Dude, I saw what you saw but I also saw that he thought he was PG when his best path was Klay or, even better, Rip Hamilton. He couldn't be a hub but he could have been a finisher. I thought he was on the cusp of figuring that out but then he started digging the other way and let the likes of Quentin Grimes (who totally earned it) come in and take his spot.

By the time he figured some things out with the Lakers it was too late to reach his original potential.

When he first started getting run I thought he could be better than RJ if he took to some coaching. For a quick minute I thought we really had something.

Well my ceiling for Cam was much higher, like a top 5 player, a franchise superstar. But I guess you all knew it by now...

He could effortlessly open up defenses almost without trying/ like 2nd nature... he could shoot 3s, finish in the paint with 2-3 guys on him (0:40, 0:53, and 1:03), he had instinct to freeze Ja/ defenders on a break and go on a different direction (1:12 and 1:23), he had speed, he could dribble (HE COULD NOT DRIBBLE?? WRONG!!), he had euro step, he had a great burst of speed, he seemingly had counters to ANY defense and already moved 1-2 steps ahead. Going full speed and with the handle to freeze opponents with hesi (1:52) was unstoppable. Oh, and he knocked down his free throws too. To me, he's the offensive complete total package (again with us, he averaged 22+ppg on 58 FG% in games where he took at least 10 FGA).

But I think Cam's main problem, just like underachievers' main problem is they seek validation too low. What I mean is, back to the Grizz game, everyone in that game (RJ, JB, Randle) was struggling and couldn't buy a basket, and Cam happened to knock down his first 2 3s. He needs to feel like he's needed... but to a point, and when he's achieved that in 1 small game, he felt SATISFIED/ VALIDATED that he's proven his worth, and he stepped his foot off the gas, and stopped being hungry. Of course, with real superstars, their validation level is MUCH MUCH HIGHER, if they seek validation AT ALL. I think the difference is the greats seek validation from within/ themselves, while the underachievers seek validation externally.

It's really a mental/ validation issue thing with Cam/ other underachievers. If he just had JB or even RJ's will to keep going, I had/ still have no doubt he could be one of the BEST players today (if he could just play every game with the fire, intensity and focus he did vs the Grizz, regardless if he scores 5, 22, or 50, he would be an all star today imo).

But I've moved on from Cam, don't think he'll ever solve the validation puzzle. But few do, it's deeply ingrained with the subconscious, tough to figure out.

I should have added that he was solid in transition.

Even if you watch the video of his best games like that one, all of his buckets there were transition/head of steam buckets or catch and shoots. No isos. This is why I say he's more Klay than PG. Once you plonk a defender up on him he has a hard time getting that first dribble off that the superstars do. When teams adjusted to him and he was no longer getting the touches, like you said, he kind of withered and then the DNPs really took him down. I attended Knicks/Blazers live after we traded him and Chauncey was going into conniptions with him because he was just standing around. Stay active! I've seen him make an impact on both ends when he does.
