NOP - SAC (Kings Go All In)
***Trade occurs on/after the 2025 draft and I’m assuming the Kings 2025 1st conveys to ATL (only top 12 protected)***
—————————
NOP GETS: Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, Devin Carter, 2026 SAC 1st (Unprotected), 2027 SAC/SAS 1st (Unprotected - Most Favorable of SAC/SAS), 2027 SAC/SAS 1st Pick Swap (Least Favorable of SAC/SAS), 2028 SAC 1st (Unprotected), 2029 SAC 1st Pick Swap, 2030 SAC 1st (Unprotected), 2031 MIN/SAC/SAS 1st (Unprotected - 2nd Most Favorable of MIN/SAC/SAS), 2031 MIN/SAC/SAS 1st Pick Swap (Least Favorable of MIN/SAC/SAS), & 2032 SAC 1st (Unprotected)
NOP GIVES: Zion Williamson, Trey Murphy, Herb Jones, & Jose Alvarado
WHY FOR NOP? Considering the Pelicans have the 2nd worst record in the league, they move towards a hard reset and sell off their positive value/win now vets to set them up for the future by receiving a recent lottery pick (Devin Carter) and a war chest of picks (6 unprotected 1sts & 3 pick swaps). They’ll still have some win now vets left over like Murray, McCollum, LaVine, and DeRozan who they can look to move over time when teams become desperate enough to give up value for them or could be used as large expiring contracts over the coming years.
PG - Murray / Carter
SG - McCollum / Hawkins / Reeves
SF - LaVine
PF - DeRozan
C - Missi / Olynyk / Matkovic
—————————
SAC GETS: Zion Williamson, Trey Murphy, Herb Jones, & Jose Alvarado
SAC GIVES: Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, Devin Carter, 2026 SAC 1st (Unprotected), 2027 SAC/SAS 1st (Unprotected - Most Favorable of SAC/SAS), 2027 SAC/SAS 1st Pick Swap (Least Favorable of SAC/SAS), 2028 SAC 1st (Unprotected), 2029 SAC 1st Pick Swap, 2030 SAC 1st (Unprotected), 2031 MIN/SAC/SAS 1st (Unprotected - 2nd Most Favorable of MIN/SAC/SAS), 2031 MIN/SAC/SAS 1st Pick Swap (Least Favorable of MIN/SAC/SAS), & 2032 SAC 1st (Unprotected)
WHY FOR SAC? With Fox gone, the Kings are left without someone who has the potential to be a #1 option on a top shelf team. They take a chance on bringing Zion aboard to give them a player of that caliber that can hopefully be “the guy” on a top shelf team while also adding some much needed defense, shooting, length, and athleticism to complement the rest of the roster. Kings will be left with a scoring trio of Zion, Sabonis, & Monk with Murphy as a secondary scorer. Defensively, they have a lot of great defenders to utilize in Alvarado, Ellis, Jones, Murphy and Murray. Zion and Sabonis may not be the best fit in the frontcourt, but I could see it work offensively with Sabonis’ passing ability and improved shooting (.455 3P%). Also, if Zion does miss some time, the Kings still have both Murray and Ellis who could be inserted into the starting lineup to give them a formidable roster.
PG - Monk / Alvarado
SG - Jones / Ellis
SF - Murphy / Murray
PF - Zion
C - Sabonis / Valanciunas

I think Pelicans are keeping Murphy for a rebuild. Zion and Jones are probably fair game though

