The step down from open to tight is pretty large and other shooters aren't nearly that big of a drop.

Tight is such a small sample though and pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things

Eh it's still 14% of his 3p shots. if he shot similar to the other guys it would take it from 34.5% to 37%. His year looks better.

Obviously he has to improve more on the "open".

I still seen signs of optimism. The wide open shows he has range and the ability.

I appreciate you guys breaking this down.

Odd though how some think he never hits the wide open ones yet it's almost 50%

I think it's because he is very inconsistent/ streaky. The frequency of shooting 25% or less in a game is quite high. Good shooting nights seem to be 50/50 with him. Hopefully this improves with experience/ age.

I think a year or so ago I was curious and looked up JJ Reddick's game logs and game to game there was high variance.

Unless you're elite like Curry, Ray Allen, etc there might be more variance.

It would be interesting to see variance on wide open 3's.

Yeah, the obvious takeaways here are that we need to scheme to get him as open as possible (duuuuhh) and that he needs to work out his shot when the defender is a little closer. Tight, very tight... not his game, and that's fine. That's not really the diet of shots we want from him at this time anyway. We're scheming for ball movement to hit him at the end of the passing chain, so he SHOULD be primarily getting fed open and wide-open catch-and-shoots, as he's getting now. The ability is there. We can see it on the wide open shots and his FTs. Dude has touch. Now he needs to slow it down for himself, work on his body for other parts of his game, and just focus on development inside our scheme.

The way Trey Murphy is lighting up, he might want to watch how that dude gets all his hella-open 3s.

He needs to improve more on the "open" or the team needs to have someone who can create and shift the defense for getting "open"? Or I suppose both.

This is what I hope for with our PG to get open looks for the others (instead of just a connector), but neither Quickley nor Barnes can do that. My only hope is Shead?

I think it really highlights how rare it is to find a blend of physical tools and skill, honestly. Gradey should eventually be better when he grows into his body some, for sure. NBA-level training regimens and diets will help if he pays attention to staff, but that doesn't necessarily come very quickly.

Scottie's got size, but he's missing mobility tools, shooting touch and other things which we usually see developed much, much earlier on. He's a big boy, but that goes only so far with scoring ability.

So what you're saying is, that we need to find some dragonball z level fusion technique for the 2 of them.

This has all nba 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team written all over it. First player in NBA history to be on all 3 teams in the same season.

I know it's satire, but he shoots way different in practise vs game.

In game it looks like he's rushing his shots. I'd love to see a video break down of his makes and misses. Hopefully shot prep and strength is something he really works on this summer.

I agree. I think it adds more credence to the theory that it's mental with him. There's an ease and fluidity to his jump shot that we see here.

Not sure how I can possibly track it, but from my eye test, when we're blowing teams out (or more often getting blown out) I feel like his shot falls a bit more. Like the pressure is off and he can mentally release.

(god there's so much innuendo in that...)

I would fuse Mogbo + Gradey, Scottie with Battle, Shead with IQ, RJ with Ochai

Jakob Poeltl
Scottie Battle / Chris Boucher
Brandon Ingram / RJ Agbaji
Gradey Mogbo / Ja’Kobe
Immanuel Shead

Add in the 2025 picks and that’s a championship team

RJ Agbaji would be pretty awesome, likely an allstar and should start. Gradey Mogbo may still not be able to hit open 3s consistently lol.

I would fuse Poeltl with Chomche too, could be a beast.

The chance he becomes a rotation player is low. The defense is really bad. I was initially a fan but he didn't improve on that end at all from his rookie year. If he can't improve from a rookie to sophomore year on defense it probably will never happen.

More like he gets more open shots against less degree of defense.
Our offense just isn't good enough to compensate his defense, and he no long passing out, which is kind of contradict to the "sharing" style that we emphasis from previous years.
