Tramadol never used to be in this category. I know I've had to take hydrocodone and painkillers for 30 plus years. You better off taking Tylenol PM then you are tramadol. All that stuff does is give you a freaking headache. There's no performance enhancing with that . Seriously if he wanted to get in trouble for taking painkillers it should hell wouldn't be that one.

Unless there is a big part of the story not being released -- which is very possible -- the extent of the punishment seems insane.

If it was only once and there wasn't much tramadol in his system at the worst possible time to receive a random test that'd be very different then if he was clearly abusing it.

I totally believe Bobby. And I'm tired of all the hate on Bobby, everybody complains about his defense pretty sure it's better with him on the court than without.

So Doc is forced to play a bunch of Kuzma/Giannis at PF/C? Seems like a neat way to get up to speed on the main playoff pairing. Dame/Green/Dre/Kuz/Giannis. Make it happen

Of course there is a backstory that isn't being released. What you're seeing publicly is probably the plea bargain.

If Bobby is just taking some Tramadol on the side for pain, there is no way he's getting a 25 game suspension. Bucks ownership would be all over objecting to that.

So many questions… I believe it’s not being taken for performance enhancing purposes. While studies show it helps cyclists, it’s like a 1% benefit (enough to matter in cycling but not really an NBA game).
Why is Bobby’s assistant also seemingly a pharmacist too and how is better attention not being paid to what he’s ingesting?
I kinda believe the story this was a mistake. No way an nba athlete would be stupid enough to do this deliberately

?????

I had back surgery earlier this year. Tramadol absolutely helped with the pain and relaxed me to a point where I was able to sleep. If you have been taking hydro for 30+ years, it would make sense that Tramadol had little effect. I have taken Oxy/Hyrdo before for other injury recovery/surgeries and that stuff is wild!

Occam's razor says the official story is probably true and this is just shocking because it's our first exposure to the new CBA's
draconian drug punishments

Then we should be seeing another 10-12 guys have suspensions laid down.

Alternate universe Occam's razor says nobody gets 25 games for just this. Especially if your owner is Wes Edens, athletic performance freak and your agent is Mark Bartelstein.

so you think he was caught taking an entirely different drug or smth like that? I don't see how it makes any sense to assume that's a more likely scenario than the official story

According to the CBA, the first violation is 25 games, the second is 55. I don't believe it can be bargained down and I don't believe there's some nefarious backstory here, 25 is what's called for and that's what he got.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Dos that mean Kuzma doesn’t start? I mean if Kuzma/Giannis/Brook starts then you have your backup C (Giannis) and backup PF (Kuzma) both starting.

Kuzma (12)/Prince (24)/Trent (12)
Giannis (24)/Kuzma (24)
Brook (36)/Giannis (12)

The good stuff is more opportunity to test the small ball Giannis at C with Kuzma at PF lineups. Then you only have Lopez to slow down the pace.

On the other hand I’m afraid this pushes Doc play Kuz/Giannis/Brook too much. I just don’t want to experience a 3rd season in a row with no Giannis in the playoffs.

Maybe he was playing the new season of Overwatch and got too excited. The current event is called "Perked Up."

Henson's max vert was only 30" FWIW

Didn’t Henson have an insane wingspan?

Brook playing 36 is insanity. But yeah, they’ll likely still start Brook/Giannis/Kuz and pull Brook very quickly to then get into the rotations from there.

Can play Trent and AJG together some to eat some SF minutes.

Sims and Smith should both get a look at a few minutes per game in Bobby’s absence to see if one of them can step up. Although with Doc, who knows if they even see the floor.

Oh you can absolutely take it to the bank that this means Doc is gonna run Brook into the ground now. Silver lining could be that we see more Giannis/Kuzma frontcourt minutes, but will Doc actually use them more in the playoffs when Bobby's back? We'll see.

Look at Tennis and Sinner’s case. The other side of the coin is not handing out punishment or take forever to investigate and the players keep contributing to winning. We’d be complaining about that if Derrick White was given 2 games or if there was a violation and they took the whole season to investigate it and give him a punishment during the offseason that kicks in a the beginning of next year.

The International Testing Agency has a web page devoted to Tramadol.

https://ita.sport/news/tramadol-the-wada-2024-prohibited-list/

One question is whether this was detected in random testing or if the Chilean theft ring that ransacked his house took a bunch of pills from him also, and the pills were recovered and reported to authorities.

He tested positive for it.

It's a pretty big assumption that he believed a painkiller would provide performance-enhancing benefit for him, as opposed to him having taken a painkiller because he had pain.

The suspension is harsh but the blame goes solely to the club, this isn't Bobbys fault. Bucks need clear protocols to prevent mistakes like this happening
