You mean the 1B that just underwent wrist surgery and is missing the start of the year? For the guy projected to lead their team in WAR in 2025?
Yeah, that was a pretty excellent trade.
You're right. Shatkins is amazing. They keep finding these defensive super stars that have been leading us to championship.

I want them gone for various reasons but that doesn’t mean I’m incapable of calling a good move exactly what it is.

This is better than not having it, but really, it would make everything smoother and better if they just gave the umps an earpiece to determine balls and strikes, so that we didn't need to muck around with 'challenges'. Just get the calls right.

Yeah, that was a pretty excellent trade.
They also have Spencer Horwitz still on the roster in Will Wagner. Those two literally play the same role (DH/1B/2B) on the Jays, except Wagner is likely the better 2B + more versatile defensively, and they project very similarly offensively. Horwitz was expendable. Gimenez making $23M a year towards the end of his contract might not be ideal but from a pure baseball standpoint it was a very good trade.

yeah the trade was a savvy good move. I love watching elite infield defense.

Do you like allotting 7 years at an AAV of 15M+ for a no bat player? Personally, I find it another in a long line of fireable offences.

Re: Official Blue Jays 2025 Spring Training Thread
what would most ppl say is the general consensus that Vladdy has overplayed his hand in terms of value for 2026 and will have to settle for the 380-400~ mill deal bluejays are offering? is it like a 80-20% chance that vladdy has overplayed his value? or more definetively (100%)that Vladdy will receive offers of 550+ no matter how much value in 2025 he produces.
thanks

You’re campaigning here to give 500M to a no glove player who hasn’t even established himself to be an elite hitter.
I prefer Gimenez at his price myself.

I think even if he repeats his 2024 season in 2025 he won’t receive 13/585M. Major league teams don’t value 1B/DH on that level in this era.

Not this one. It was a good move in a vaccum. This FO’s issue is bringing up the next like good teams do.

Re: Official Blue Jays 2025 Spring Training Thread
That Soto deal just has destroyed the market…Its crazy how Freddie Freeman 3 years ago got just a 6 year deal at 27M per, and now Vladdy wants like 45-50M per. I know he will get more years, and therefore a higher total value….. but the price pf a 1B has basically doubled in 3 years.
Tatis extended for like half of what Soto just got. His highest paid season is under 37M, and they would only pay him until he was 35….and Soto jumped up to 51M until he’s 40! And he doesnt pitch like Ohtani, or play a vital position. So now basically any elite bat can ask for 50+.
Vladdy better hope he has another great season.. as 2 good seasons before you hit FA isnt very elite. Especially when you had 7 years in the league. Especially with no elite playoff performances either. If they tried to make him one of the highest paid players in all of baseball, he really should have taken it. Because he definitely hasn’t earned that kind of contract.
Even his MVP season was played half in minor league parks which inflated those numbers. So whomever does sign him is going to be banking on his best days still being ahead of him.

Re: Official Blue Jays 2025 Spring Training Thread
Why do people keep calling Gimenez a no bat type of player? He had more RBIs than anyone not named Vladdy on the Jays last year, and has been to the playoffs twice…. And actually experienced winning multiple playoff games …And multiple series. He has great speed that always plays too. Something else they didnt really have.

Players can ask all they want. Its a limited cash pool AND limited spots in their lineups. Only a handful will be getting these crazy deals. Padres already regret the Tatis deal it has a long way to go
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.