Re: NOP - SAC (Kings Go All In)
Looking at what picks NOP has today, the pick swaps could be improved a bit. The haul for Zion, Murphy Herb, & Alvarado could look something like…
Zach LaVine
DeMar DeRozan
Devin Carter
2026 SAC 1st
2027 SAC/SAS 1st (Most Favorable of SAC & SAS)
2027 Pick Swap (2nd Most Favorable of MIL, NOP, SAC, & SAS)
2028 SAC 1st
2029 Pick Swap (Most Favorable of NOP & SAC)
2030 SAC 1st
2031 MIN/SAC/SAS 1st (2nd Most Favorable of MIN, SAC, & SAS)
2031 Pick Swap (3rd Most Favorable of NOP, MIN, SAC, & SAS)
2032 SAC 1st
…and that would leave NOP with the following draft capital…
2025 NOP 1st
2025 MIL 1st (Protected 5-30)
2026 NOP/MIL 1st (Most Favorable)
2026 SAC 1st
2026 IND 1st (Protected 1-4)
2027 SAC/SAS 1st (Most Favorable)
2027 MIL/NOP/SAC/SAS 1st (2nd Most Favorable)
2028 NOP 1st
2028 SAC 1st
2029 NOP/SAC (Most Favorable of NOP & SAC)
2030 NOP 1st
2030 SAC 1st
2031 MIN/SAC/SAS 1st (2nd Most Favorable)
2031 NOP/MIN/SAC/SAS 1st (3rd Most Favorable)
2032 NOP 1st
2032 SAC 1st
…that’s 16 1sts (but more realistically 15 unprotected/lightly protected 1sts) over the next 8 drafts. Combine that with Carter, Missi, and Hawkins and the Pelicans would be sitting pretty in the future.
Zach LaVine
DeMar DeRozan
Devin Carter
2026 SAC 1st
2027 SAC/SAS 1st (Most Favorable of SAC & SAS)
2027 Pick Swap (2nd Most Favorable of MIL, NOP, SAC, & SAS)
2028 SAC 1st
2029 Pick Swap (Most Favorable of NOP & SAC)
2030 SAC 1st
2031 MIN/SAC/SAS 1st (2nd Most Favorable of MIN, SAC, & SAS)
2031 Pick Swap (3rd Most Favorable of NOP, MIN, SAC, & SAS)
2032 SAC 1st

2025 MIL 1st (Protected 5-30)
2026 NOP/MIL 1st (Most Favorable)
2026 SAC 1st
2026 IND 1st (Protected 1-4)
2027 SAC/SAS 1st (Most Favorable)
2027 MIL/NOP/SAC/SAS 1st (2nd Most Favorable)
2028 NOP 1st
2028 SAC 1st
2029 NOP/SAC (Most Favorable of NOP & SAC)
2030 NOP 1st
2030 SAC 1st
2031 MIN/SAC/SAS 1st (2nd Most Favorable)
2031 NOP/MIN/SAC/SAS 1st (3rd Most Favorable)
2032 NOP 1st
2032 SAC 1st

I mean if they are going to be doing a hard reset, I don’t think it makes a ton of sense to keep Murphy. Move him now for max value and use those picks/assets to try and find that new #1 option/star that you think can carry a top shelf team one day.

Trey is only 24 and improving every year. I think he's a potential building block to build your team around. He's locked in for 4 more years after this so its not like he's a flight risk like Jones

Ridiculous amount of picks and draft capital...
Undervaluing Carter
LaVine is a better offensive player than Fox so I dont know about your "top shelf" rationale.
LaVine is a solid player and I may bet on him over Zion straight up...
players redundant with Ellis..
How are these players affecting winning now to pay those 4 salaries?
No need for this

In addition, should Alvarado have much more value than ddr (and I’d rather have Devin)
Just not working at all

Kings offer DDR/Val/Spurs 27 unprotected/Minny 31 unprotected for Zion. That’s solid value based on the market Fox set.

Well it’s a ridiculous amount of picks for a ridiculous amount of talent so that checks out.
Just because Carter is included in a trade package doesn’t mean he is undervalued. That’s a lazy take. I was extremely high on Carter well before the Kings took him and I still to this day remain very high on him. He’s not undervalued.
Actually, most of the top advanced impact stats have LaVine and Fox about the same offensively, but you missed the key word there…potential. We’ve all seen the flashes from Fox, how he plays when angry, etc. He has the potential to be that player but the question was always can he consistently do it. LaVine doesn’t have that same offensive ceiling.
As for LaVine vs. Zion, I think most would agree that Zion’s offensive ceiling is substantially higher. It’s just about health with him.
Redundant with Ellis? Are you saying it’s a bad thing to have more players like Keon Ellis on this team? Maybe it’s just me but I would love to have multiple players like Keon Ellis on this team.
Why are you comparing Alvarado’s value to DeRozan’s value? They’re part of the larger trade package.

Did Zion publicly release that his preferred trade destination is Sacramento? Also, Zion has 3.5 years left on his contract compared to Fox’s 1.5 years. I think you’ll be disappointed if that’s your expectation.

