To me, the time to trade him a 10 days ago but the team was too focused on a stupid short-sighted fantasy Jimmy Butler trade and not Durant. If they would have spent like 30-40% of the time on Durant and only 60-70% of the time on Butler, might have got a pretty stout deal for Durant.

I am going to be cautiously optimistic the Suns get a good solid deal for Durant.

They HAD a trade for him... to the Warriors...agreed by both parties. With Miami as well.

We were getting Kuminga, Butler and picks. 2 firsts and like 2 seconds.

Durant rejected it. So I'm guessing you don't remember any of this.....?

While I dont think we needed to make the trade. You cant say that, while at the same time you're preaching to take whatever the 1st offer is for Durant.

Either you value him or you don't. If you value him, then stop saying we should just take whatever for him.

Minnesota desperately needs to make a big move! And it just so happens that their franchisee star player Ant adores KD! We can add Minnesota to the KD list this summer, And the Wolves can give us one of two possible packages:

1- KD for Randle/ Reid/ Dillingham/ DET 25' 1st (17th pick) / MIN 32' 1st.
2- KD for Mcdaniels/ Reid/ DiVencenzo/ Shannon Jr/ Minott/ MIN 32' 1st.

Although it likely won't matter now as come summertime, Minnesota as a 2nd apron team won't be able to aggregate salaries in a trade, just like us! So there likely won't be a mechanism for us to get those player packages. :-?

Wouldn't describe our defense as regression. Fall off a cliff is a better description

I actually believe they're referring to the Wolves defensive regression in addition to their offense not being strong enough even with Ant to put them in a position to be a legitimate playoff threat after how strong there defense was last year and their much better offense prior to the KAT / Randle trade. It only makes sense as Conley's older, and Gobert and Randle are not serious offensive threats that can help Edward's. He really doesn't have a solid # 2 sidekick option now.

Not too sure why their defense regressed a bit though? But both of these considerations only play to our favor for Minnesota to be another possible KD trade destination to drive up value somewhat in a bidding war hopefully? Also it doesn't hurt that ANT idolizes him either...lol.

Ah my bad.

The Wolves could use KD's offense. They got by pretty well with a #16 offense last season by having an elite #1 rated defense. This season they are down to #6th in defense (still damn good) but despite their offense having moved up in rankings (#13), their offensive rating is actually down 1.3pts per 100. Julius Randle has always had suspect defense to me and KAT's underrated, I think you could probably explain a lot of that defensive regression on the change in personnel in the front court.

No worries it happens with all of us, especially me as I tend to rush things when trying to multitask too much...lol! Anyways, I see Minnesota as a very viable destination due to Ants' infatuation/ idolization of KD and in kind how KD views ANT as one of these NBAs' premiere future superstars! Both have low-key expressed interest in playing together. And considering their offensive struggles, KD seems like a no-brainer! Also, it would work pretty perfectly for him wedged between two great defenders in Gobert and McDaniels. Meaning he really wouldn't have to expend much if any energy on the defensive end with those two high-end defenders allowing him to focus solely on his offensive mastery.

Now I say the premise of KD playing between those two players from the lens of Minnesota preferring to swap KD for an outgoing package of Randle/ Reid/ Dillingham jr/ DET 25' 1st ( 17th pick)/ MIN 32' 1st. I know that BWgood has premised a McDanieels/ Reid/ DiVincenzo/ filler/ picks package that is of course damn enticing! But I don't at all dislike the Randle/Reid package because Randle would give us a dominant inside presence and strong, physical rebounder that would also give us a $30 million expiring asset. And Naz Reid would give us a high-end backup 4/5. And finally, Rob Dillingham could be mentored by Beal since he'll still be here for a minute with us for at least two more seasons. Or because he's an intriguing young recent top-10 lottery talent, we could look to trade him in another deal for players/ draft picks. Ultimately though, a lot will be predicated upon BOTH Randles' and Reids' Player options. because it'd obviously affect the DT 25' 1st in the deal. And may force us to wait until after they pick up their players' options to be eligible for trade.

Neither BWgood nor I have an answer to whether or not they can legally be traded, and how soon they can pick up their player options if they do, how soon they can be traded after. I have a feeling they might not be able to be traded until after the draft once free agency opens. And that we might have to wait till the trade deadline to do this trade which would obviously affect the value perception from both sides. For Minnesota if thy get under a year of KD under contract, and for us IF it can't happen until after the draft, meaning we'd lose out on that 25' 1st for pick value as they have all ost nothing else to offer. :dontknow:

Either way, I'm not a fan of Randle. I think he can be really good but I don't love his contract (up for an extension) nor his style of basketball. I would definitely prefer the trade that doesn't get us Randle

I get what you're saying, and the McDaniels/ Reid/ DiVincenzo/fillers/picks trade is very enticing. But I think you'd have to ask yourself if Minnesota would trade McDaniels and keep Randle just to have KD play at the SF. And Randle would clog up the paint alongside of Gobert because neither are floor spacers. They want to get off of Randles' money but also not have to gut their roster further by having to give up more pieces in Divincnzo and fillers just to be able to match salary. Randle would be the intended big contract for matching purposes and to also only give up 3 players instead of 5 to match for KD. But also to keep the floor open for KD and flank KD with strong defenders in McDaniels and Gobert for better spacing and balance.

