A lot of people hating on this kid like all he can do is dunk. He's actually a really good basketball player, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the league very soon.

As numerous have mentioned, he already is, unless you meant consistently.

Well after his agent and probably personal trailer, nutritionist & taxes. He is probably making under 100,000.
Agents only get 3% in NBA related contracts. Taxes. He's on a two-way with Orlando (no-state income tax for at least half the games). Nutritionist, he's still a part of the Orlando Magic organization. I'm pretty sure he's not making under 100. If someone is making 500K and their take home pay was under 100K, that literally makes no sense.
Here is an example of a players salary breakdown:
Jayson Tatum:
$62.8 million: Annual Salary
$23.2 million: Federal Taxes
$4.7 million: Jock Tax (imposed by various states and cities)
$8.1 million: Escrow and Agent Fees
$1.4 million: FICA/Medicare Deductions
Its also been reported Chris Paul spends about $1 million on body maintenance ranging from trainers, nutritionists, massage therapists. Despite having access to team facilities. LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Damian Lillard, Enes Kanter and former basketball player Dwayne Wade are just some of the NBA players known to have personal chefs.
Damn that tuff I did the math it’s actually 25.4 million a year after all the deductions I be AD is gonna be living the tax break in Dallas vs Los Angeles

You just listed about 50% of taxes/agent fees.
Your original post saying he makes 100K out of 500K would equate to about 80% of his salary going to taxes/agents etc..
50% is an enormous difference to 80%.
One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

No i said it would also be going to personal trainers and nutritionist/personal chef. Probably paying for a shooting coach. Also has to pay rent for an apartment.

I could go either way on McClung but IMO he’s not the issue with the dunk contest. The problem is that we want to see the top dunkers compete, of which Mac is one, Andre Jackson and Castle are not. We need to see Ant, Giannis, Jaylen Brown

Count me in the camp that thinks they should let a bunch of street ballers that can throw down crazy dunks be the dunk contest.
Would be more entertaining than limiting it to good dunkers that also have NBA talent.

I understand a NBA star not wanting to compete with him.
It's an unfair game.

big respect to Mcclung he's a hell of a dunker, nothing against him but the point was watching stars compete in the dunk contest and not a bunch of nobodies who aren't actually NBA players, it's just ridicilous. no1 wants to watch that...
Dunk League was exactly that. It was more entertaining than the NBA contests (2016 and Vince excepted).
Mac could compete in that league, but I doubt he'd be the favorite.
much better than even Vince and 2016

Correct.

10% agent...50% taxes...no way in hell are the others making that kinda money.

Tatum is not making anything close to 62.8m

He won G-League MVP, so he must be doing something right.
There was an interview from Caruso, talking about when he was trying to make it into the League.
He was in the GLeague and once Sam Presti came and told the team one thing that opened his eyes: you guys must understand for what job you're auditioning for. Nobody is looking for their star here, nobody cares if you score 30. We want to understand if you can fit as the 10th man in the rotation, defending and playing off the stars.

I'm against McClung in the dunk contest, but he isn't just some dunker.
In the grand scheme of things he's a very good basketball player. He was the MVP of the G-League last year averaging 25/5/7 on 50/40/85 shooting splits.

MVP of the G league should make much more. They need to turn it into a legit B league like soccer has.

Union Dues and NBAPA retirement plan (mandatory) is pretty steep. Not sure of exact % though.Chuck Everett wrote:Jcool0 wrote:Chuck Everett wrote:

Re: Mac McClung has made more money from the dunk contest than his NBA career
Everyone bitching about McClung not being an NBA player strangely have nothing to say about guys like Juan Toscano or Cassius Stanley who have competed and are out of the NBA without 12 months of their contest lol.
McCLung has a contract with the Orlando Magic. He is currently an NBA player. It is what it is.
I'd rather watch a fringe NBAer have cool dunks than watch Obi Toppin win.

Hate to change rules based on just 1 player, but they really should have some sort of min games played requirement for getting invites to all-star weekend. He technically is on an nba roster, but dude has played in 5 NBA games over 3 years. Can't blame him for taking advantage of his 15 minutes of fame, but I don't think this is what fans really want.