If you weren't undervaluing Devin, I could have the argument I'd rather have his contract under control than Herbs two guaranteed years after this, because I think he has a lot more offensive 'upside' (even if Herb will probably remain the better player).. Yet it seems like he's just a throw in for good measure here..
LaVine may be a more secure option than Zion though, even as Zion's upside is far higher.. And what even is Zion's upside that he probably shouldn't be bet on to reach at this point? Bully ball without extensive playmaking/spacing? How is his fit defensively with Domas?
Ellis/Murphy/Jones - salary is finite. And paying all these guys solid role player rates, and having Ellis off the bench in your scenario when he should be starting and might be better than the other two just seems redundant.

Re: NOP - SAC (Kings Go All In)
If the Pelicans have to undergo yet another rebuild, Griffin isn't going to be the one to do it. Assuming he gets let go and his successor agrees, this needs a third team. Murray, LaVine, CJ, and DDR is just an an insane amount of money tied up in the backcourt.
Also, how does Monte survive this trade? He just traded for DDR and LaVine and now he's attaching a decade's worth of 1st round picks to them to build a better team that's still a tier below true contention.

Pelicans are getting 4 1st rounders and 4 bad swaps since at least spurs will be good for next 10 years even if it doesnt work for Kings.
Trey Murphy is worth 2 really good or 3-4 bad firsts alone.
Herb is worth at least 1 good first rounder or couple bad ones considering he has one one the best contracts in the league
Jose Alvarado has to be worth late 1st rounder or 2-3 2nds.
Lavine, Derozan and Carter have 0 value here, i personaly think they are negative, but cant argue if you say they are neutral.
That leaves Zion Williamson. This basicly has him going to Sac for nothing. I would rather keep him on the roster and be good if he is healthy or be bad if he is not, then have Lavine and Derozan and be 10th seed for couple years...
Depending on which pick Pels get this year, i think we would be open to move Zion for right price(not great, but solid return), but trading both Herb and Trey is not an option unless its significant overpay.

I think what you're trying to say is:
Pelicans get best of ("TWolves" and "worst of (Spurs / Kings)")
That pick can be either best of the 3 (if TWolves pick is best) or the one in the middle (otherwise).

Re: NOP - SAC (Kings Go All In)
This is a foolish knee jerk reaction to a single game.
There is no world where Zion has any more than neutral value.
Trey is nice but a rotational player on a top team.
Herb is injured and a year and a half from being himself again at best (that’s how long shoulders take to fully heal).
Alvarado is only starting because he is the only option left healthy. He’s a scrapper hustler on a decent team and might not even see the floor on a really good team unless there’s injury.
The talent going out is at the least equivalent to what’s coming in yet we send basically every draft pick and swap available for an overpriced and perpetually broken player and guys who no longer necessarily fit.
No thanks. I’ll wait and see how things go after a full camp and off season moves before this desperation.

They’ll still have some win now vets left over like Murray, McCollum, LaVine, and DeRozan who they can look to move over time when teams become desperate enough to give up value for them or could be used as large expiring contracts over the coming years.
PG - Murray / Carter
SG - McCollum / Hawkins / Reeves
SF - LaVine
PF - DeRozan
C - Missi / Olynyk / Matkovic

Or they can be bad with him playing. Their record has been just as disgusting with him, In this latest back to back with the Kings I actually thought the Pels were better the game without him. And while being able to tank with him on the roster may be a positive to you, its not a selling point. Zach's efficiency has been tremendous for his scoring volume, which is why he was targeted, and is probably the more secure player one to one

Did Zion publicly release that his preferred trade destination is Sacramento? Also, Zion has 3.5 years left on his contract compared to Fox’s 1.5 years. I think you’ll be disappointed if that’s your expectation.
You think he gets more than 2 unprotected and useful players?
Well not all unprotected 1sts are created equal. The two you are sending are belonging to teams who have young, rising superstars. A future unprotected SAC pick would be worth more, but I think Zion is probably getting at least 3 1sts (Or Carter and 2 1sts) but wouldn’t be overly surprised if he returned a 4th asset as well.

I think you read it wrong.
It lists 6 1sts, 3 swaps, and Devin Carter (worth a 1st). However, I agree that LaVine and DeRozan wouldn’t return much.
