Franz made mistakes, too.
Both our stars are playing back to form, it’s looked a lot better these past two games.
Mosley took the blame for the timeout mishap (he had multiple times to call it and didn’t get it done).
The last 2 minutes report will be interesting.
This all comes down on Jeff. We have no choice but to lean heavily on Paolo and Franz playmaking. It’s not always going to look amazing, especially with them playing back to form.
Until we fix our roster in the offseason, Mosley has to coach his way out of this. He failed tonight. Everyone has to learn and re-focus for Sunday.

We argued after game 6 or 7 about how ineffective the dual responsibility of running an offense with those two just wont work in the long run. I still hold that belief.
From a "scheme perspective" there isn't much that Mosely can do. But I CAN tell you that what they are doing right now is absolutely not the answer. It IS bad basketball and the more L's pile up maybe they'll realize that.
I turned this game on in the 3rd, because thats how little I desire to watch terrible basketball, and it absolutely didn't disappoint.
It's why I don't really get too caught up in the lack of a timeout at the end of the game.
If they call a timeout, what are they drawing up anyway? A 4th failed attempt in the final 4 minutes to get Morant switched onto Paolo?
It would have been an isolation situation against a set defense.
Well yes..
Because they have absolutely nothing else and Mosely doesn't actually "run" anything when they aren't coming out of a timeout regardless.
Iso Paolo or Franz and kick out on a collapsing defense. Thats the offense 100% of the time against a set defense when the ball isn't coming off the glass. Not sure how much more transparent it could possibly get.
He's 22 and will get better.VFX wrote:eyriq wrote:I agree, these Paolo takes will age like milkAdamTheGreek wrote:The Paolo overreactions make this board unbearable. His third quarter was the reason we should’ve closed them out.

Is his game going to change significantly?
Is he going to develop out of how he plays?
I don’t think these are hot takes.
Hes massively inefficient in whatever you want to call this “system”. Now, if they change the system to make him more efficient, then were the takes really that off?

I mean our defensive rating was 103.5. That's good.byeganyo wrote:eyriq wrote:The defense was very good

Next move would probably be looking for rim defending C who can shoot 3s to open up some driving lines.
Brook Lopez one year contract? Sign & trade for Isaac?
But yea, you need to test what you have in Paolo and Franz to go from there. This "point forward" nonsense was joke from start.

That doesn’t answer the question.
There is a disconnect here with expectations amongst fans. Yes, players get better. Better at things they already do well. More efficient at things they already do.
Paolo isn’t efficient right now in this system attempting to do things he simply can’t, or doesn’t, do well at all. These are things that were discussed well before he was even in Orlando.
These issue isn’t Paolo getting slightly better year over year doing things he shouldn’t even be tasked with.
The issue is him doing what he does best more efficiently.

He'll make better decisions, make better passes, shoot more efficiently, play better defense, etc. He'll get better at every basketball action.

We aren’t talking about the same thing.
You are talking about players getting slightly better by being around the game year over year.
I’m talking about Paolo’s role and what he should be focusing on that equates to winning basketball within the framework of a team.

Need a team that can do what you’re referring to. We don’t have that kind of team.

Right.
But that’s begs the question of whether or not Paolo is a “star” if he needs a very specific set of players around him in order to be successful.
I think his role is fine and equates to winning.VFX wrote:eyriq wrote:VFX wrote:

You realize the last 12 seasons have been more like this season than last season right lol? I mean come on, last season was the anomaly if you care to be honest with yourself and everyone else.

+12, +13 win seasons with him in the top 3 in minutes. Stalled progression with him outside the top 3 in minutes this season due to injury.VFX wrote:eyriq wrote:I think his role is fine and equates to winning.VFX wrote:

The numbers and record state otherwise.
