big-C and you need the experiment of how/if Huk can fit in. This is hardly trying to land a space-craft in a claw-grab landing pad science.
Kolek: (not submitted - the minutes are meaningless)
Dadiet: C, I guess. Signs of life in the extremely few real minutes. Again, should have been given more run. Not terrible for a rookie suffering under playing for Thibs, which is something
Mitch: (absent/illness)
Thibs: D-----. Idgaf if the offence talent on the team makes them win regular season games when Thibs forces the starters to play 40+ minutes a game with no offensive structure other than "your turn". And can you defend a Celtics 3-pt shooting avalanche? (Let alone anything from the West.) I really, really want the Knicks to sack Thibs and replace him with a coach who gets the general way the NBA is.
