They're 16 games under .500 and still just 1.5 games out from the play-in. Crazy how little it might take for whatever team makes the 10th seed.

NYK are certainly good but they are still a trade away from being an actual contender.

That OG trade might be one of those rare lose lose trades lol.
OG is a monster defensively in isolation but he can’t prop up a team’s defence by himself. Only centers can do that.

I think a full season with Mitch Robinson would yield better defensive results but I’m surprised adding Bridges on the perimeter hasn’t yielded a better defensive rating.

OG and Mikal both have been disappointments on defence.
Both are putting up their worst defensive advanced numbers of their career.

That hasn't historically been true, though it does take more extreme deviation in ability from other positions to do it.
Jason Kidd on the Nets is a good counterexample. Kawhi post-Duncan is another good one. Lebron has been another good example, obviously earlier in his career when he was still playing at a high level on the defensive end. The Bad Boy Pistons weren't high-end defenses because of classical center play, nor were the Jordan-era Bulls. The Warriors were the best defense in the league with Steph a few times orbiting Draymond and team scheme without any real major C play.
It's easier for a center to anchor a defense, but that isn't the same thing.

Those guys are so much better than OG at defense though and those times were different times.

Yes, they are better than OG, but they would also still be quite be capable of anchoring a defense in today's game.

we won the og trade but we won't see the full result until next year. both barrett and quickley are better players than they were with the knicks but wont' be in their prime until next year.

It's the KAT problem combined with the Brunson problem.
There was always going to be a clear tradeoff when the trade was made. We've seen it throughout KAT's career. You can work with one heavy liability in Brunson, but adding two, one in a very important position, is really hard to overcome.
Their identity did a 180 flip overnight with that trade.
The solution to the KAT problem (and the Rockets with Sengun, and the Kings with Sabonis if they ever want to be serious on D) is to move them out of the pivot and hide them. That comes with it's own costs, though.

OG is an elite man defender. He is not an elite team defender. So I agree with the term "anchor" in this context. Og doesn't anchor a team's defense like say Rasheed Wallace or Charles Oakley. He's just an assignment guy. Not a good help guy. His rebound numbers are atrocious.
I think Barnes has the potential to be an overall better defensive player than OG because of that anchor role. Plus....OG can't dribble a basketball while his feet are in a walking or running motion. Which is limiting for a "basketball player".

They have nothing left to trade. That Bridges trade was particularly brutal.

They need a 'Doncic to Lakers' type of trade. Like Giannis for Bridges or something.

I see KAT hasn't been mean mugging the last couple of games and calling fans "bitch ass" lol. Clown.
At least we can put the notion to rest that the Knicks could advance to the Finals. Not only are they 0-7 against the Celtics, Cavs, and OKC, they have been thoroughly dismantled in all of those losses. So much for OG and Mikal shutting everyone down. They have the 20th ranked D in the league. Really good team that will be in the top 4 in the conference for a couple of more years, but do not have enough to be taken seriously, and no longer have any obvious avenue to improve. Their impatience led to that Bridges trade. Fine player, but paid way too much.
