I'm not here to besmirch John Salmons -- and I'd add that we traded him for positive value so it wasn't even like his salary was a hindrance for us.

However he never reached the heights he showed in the FTD season again that's for sure.

Imagine the extra contract year motivation mixed with the awesome chemistry that team developed for that couple month push.

KPJ is a different situation since he's still young but already had a season where he averaged 19 ppg albeit on a garbage team.

For him the talent has always been there it's everything else that's been the problem.

He's the youngest player in NBA history to drop 50 points and 10 assists (against the Bucks) before he was 21.

Only 24 years old now but with his career on the brink (for very good reason).

All the minutes he could handle are available if he seizes the opportunity.

Maybe he thrives (or at least returns to career norms) with a more consistent role here?

Porter Jr. is posting some of his worst stats this season now as a reserve for the first time since his rookie year.

In just 20 minuters per game, his 9.3 points are about 10 points less than two years ago — his last NBA season — when he set a career-high 19.2 points. His free-throw shooting has dropped dramatically this season at 64.5%. It's about 14 points worse than the 2022-23 season.

His 24.5% three-point shooting is also a career low.

For his career, Porter is averaging 14.2 points on 43.0% from the field, 34.8% from three-point range, 71.7% from the free-throw line, along with 4.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists.

From memory this was against a Jrue and Donte

KPJ clearly has always had the talent but good lord does he need to drill those step-back long 2's out of his shot diet. Think he's just another example of us getting overly excited about any kind of young-ish player that shows an ounce of athleticism/quickness and on-ball scoring potential. We'll see but I'm not holding my breath.

Hopefully he's young enough to mold by some good coaching... unlike some older, stubborn vet

I get that he was a disappointment but Delon Wright doesn't deserve this kind of disrespect, man.

That’s pretty much what Lawrence Frank said in the nicest possible way post trade, right? Doubt Doc is the guy to make this happen.

Kuz and KPJ both got engaged over the break. I guess when you join the family organization, you have to lock it down

I don't think it's Doc necessarily, but someone got Giannis to stop barreling fools over.. I never thought that would stop... whoever that genius is, I hope they are in KPJ and Kuz's ear

All for it if it works and Horst can turn poop into a diamond, but here we are resting our season on Kevin Porter Jr. this isn’t the same as the finishing trades of the past (Mirotic, Tucker)

I think we all (or most) have realistic views on KPJ. We picked him up for crapola. Anything we get out of him is gravy.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Haynes

Veteran guard Dennis Smith Jr. is leaving Real Madrid and intends to make a return to the NBA this season, league sources tell me.

Nah. I love the idea of KPJ reaching his potential but he has never been on a team that has won more than 20 games. To win we need Dame to play at a championship level. We need Kuzma to remember the defensive effort it took to win that Lakers chip. We need the return of Champion Bobby, Bobby, Bobby! Gary Trent Jr needs to keep showing how much he wants it and build on his playoff experience. Prince to bring his energy and effort and hit his shots from his spots. If Dairy Bird can bring his inner Forbes out and get us to the second round. And I don’t know how but we need PJ Tucker to take a buyout and be an assistant coach and a voice in the locker room and yell at Doc just like he did Bud and call out the other teams plays as they bring the ball up…
If Porter can be the guy that steps up in those gaps when other guys struggle then fantastic!
