Michael Scotto: Wizards will sign Jaylen Nowell to 10-day contract
Welcome back, Jaylen. He was with the team during the summer and training camp. He’s been playing well with the GO-GO.

He’s had some games with the GoGo, his 25.2 points per game is on a scorching-hot .527/.515/.929 shooting line across 20 contests (34.3 MPG)

Strange. We have more guards that we have minutes available (Poole, Carrington, Brogdon, Smart, Kispert, Johnson, Jones and Coulibaly).
If we need any warm bodies, it's at the PF position. With Kuzma gone, we don't really have any 6-8/6-9 mobile guys who can man the PF position defensively and guard bigger guys like Tatum, Giannis and Randolph. All we have are centers are thin-framed small forwards like George, Middleton and Coulibaly.
With Vukcevic back in the rotation, maybe we will we see Sarr at PF a little bit since Vukcevic can stretch the floor from the center position.

I don't get this. We already have a full 15-man roster. & we already have the max three 2-way players.
So... how is it that we get to sign someone to a 10-day deal? Someone please explain.

They waived Alex Len.

They're just greedy, hoarding guards. I think they're testing out a prospect they think is poised to do something. Same way they turned Jared Butler into a trade asset by bringing him up for a few tryouts before they signed him to that 2-way. Nowell has been playing well for the G squad this year. Our Go-Go team seems to develop players well, at least at the guard position. Calling him up on a 2-way means there's more cross-pollination and synergy with the squad. And you figure players like AJJ and Colby Jones will bounce back and forth to the G as well, so any of them can be ready for action. If Nowell is up on a 10 day then one of them can get minutes in his place down in the G.

Well deserved. He's been going great with the GoGos.
What are we going to do with all these SG's, combo-guards, and PGs???

Glad for him, he's been playing well, nice to see them reward a player like that.
Personally, I would of preferred them keeping Cissoko.
Not sure why they didn't bring him in to see what he could do before they just cut him. He looked like a good prospect with the Ignite.

I'm not excited nor do I care about any 25 year old 10 day contract from the d league we are far from the point where getting value off a 25 year old steady 14th man from the G league one a 2 way or 10 day matters. I can about the 20 year old call ups with potential

I think it’s about rewarding their GoGo players for playing well by getting them paid extra $$$ at an NBA rate.
G League pays only like 40k. For 4-5 months. A 10 day contract pays $65-190k depending on how veteran you are.
Nowell likely doubled his yearly take in that 10 day stretch. Nice gesture by the team to value the contributions of players who earned the top record n the standings. And put some zeroes behind that value.

Yeah maybe. I’d rather have kept that French guy Siddy Suckcocko or whatever his name is. Right up there with Laundry Hamper and Captain Baltche

Fair enough--my point is I'd rather keep these young guys than retreading 25 year olds. But maybe the FO thinks we have enough 19 year olds at this point?

I'm the other way. Our GoGo squad seems like it has become a guard academy. We develop them and get them paid. Jared Butler is the latest example, you don't see teams getting value from trading a 2-way player. We shipped him for a first round pick. Smart use of the resource and roster spot.
The fact that we routinely cycle players in and out of 10-days at the end of the season provides stability and pays players for their loyalty. Most G League squads have a mess of turnover from year to year. Seems like we tend to have less churn. It provides a good environment for passing on team principles and keeping a level of competitiveness at the lower level so if we do send a guy down for seasoning they are joining a team that plays the right way, instead of a disjointed squad where players are solely gunning for stats trying to get noticed.
Jaylen Nowell is a 6 year vet. Could have gone overseas for a contract. Instead he plays for 40k on the chance he gets noticed. He never got called back up, but helped our squad to a top record. East player of the month, consistently playing well at the G level. So they reward him with a 10-day that will pay him triple his G league salary. Thank you for your work. Hell, at least some players in this organization are learning to win. If we had vets already I bet it would have benefitted our Rooks to drop down to the GoGo and get a taste of being competitive. Seems like it has helped Vuk a bit. Jared Butler. Champagnie for sure. And the success of guys like Champ' and Butler provide examples to the rest of the team: hustle your a55 off and play the right way and you can get called up for the big dollars. The Wiz take care of their own.
Now it's Erik Stevenson, 2nd leading scorer, and solid provider at that level. I won't be surprised to see RJ Nembhard called up before the season is out. Seems like just generous and thoughtful management to put a little extra $ in the pockets of your practice squad and sparring partners. We may not have space for them all at the end of the bench, less opportunity for a real call up, but having traded Butler, we had a spot open to shuffle around. Reward loyalty, spread the word this is a class organization who even treats the minor league players well, maintain good relations with player's agents. Seems a positive to me.
