I kinda hinted at this, sans #s, in a vc thread asking if we should we let him run the show more. Was after a game where the pnr with him and Luke, I believe, was super effective. And it was the 2nd or 3rd game in a stretch where it stood out. Much, much better than his Abe Simpson hat drives of olde.

Obviously the volume numbers pale compared to SGA and Brunson, but I can squint and see a Brunson lite in Payton. Which is something I never thought I’d even think, much less say publicly.

Delon and short of it is, we were wright to keep him.

Another sizzling bag from 8 Mile.

28 points .

Definitely gone past Jrue in terms of importance to our team

When he was a sophomore, I used to complain about how he overdribbles and gets nowhere with his dribble. Now my only concern is him getting targeted on defense in the postseason (which can be schemed around a bit).

I think the next evolution for his game is to develop a solid middy or giant killer. That's it. Sometimes when he drives, if he doesn't think he can get all the way to the rim, he starts to look for a kickout, and there are times where I think there is still a shot there to be taken if he had the confidence. But he is well on his way. No doubt in my mind anymore that he could be an 18-19ppg guy as a starter in this league next to JT and DWhite if they chose.

This postseason is gonna be an important one for him in terms of seeing how he holds up defensively. That said, his defense has improved leaps and bounds from where he began. He's smart. He gives effort. He's feisty and he doesn't let people push him over. My confidence in him from that standpoint is growing by the game. Last postseason he was a sporadic contributor whose most notable moments were a couple of halfcourt heaves. I'll be looking for more overall consistency from him this time around.
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

:o
Jrue's not here for PPG.
I think Pritchard is proving to everyone that he could someday replace Jrue in the starting lineup, but if this team is going to win it all this spring they're both going to be very important.

Here's my no-data quick gut-level current rankings for winning it again this June:

Tier 1:
Tatum, maybe KP

Tier 2:
Likely KP, JB, Derrick, Jrue

Tier 3:
Al, Pritchard, maybe Sam

Tier 4:
Maybe Sam, Luke, Torrey Craig:), maybe Queta

Not going to play at all:
Walsh, Scheierman, Tillman
Paul Pierce appreciation society.

Pritchard's secret power is that he's actually way stronger than he looks. He straight up bodies bigger players on his way to the rim.

The guy still can't get his own thread. Still this rehash from 5 years ago when he joined the team. No respect motivates him!

Some new thread suggestion titles:

Payton, The Ultimate Sixth Man
Payton Has Finally Arrived
Payton For President

Anything's better than a five year old Welcome retread from 2020. He deserves it this season!

I funny thing about PP is that if you watched him in college, he's essentially become the same player, except against NBA competition and size. I was doing back flips when we drafted him, but never in my life did I think he would be able to impact the game at this level.

Dudes about to win 6MotY by a country mile, and is one of the best contracts in the league. Happy for PP and the Celtics for not trading him when he asked out, and following through on their commitment.

Danny and Brad, legends.

Last night, Payton Pritchard moved into 50th on the top 50 list of Celtics scorers.

I remember when we drafted him, I cant say I expected PP to be this productive and successful at the NBA level.
Congrats Payton!

via @Marc_DAmico:
Mazzulla says Pritchard should win 6MOTY bc Pritchard impacts the game in multiple ways every night, from scoring on all levels, to rebounding, to passing, to defending, etc. PP's also played as a high-level reserve all season, no matter who's been in/out of the Celtics lineup.
