None of these guys are going to hit that megastar of appeal on and off the court like the personalities associated with being the face of the league. It’s not something you slowly grow into and earn. It happens near instantly and carries from basically the very early stages of their career.

Edit: Cooper is a wait and see I suppose, but I doubt it.

Do you agree with Mitchell's opinion?

Is this guy only 500 days younger than a guy who already has 3 MVPs?

I'm asking for a friend of mine.

would be my guess for 5 years from now

Ja and Ant perhaps but I feel like there are red flags with those guys.

I know Tatum is your favorite player, but I just cant imagine him as face of the league. Neither do Morant or Mitchell.

It will probably be Victor, Luka in LA, and some guy we haven't even heard of yet.

Forget about Mictchell's talent, he will be 33 years old in 5 years.

He has no chance to become one of NBA's biggest faces.

Shaq and Duncan were the faces of NBA during the 1990s (with Jordan) & 2000s.

Sorry. I’d argue MJ was the face of the league throughout the entirety of the 90s, even after he retired for a few years. Just my humble opinion. And I’d argue Lebron has been the face of the league by the end of his rookie year.

And DM isn't worthy to shine either of their SHOES, so what does it matter "How old Mike or Lebron were" as face of the game? He's not even in that ORBIT...

If Mitchell were ever going to be the face of the league, he already would be.

So, lol.

Makes sense not to include Jokic, even if you think he will still be great then. He just doesn't want to be the face of the league. I wouldn't even call him the face of the league now and he's hands down the best player in the world. Wemby will be great and he has a more outgoing personality than Jokic, so he's probably a safe bet.

Mitchell is very confident if he includes himself. If you aren't really close to being the face of the league at age 28, it's probably not going to happen. I can see Ant. He has the talent and the personality. If Luka stays with the Lakers he's also a safe bet. The superstar of the Lakers is almost automatically one of the faces of the league. Don't know anything about Flagg.

SGA
Luka
Wemby
Ant
Tatum
maybe someone like Flagg who isn't in the league yet or another player who makes a huge jump

You are on the Cavaliers bro. You will never be the face of the conference, let alone the league.

I don’t know what Donovan Mitchell has done to you to make you speak of him as if he’s not an All NBA player. You’re talking about him like he’s Brian Scalabrine lol. I also don’t know why you’re harping on age either.

I think the bigger point is that right now there isn’t a clear cut face of the league, so until someone steps up and starts a run and dominates, it could any of a group of players.

Ant Man, yes, clear as day superstar.

Tatum and Mitchell are in their prime right now, and unless either of them has a James Harden esque peak, it is unlikely they will become a face of the league. Also Tatum and Mitchell are soft spoken, media trained, picture perfect “studious stars”. They don’t fool around and they aren’t “special” enough on the court to pull a Steph Curry.

SGA is one championship away from surpassing Luka.

Wemby, he seems a little too quiet. He doesn’t have the Ant man charisma. I don’t buy him being a vocal face of the league and see him closer to what Jokic is today for the NBA.

Ja Morant is an interesting one. He might be the most popular player with young NBA fans and that matters a ton. If Memphis starts winning rings he has a shot.

Luka is an obvious face of the league once he gets in shape and takes over the Lakers. He also has the fandom and personality to make it work.

Donovan mitchell is underrated on the board. Hes on the Lillard tier.

Lesser players like 1st two years Ben Simmons chicago prime Derrick Rose have gotten more hype and love by fans and media than mitchell.

He's already in every commercial and on every bag of chips at the grocery store haha. And the best seller of jerseys/merch after Bron and Steph (so, most popular younger guy). And a champion and good role model.

People seem to have different ideas of what "face of the league" means, but that's the stuff I'm thinking of, and he's already kinda doing it. Dude is everywhere.

Oh ok, thats good. I have never lived in US, so I don't really know that stuff, I used to see US commercials when I used pirated streams, and I don't anymore, have no clue who is what commercials. I always based this on Internet vibes, which is obviously hard to define, if I just talked with people about NBA, online or otherwise, I imagine Tatum would never really come up in the conversation, Victor, Jokic or Luka probably would. My friend who doesn't know much about Basketball, is now obsessed with Jokic, hes his guy. Out of American players, beside Steph and LeBron, Harden is pretty well know at least over here, thats the vibe, not always for best reasons, but he influenced the game a ton and he would get mentioned during EL broadcasts even - like oh, its a Harden move etc. Zion, Anthony Davis I imagine are well known.

I’m a Wolves fan and love ANT, but I think it’s basically impossible for him to become the best player in the league.

He’s 6’ 4”, and although he’s a playoff riser, he’s never hit a BPM of 4+ in the regular season.

He’s charismatic and super fun to watch, but is there even a 10% chance that he will ever be as good as Wemby is right now?
Also, something that might surprise people. I think when it comes to athleticism, agility, physical attributes and skill I rate LeBron only in the top 50.

Edwards isn't good enough to be the face of the league, the American narrative doesn't matter. He is clearly below Jokic, Luka, Shai, Giannis and Wemby. Likely below Tatum as well.

Hard to be considered the face of the league when there's 5 or 6 guys that are considered superior to you.

Yup. Beyond the questionable social stigmas he’s unfortunately earned, there’s this too.
