25 games is normal for a first time offense? I don't think so, otherwise we would be seeing more suspensions. Then again, I've certainly been wrong before.
It qualifies under the “SPED” program, so a first violation is 25 games. Steroids, performance enhancing, diuretics, and masking agents…
Drugs of abuse have a treatment program. Marijuana used to have a 5 game suspension (then 10, 15, 20, etc) but was largely eliminated in this newest CBA.
Thank you. It just didn't seem like the story by his agent aligned with the punishment? so wanted to double-check,.. =]
So, yes. The thing is that the nba will NEVER officially announce which drug they found. They’ll never deny a public statement from the player that violated. They are required by confidentiality to not speak publicly or confirm or deny the specifics of the case. So, we all have only the offender to hear from. And whatever they say is all we have to go on. So, there’s absolutely no assurance that this is what really happened, as much as what Portis and his agent have come up with as their “believable story”.
