That's all, figured they deserved their own thread for the year they've been having and after their big win.

Iono about the bold portion. RJ Luis, Zuby Ejiofor, and Kadary Richmond (if he can make his FT’s consistently — and develop his 3PT shot to the point where he can make like 35% from behind the arc) all have a chance to be pros.

Zuby and RJ I can see being drafted. But Richmond has a pathway through the G League route.

Richmond is a triple double threat and he defends. Zuby’s motor and offensive rebounding are top 5 in the country. Plus he can switch and cover guards as a defender on the perimeter. RJ is a bonafide scorer, rebounds great for a wing, and is athletic. All three have legit size for their position with Richmond as a 6’6” bully ball point guard, RJ as a 6’7” SG/SF wing, and Zuby as a 6’9” PF with quick feet and a non-stop motor.

Then you have Simeon Wilcher, a 6’5” formerly highly recruited combo guard who can shoot, score off the bounce, and defend. Who’ll make the big leap next season in his Junior year similar to what we’re seeing right now from the above-mentioned 3 players.

As a team, St. John’s is the best man-to-man defensive squad in the country — and it’s not even close. Then when you factor in teams who play zone, they’re still ranked top 2 in the country.

They can’t shoot the 3 at all, and struggle with FT’s (which could prove to be their Achilles heel in the tournament) but they make up for it with a juggernaut switchable defense, they force turnovers, they run the floor and can finish with flair, and THEY PLAY HARD TOUGH NYC BASKETBALL.

They’re a throwback team that eschews the way modern analytics-driven basketball says you’re supposed to play to impact the win column.

Size wise, they have one of the biggest backcourts and wing combinations to throw at you in the country. And although they don’t start a big alongside Zuby, they do have a 6’10 Portuguese PF Ruben Prey off the bench who plays spot mins and can switch onto any defender (including guards) just like Zuby. His foot speed and agility are off the charts. All he does is defend! But he has no offensive game.

They also have Vince Iwuchukwu, a 7’1” backup C who blocks shots, defends and runs the floor while having good hands. His weakness is he is very low IQ and turns it over a lot. So they only play him when they need to throw in another big to match-up with big teams.

Lastly, two oft-overlooked players to complete their puzzle are Aaron Scott (another 6’8” 3nD wing) who does all the little things — the intangibles — that can stick the 3, while being streaky, but he can guard anyone 2-through-4.

With the final guy being 6’0” speedy point guard Deivon Smith, who’s been coming off the bench after returning from injury. But he has blazing speed, a 42+” vertical, can rebound like a demon despite his size, and is a triple-double threat (he had 6 last season before he transferred to the Red Storm). He is the inspiration of the team who gets them going.

I would not be surprised at all if they make a Final Four run due to all the factors mentioned, as well as the Rick Pitino factor. Whom I don’t view as a low character man. Listen to the people who talk that actually know him or played for him, not just sensationalized media reports. He was absolved of any responsibility regarding the past scandal. It’s unfair to keep a cloud over his head when he was eventually exonerated and fully cleared.

This man has SJU 12-1 in Big East Conference play, 21-3 overall, and with their 3 losses combined totaling a mere 5 point differential. Essentially they lost three close, down-to-the wire heartbreakers. And they were all very early in the season and they’ve learned and grown from those defeats. 10 wins in a row and counting!

I love Rick Pitino. Even when he coached the Knicks he was the truth. Spent only 1 season in NY and went 52-30. Led the league and broke record for 3’s in an era when no one was shooting them.

Also implemented a full court press and trap when teams in the NBA don’t defend that way.

I started following St. Hohn’s basketball since Frankie Alagia played. Louie was the best! Though he may have been coaching the Nets in the ABA then. I was at BC when St. John had Wennington, George Johnson … I hated that team. Especially Wennington
