Because he was protected and the media is everyone with a phone.

How does he not get “cancelled” for that?

Not only that, but it's dangerous. He could have given diseases to players if any of these are true. It's obviously gross as well. But just surprised how no one ever brings the health aspect up when talking about these horrendous acts.

Public opinion on surreptitiously putting another person's toothbrush in your feces has not changed from 20 years ago. The majority would find it offensive 20 years ago and that remains true today. It is beyond the bounds of acceptable hazing. Most of those who don't understand this probably have general issues respecting others' boundaries and I'd guess a fair chunk are bullies who naturally sympathize with other bullies.

Even in the Kobe feuds, I instinctively took his side because Kobe was this stubborn arrogant young player who wanted it all. Turns out he had by far the most professional mindset of the two.
Recently, I came to the conclusion that Shaq is just managing his brand and I would hate to be his team mate, and couldn't be his friend if he did things like that to me. He's just a spoiled human being, centered around getting his own right vs respecting someone else's boundary.
I also don't like much of his work on the TNT show. He doesn't bring much value and just lives from controversy or stereotypes.
It's a bit sad to discover that from your childhood hero . Let's hope that because of age, he got a little smarter and adapted his behavior.

5'10 you vs Shaq wouldn't have ended well for you.

"Inside the NBA" will continue, even though games will no longer be airing on TNT at the end of this season.
The settlement gives TNT Sports, Bleacher Report and House of Highlights a global license for NBA content with no rights fee for the next 11 years.
Even though "Inside the NBA" will be on ESPN and ABC, TNT Sports will continue to produce the show. It will air from Atlanta, except when the show goes on the road.
The quartet of Ernie Johnson Jr., Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Shaquille O'Neal will remain with the show. Barkley signed an extension with Warner Bros. Discovery in August despite the company losing the NBA
"Inside the NBA" will handle pregame, halftime and postgame coverage of the NBA Finals on ABC, conference finals and the NBA Playoffs. During the regular season, it will be part of opening week coverage, as well as Christmas Day, all ABC games after Jan. 1, the final week of the season and other marquee events.

This wasn't OK 20 years ago. It's disgusting.

No it wasn't but context has gotten lost per usual. At that point we were fighting back against dudes getting beaten up and legit terrorized in locker rooms. Team alphas were constantly swinging on teammates, hazing had gotten completely out of control in high schools and colleges to the point dudes were getting hospitalized while the pros were looked at as setting an example, guys were terrified of coming out of the closet because their careers would be ruined, and women were fighting to even be allowed in the locker room.
In that environment Shaqs kind of behavior would have been seen as "playful" and the much better of evils. There were bigger fights to fight and that we've gotten to this fight being the battle ground proves that progress, though slow, has been made.

Pulling your dong out and putting on your buddy's head when he's benching...ok fine. Some pubs in someone's water. Sick...but ok. Yeah dudes threw fists. The naked wrestling...shocking he was doing it with a coach. But yeah...that kinda stuff happens.
Putting someone's mouth guard in your ass? Bro...sorry that's crossing lines.

It's time-stamped, but here:We had a guy on the team my first year in Phoenix, Lou Amundson. He used to ride a bike to practice every day because he lived right across from the arena. Every time he rode his bike, Shaq would take it and hide it. Somewhere in the arena. Every day after practice, Lou was on a scavenger hunt trying to find his bike. This went on for the entire season. Finally, toward the end of the season, Lou had enough. He said, “I’m done with this. Every practice, I spend 45 minutes to an hour trying to find my damn bike.” We tried to warn him. We said, “Yo, Lou, this is Shaq. I’ve heard the stories—doodoo surprise. He used to take a **** in people’s magazines and shoes. This is Shaq you’re dealing with, bro. You might want to chill.”
So he popcorned Shaq's van, and Shaq was like "Oh okay, this is a good prank, but you don't know who the **** you messing with."
The game happened, I come in the locker room, and I see Shaq. Shaq walking around that locker room naked as nothing, real slow and tight. And he pulls a mouthpiece out his ass and puts it in a locker. He told us "Y'all better not say **** either." He takes Lou's toothbrush, he goes to take a ****, and he stirs it in his ****. We like "We ain't into this ****, this is getting out of hand."
The game happens, somehow I'm on the bench, Matt Barnes on the bench, Steve Nash on the bench, Jared Dudley's on the bench. Lou Amundson checks in the game, and he puts the mouthpiece on and everybody on the bench loses it. He comes to the locker room, he takes his mouthpiece off, and someone's like "Hey Lou, don't use your mouthpiece, Shaq put your mouthpiece in his ass." he said "Uh, no he didn't." and put it back in his mouth and goes out there. The bench loses it again.
So Lou gets subbed out the game, and he said "J-Rich, are they **** with me? What happened?" I said "Shaq took your mouthpiece and put it in his ass, bro." and he took it out and he just looked at it. Matt Barnes said to him "Anything in your locker has probably been in Shaq's ass, throw it all away."

That's why Kobe didn't wear mouthpieces
