Was KPJ so bad on the Clippers that they traded him for less than a ham sandwich?

I asked shortly after we got KPJ why his price was so low and no one seemed to know. I think the Clippers did him a solid since they preferred bench ball handling from newly acquired Ben Simmons (who has a home in LA) and Bogdan and Porter had other interest last summer in free agency before he chose LAC. There is an outside shot the league is still investigting him that we don't know about, similar to how we fans didn't know we were going to need depth (Kuzma) with an upcoming Bobby suspension. But yeah, his price was much lower than expected and was an immediate win when the trade was made.

It appears they were doing him a solid because he was about to lose all his minutes.

yeah, it makes perfect sense why they would want to trade him. but the value received is still kind of baffling to me. maybe Marjon has more value than we assume. that, or there just weren't many teams who wanted to gamble with their team culture to get a guy who was having a really bad year from an efficiency standpoint. it's a very small sample, but he's been pretty damn efficient with us. for the most part, he's played within himself.

he just needs to get his confidence back from 3. if we can get him to re sign and get him working with coaches on a clearly defined role, the sky is really the limit for him. however small the chance is, there is a chance that he becomes a very good player for us long term. that's not nothing.

and by the way... to no one in particular: if you are someone who was upset about AJ Johnson getting traded, just pretend we got Porter back in that deal.

Don't forget that he has a player option that they felt he was going to opt in to and they didn't want to pay him especially with the way he was playing. So it made sense that they would trade him for a player that will be off the books after this year.

Rollins still kinda sucks, putting up decent numbers against the worst team in the NBA means nothing. He shouldn't be in the playoff rotation. I'd still give him a contract because he'll be better next year and he's a serviceable 15 mpg player behind Dame, and is cheap.

Giannis just doesnt seem capable to sustain long regular season anymore and yet he wants to be aviable for regular season awards. Not a good combination and this is like 99% of my wories right now. I cant even think about Kuzma, Porter, Sims, or anything else because all of that is not important if Giannis......**** it, I admire all of you who are able to talk about other things

id even go so far as to take that even out further. if the biggest conversation on the board SHOULD BE.... his availability game to game or 16 games in the playoffs.... then at what point does the discussion become like what we just went thru with khris with even larger ramification.

and is dame, with his history, at his age.... even worse?

at what point does the discussion turn with whether we reset now for maximum compensation for these guys, or wait for them to demand out on his their own timetables... or commit to another supermax extension hoping they sign it.

each scenario effects this franchise so dynamically both in short term and long term outcomes and its getting to the point to me i cant separate them. like for example.... is dallas better immediately if doncic goes out and davis is in? assuming their health is comparable? is doncic a longterm risk that a supermax at age 26.... let alone 32 or 36 like giannis and dame just is a bad investment? a ridiculous investment?

i watch the team last night with for all intents and purposes...no dame or giannis.... and i wonder if we had a total reset with anything and everything those two could bring back..... how much difference would it make this year? let alone down the road?

neither of these guys can get right and stay right. like at all....at what point do supermax contracts just become idiotic when other teams, actually competing..... can offer max trade compensation with just young viable dudes who can play 70+ games a year somewhat consistently and make shots in the new run and gun era....bring back a centerpiece in that trade that could get a fan base excited with a slew of extra pieces?

Yea the flashes like this are great but he's had some dog water games too.

He is also young af playing for the first time this year how many starts does he have like 5 maybe. All bucks fans should be ecstatic with the bucks young talent. Keep playing the young kids get them ready for playoffs where we might need them.

The Old Core, even if blinking off & on reliably (&annoyingly!), is solid enough. The more burn the new new 3 (Sims KpJ Kuz) gets with the old new 3 (Trent, Prince, Rollins) --- AND the Old Core --- the more letting them all simmer together in wildly variable lineups will pay off in chemistry.

Gotta hand it to Doc for putting Kuz out there for loooong minutes to work it out on the court. Never mind anything else. He moved the ball, and that's a massive upgrade. Suddenly EVERYBODY was moving the ball, and if that doesn't entertain you what are we even doing. Did you see the overall defensive rebounding numbers the other day?

He very much looks for his own offence which I suppose is fine because it's what that second unit needs. The offence overall with him on the floor has not been very good though.

Kawhi would only sign with LAC if they traded for PG which gave OKC a ton of leverage in the trade because LAC was viewing it as the cost to get Kawhi and PG. So they got SGA and a bunch of picks. Actively shopping superstars rarely gets you great value.

I've been pleasantly surprised by Sims. My expectations were kind of low, he's not going to light up the scoreboard I don't think but he's definitely playable. Hopefully we've got our backup center of the future.

You’re probably right. I was going off what the broadcasters were saying during the last game but they probably have their math wrong.

3 games should get them to the buyout playoff eligible deadline, so they planned out Rollins games pretty well. Lets them make the call on him next week.
