By 2031, Bridges trade might turn into infamous Brooklyn/Boston trade.

Surely you could have gotten Kessler for 2 FRPs in the offseason as a Hartenstein replacement and you would have had enough picks left to get a 3-and D Wing.
i was browsing reddit....it's really unfortunate.....
i guess Leon Rose did not foresee the market becoming such a buyer's market
5 unprotected FRPs....when Warriors got Butler for Wiggins, Dennis Schroeder and one protected FRP
i mean, Knicks could had gotten Butler for a lot less, maybe like 2 unprotected FRPs
Butler makes $48M+. Who would you have sent out to match salaries?
ok i don't know then.....either way, the trade was brutal for knicks

Yeah, they definitely overpaid for the role Mikal plays on the Knicks but I don't think people account for Bogey being a negative contract at the time of the trade. The Nets just bought him out and he won't play a single game this season. No one was going to take him from the Knicks for free.
The majority of the value sent out was for Mikal but some of that value was to take on the $23M+ we sent out that was not useful to the Nets.

that's true....
it's just amazing how disciplined Leon rose was, then did an "all-in" move

I can't really defend Mikal anymore but I still believe that Thibs isn't maximizing his skill set properly and it's adding to the issues. But he just has not been worth the cost at this point, and that kills me to say it because I love Mikal. But I expected much more.

Hiding behind "it's the coach" is weak.
Mikal is just corny and weak. Worst Knick trade in ages. Knicks went all in for a guy who behaves like a 5th option. Tragic.

Pretty much where I'm at tbh. SOOO many folks on here wanted Mikal over Spida but I guarantee Spida would not have disappeared like Mikal has and yet folk want to argue about defense. SMH
I don't know why Mikal changed his shot but Lord knows... it's more broke now than it's ever been. Dude should spend the offseason on going back

It is so weird to have a professional athlete regress on his shooting so much. A set point on three pointer one foot above and behind his head....I mean that **** is just crazy. No one, really no one can shoot consistantly like that.

I mean someone (coaches) would have to step in and tell Mikal that there is no human on this planet that could ever shoot consistantly with this type of set point or shooting motion. It is baffling how one can work the entire summer on such a motion. This is why I believe there may be some mental aspect involved in it. I can't explain it otherwise.

Re: Mikal's Broke then Fixed Then Broke Jump Shot
I'm still trying to figure out what the plan was when they traded for Mikal. OG was considered the best 3 and D guy available and no one would have ever considered trading almost the entire stash of picks for him. Why trade all those picks just to attempt to turn Mikal back into a 3 and D guy with a slightly elevated role with the 2nd unit? If this was the asking price for Mikal that could have pivoted to another player(s) for that limited role or waited for the Nets to come down on the price.
I know they had to do something with Bogey's dead salary and the new CBA makes things more difficult but I feel like they should have at least waited to see if they could retain iHart before going all in Mikal. Those picks could have been used to fill the depth and multiple holes in the roster. I wonder if they ever thought Mikal could be their 2nd option in the offense. I just can't see any reason to spend all that draft capital to make him a high end role player if KAT, Randle or someone else were always going to be the 2nd option.
I don't think Thibs is making the best use of Mikal and Mikal has to work the kinks out of his shot but he is basically shooting well from all over the court except the above the break 3 while still being one of the team's best defenders. Improving his defense and his above the break 3 still wouldn't make him worth what was given up for him for the limited role available.
He is behind Brunson, KAT and Payne for shot attempts while on the court and behind Brunson, Hart, KAT, Payne, and McBride for ball handling responsibility. He is essentially a healthier more skilled but lesser version of OG in his current role. Was this their vision when they made the trade?

Buzz, Tom has not used Bridges to his strengths. He should be the focal point with the 2nd unit moving, catching and pulling up for mid range shots, on top of being used for off ball actions that result in cut and catch looks.
I'm not bailing him out here. His defense has been trash, he isn't spacing the floor, and he should be held accountable. He has disappointed this team and fanbase.
It's just that I don't see much of a role for him offensively outside of just standing around watching JB and KAT.
Frankly Tom's offense sucks and it's the overall talent of the team that has elevated the Knick to being one of the best offensive clubs in the league despite his dinosaur methodology. It's not like this offense is complex half the time everyone is just standing around.
Just my 2 cents. I'm frustrated right now because this team has too much talent for us to be having this conversation.

Fair to say he's been a disappointment on both ends, didn't get the Nova teammate boost we all expected. The Nova thing was fun to imagine but maybe it was a *bridge* too far. Still have hope that the right coach can unlock this team.

Well, Spida is an all star level talent. I said from day 1 that Mikal is gonna have nights where he looks like an all star, and nights where he looks like a 15ppg role player. But his defense and spacing ability should be constants, and they are not, and that's what has me absolutely pissed with him.

I knew when the trade happened that it was definitely on the overpayment side of things, but I figured with the Nova chemistry and Bridges 3 and D ability that he'd ultimately be worth the trade. Right now, it feels like an overpayment without much reward, minus the Spurs and recent Hawks game.
His defense and ability to space the floor should be consistent, but they haven't been, and I think that's been the most shocking thing I've seen with him.

That's my main concern. I knew Mikal wouldn't have all-star games consistently every game, but I assumed his defense and spacing ability would be consistent for the most part, and for some reason, it hasn't been. This looks like a different Mikal Bridges than the one from his Phoenix days.

Yeah. I had no expectations of him being Mikal from his first half season in BKN. But I expected some consistency in the two areas where he historically excels.
I dunno man. It's aggravating because he should at least hit his open looks and have active hands in the passing lanes.
He's also getting crushed on screens.

I'll always have my fantasy scenario where the Knicks dumped Randle and Robinson contracts on Detroit for draft compensation to clear enough salary under the cap to make a more competitive to iHart but even if they couldn't bring iHart I don't know why they rushed to sign Mikal without seeing what holes needed to be filled.
They went all in on Mikal like he was the final piece. Now I feel like they are left hoping Mitch or a coaching change can solve everything.