For us, I don't care much about Randle's money situation as he'll be a $30 million expiring for us to reduce our cap line or trade him for other players/ draft assets. Then we keep Reid and also trade Dillingham for more players/ draft assets. But Randle likely won't be staying with us long enough for anyone to have concerns over fit or his contract. I'm mainly doing this for Randle ($30 million expiring/ Naz Reid (perfect backup 4/5)/ Dillingham (young asset)/ DET 25' 1st (17th pick)/ MIN 32' 1st (future lottery pick). These are my interests with the Minnesota trade. :D

Thought about it some more, if the picks and players other than McDaniels/Randle are about equivalent, I probably would just take Randle to let him expire. I generally don't like to take on impactful players and let them expire but I think McDaniels is a bit overpaid. He's suppose to be an elite 3&D guy and defensively he's all there but offensively he's been a pretty inconsistent shooter. Only one season near 40% from 3 and the rest are below league average. He's not 25 yet but he's getting into his prime basically now and he's still only shooting under 34% and on low volume.

Again, I don't like to let players with trade value expire (unlike Micic/Cody) but if it's between that and taking on a player in year 1 of a 5 year deal that's still owed $110m over 4 years, I probably just take the savings.

Sounds like ASW was a failure as usual. Watched a bit of Saturday events on replay and only memorable out of it is the G league guy winning the dunk contest for 3rd consecutive time, which was pretty good and Wemby/CP cheating, which was really bad.

Yeah! Too much pageantry and over saturated dramatization and not nearly enough actual basketball substance. Also the allstar tournament only going to 40 was sad, and the Shaq vs Barkley OGs championship tournament was a typical snoozefest of no defense, no effort, just looked like a game of horse or a 3 point shooting pickup game. I feel sorry for anyone that actually paid money for tickets to it.

What a freaking disappointment. :-?

1) I am not saying take whatever for him - I am saying lower expectations

2) the reason it was a terrible trade as it didn't help the team where it needs the most help - cap space and the apron levels. Butler would have just tied up the same dollars that Durant did. The Suns need to move away from the Big 3 and operate under the apron levels. Plus Butler is old --- so he plays good for a few games with the Warriors - that will fizzle out. The Suns need to get YOUNGER, not OLDER

All Star game and weekend is a joke. And that is not a hyperbole.

It is an absolute mockery of the game, with hack celebrities, hack influencers (society is really bad when you have influencers) playing like hacks to entertain a bunch of hacks (with money or those skipping rent to attend this hack fest).

The players union should be made to force their members to accept that All Star attendees must play to their expected performance both ends or they simply forfeit their spots and let someone else play who will.

And no, USA vs The World won't save it nor would it be suitable since we have Fiba and Olympics for that, where players play for their countries and not force rivals (France, Spain, Serbia etc) to play with each other against the All mighty USA team... which degrades the other nations.

I have league pass and skipped the entire weekend. And I am ashamed to admit I only kept my league pass accidentally as I forgot to cancel it at the start of the season and realised it 2 months in... so might as well have my dad use it since he's bored. But last time I pay NBA games. Free streams here I come for good.

The all-star game is pointless at this point. The players have disrespected the game and the fans far too long. These players have no pride or competitive fire anymore.

The dunk contest was suppose to be seeing the top stars going against each other. Now it’s a bunch of people who can barely make an NBA roster. Same goes with the 3pt contest.

The players basically spit on the fans during their “all-star BREAK”.

The new generation NBA star is now entitled and lazy. The game has been dumbed down because these current generation players only know 3 point shots and layups.

The game from 20-30 years ago was a chess match. Now the NBA is speed checkers seeing who can eat the checkers faster. Players don’t fight though injuries, take rest days off, and think they control the rosters.

Yeah I still watch the game today but it’s definitely less skilled and less exciting to watch then years past. Viewership has been trending down for nearly two decades and the NBA cant figure out why or how to get these players to care. And the answer to the problem is never going to be fixed at this point unfortunately.
I am such a lucky NBA fan. 8647 My favorite team went from the most greedy and racist owner to the most ego driven dumbass owner in all of sports fdt.

Only a fan of Arizona teams!

Butler for KD was a lateral move. What we give up in scoring we’d gain in a big pair of nuts. Palatable and spin able to Wishbia’s win now mode. It’s dead and need not be a barometer for anything.

Nothing else presented is anything but downgrade and a draft pick dice roll. Can’t do that unless we have our picks…. which are very likely lottos if we light the fuse.

Houston specifically traded for them. Those things aren’t coming back easy and certainly not as a full set. May be they got a line on KD, and may be he says trade me…. It has happened before.

Wishbia didn’t exactly care about those picks anyway. Now they can only confirm his blunder. Bet he runs it back, but again, it might be KDs move to make. I don’t see him shttting on Book if an honest attempt to improve is made.

I’ll say it, we are better off being patient than knee jerking a deal. The same conversations can happen next December if the brainuntrust can’t put the right talent, team and coach out.

Not saying he deserves to go or not but what would you have done with the ASG?

That's a good point about the USA vs World thing. I've been a huge fan of that idea actually but I never had considered what you said about rivalries between other nations. They no doubt have intense ones that have been going on for decades

The only thing that saves NBA all-star weekend is east vs west game for home court advantage in the NBA finals.
